- Until the Middle-Aged Man Who Became Young Becomes a Harem Master in Another World
- Chapter 7: Is It a Love Escape?
The carriage is certainly not a comfortable ride as it sometimes shakes violently with a clatter.
Having not slept a wink last night, Kojirou was suddenly overcome by drowsiness. His eyes became bleary, his head felt fuzzy, and gradually he began to lose consciousness.
Kojirou gradually leans against Midori. Since he is unconscious, a considerable weight falls on Midori, but she smiles and accepts Kojirou.
For the past week, Kojirou has only been wiping his body with water and hasn’t taken a bath. Even so, he shouldn’t smell like an old man… Sniff sniff, Midori was enjoying Kojirou’s scent up close.
For some reason, she likes older men. She doesn’t know why. Before she realizes it, she’s following older men with her eyes.
It’s not just anyone. She prefers someone who has a sense of cleanliness and a hint of adult charm.
Then, does Kojirou meet those conditions?
The answer is “no.”
Putting aside the sense of cleanliness, it’s hard to believe that Kojirou has any adult charm. Yet, Midori is still drawn to Kojirou. Even though he is completely different from her type, for some reason, he catches her attention. Midori herself doesn’t quite understand it either. However, there is something about Kojirou that piques her interest.
The horse neighed, and the carriage came to a sudden stop. Several passengers were thrown off and piled on top of each other. Among them was Kojirou. Since he was sleeping, he couldn’t brace himself, and the world turned upside down.
“Ouch… What kind of situation is this?”
Forced awake by the pain, Kojirou got up while apologizing to the person he had pinned down.
“What’s with the sudden change?”
Holding onto a pillar to withstand it, Midori was trying to grasp the situation and understand what had happened.
“And, it’s a thief!”
It seems that thieves have appeared as they are not uncommon in this country. There’s a saying that if you throw a stone, you’ll hit a thief. There are so many thieves in this country that such a saying exists.
Three figures jumped down from the roof of the stagecoach. They are the guards protecting this stagecoach.
They are the people hired by the stagecoach driver to protect the stagecoach from bandits and monsters.
A stagecoach without guards is not a stagecoach. It’s like carrying raw meat into a cage of wild beasts. Travel is so dangerous that it’s said this way in this country…
One guard remains on the roof. That guard cast a spell. A fiery spear, blazing red, flies towards the thief.
There are about ten thieves, they suppose. It seems that none of them can use magic in combat.
If they can use magic, they can get a decent job. There’s no need to go out of their way to become a thief.
And they know that once they are hit by the magic, it’s all over.
The pay for guarding the station carriage isn’t that high. If they’re a magician, there are plenty of other jobs available.
Therefore, it seems the thieves were quite flustered, as they never expected a wizard to be among the guards.
“The thief has escaped!”
One of the passengers watching the battle shouted with a look of joy.
The guards must have been quite skilled. They didn’t let the thieves get anywhere near.
Four thieves were killed, and two were injured. Several others escaped.
The two injured seem to have wounds severe enough that they cannot walk alone. The guards mercilessly killed the two. They showed no mercy to the begging thieves.
In the first place, the stagecoach is already full with just the passengers, the driver, and the guard.
The guards riding on the roof serve as a lookout, but it’s also because there’s no space inside the vehicle.
In other words, they can’t afford to take on any more people. A thief who can’t walk is nothing but a burden.
Also, there are items for healing called potions, but they are quite expensive. It would be quicker to just kill the thief than to spend money on them.
“That’s combat…”
“Wasn’t it a real exchange of lives…”
The smell of blood reaches even the stagecoach.
Kojirou and Midori were about to feel nauseous from the smell, but if they vomited, they would lose too much from each other.
Especially as a young maiden, Midori does not want to show such a sight in front of others, especially in front of Kojirou.
Without throwing up, Kojirou and Midori resumed their journey and entered the town before evening.
It’s not yet the Count Shaido Territory, but they should stay in this town for two nights and then head to the Count Shaido Territory by stagecoach.
“Wow, that seems like a pretty nice inn. That old coachman has good taste.”
The two of them entered the inn they heard about from the stagecoach driver.
“Are you staying overnight?”
The innkeeper responds to the two with a standard phrase.
“Yes. There are two of us, but can we stay for two nights?”
“Would you like a room with a double bed?”
“No, the lid―――”
“That’s fine.”
“Huh?”
“What? You don’t want to share a room with me?”
“Ah, eh, i, u, eh, o…?”
Kojirou is just flustered and can’t respond properly. In other words, Midori’s claim was accepted, and they ended up in a room with a double bed.
(Is she serious? I mean, I hate to say it myself, but I’m just a dull old man!?)
He now looks about twenty-two years old. Standing in front of the double bed, Kojirou was left in a daze.
