- Chapter 20 - Why did she have to die, Sasahara-kun?
The next day, the weather became somewhat cloudy in the morning.
Naoya let out a sigh as he was waiting for Koyuki at the ticket gate.
“I wonder if you’re okay, Shirogane-san.”
He was worried about her after everything that had happened yesterday. Was it her declaration to become more honest? The unnecessary scheming of the Shirogane Fan Club? Those things didn’t matter at all, there was a different reason.
Eventually, the train arrived and people poured out of the gate. After the crowd settled down, Naoya saw the conspicuous silver haired girl tottering towards him.
He raised his hand and called out to her.
“Oh, Shirogane-san. Good morning.”
“Ah…”
Koyuki, who had been looking down, suddenly looked up. There was a hint of despair in her expression, but she quickly put on a cool smile.
“Good morning… Sasahara-kun.”
“Yeah.”
Naoya blinked in surprise at her ordinary response. He had expected her to say something cute like “Oh, you’re so eager to see me again today. You’re like a dog waiting for its owner.”
‘She didn’t become more honest like she declared… I guess she’s just not feeling well,’ Naoya thought to himself.
He asked her in a small voice, “Did you read what I gave you yesterday?”
At that moment, Koyuki’s face twisted and big tears began to well up in her eyes.
“Ugh… Sasahara-kun…!”
“Huh…?!”
Naoya was taken aback as Koyuki threw herself into his chest, while crying.
He couldn’t help but want to hold her tightly, as she smelled nice, was warm, and soft. But this was a train station early in the morning.
“What’s going on? A lover’s quarrel so early in the morning?”
“Youth is so good…”
“Guh…!”
The warm gazes of the salarymen pierced him, so Naoya gently put his hand on Koyuki’s shoulder and gently separated their bodies. He was reluctant, but there was nothing he could do.
“Um, Shirogane-san… let’s calm down, okay?”
“But… But… It’s impossible to calm down with this…!”
He handed her a handkerchief and Koyuki wiped away her tears as she rummaged through her bag. She pulled out a novel that Naoya had given her yesterday.
“Why, why did Fran-chan have to die at the end…! This is unacceptable…!”
“Oh… I had a feeling it would end up like this…” With no other choice, Naoya looked up at the sky.
It all started yesterday. On the way home together, Koyuki said she wanted to stop by the bookstore. Since Naoya had something he wanted to buy as well, he readily agreed, and they went to a large bookstore near the station. However, a small disagreement arose there.
“…That’s what Sasahara-kun wanted to buy?”
“Yeah, what’s wrong with that?”
Looking at the book Naoya held, Koyuki frowned. It was a new light novel, with colorful-haired girls wielding unusual weapons that didn’t seem to match their petite bodies on the cover. The title was “To the End of Another World.” The genre was Isekai fantasy.
Koyuki stared intently at the cover.
“My sister reads this kind of thing a lot… But it has, um, erotic illustrations and 18+ content, right…?”
“Well, yeah, that kind of thing does exist, but…”
“Uuu… It can’t be helped, can it…? After all, you’re a boy, right?”
Koyuki nodded heavily, as if with a heavy heart.
She was misunderstanding things greatly.
So Naoya hurriedly began to explain.
“This isn’t that erotic, and the story is actually pretty interesting. It’s even been adapted into a manga and is quite popular now.”
“But it’s still erotic, isn’t it…?”
“Well, yeah… There are some illustrations with a lot of skin sometimes…”
It’s called fan service.
With a doubtful look, Koyuki was about to say something else, so Naoya decided to take his last resort. He took out the first volume of the series, which had been left in his bag, and thrust it at her.
“Just try it out for yourself. Here, I’ll lend you the first volume. Even if it’s an erotic story, you can stop reading it right there, okay?”
“…Alright, but if it is erotic, I’m stopping right there.”
“That’s fine. Just try it out for now.”
Koyuki still looked suspicious, but she timidly took the book from him.
Naoya breathed a sigh of relief.
By the way, I wish she wouldn’t keep saying “erotic” over and over…
‘Oh, but the first volume has quite a few tear-jerking moments… I hope Shirogane-san will be okay…’
With such a vague concern in his mind, they parted ways.
And now, it was the morning of the next day after they parted ways.
“Un… It was interesting, and there were erotic pictures too, but… Why did Fran-chan have to die…?”
“Aww… You’re so cute and easy to understand when you cry, Koyuki.”
Naoya consoled the crying Koyuki and stared off into the distance with a vacant look.
By the way, Fran-chan, whose death she was regretting right now, was later discovered to be alive, but… it’s human nature not to give spoilers.
