- Chapter 1: Middle-Aged Man Factory Worker
The blinding white that covered his vision began to clear. At the same time, the discomfort that had been twisting around Kojirou’s body also disappeared.
Once visibility was secured, he found himself standing inside a building resembling a stone temple. To an observer, it might have appeared to be an ethereal temple, but to Kojirou, it looked like a castle of a hundred demons. Something seemed to be embedded in the walls, and it looked as if it was writhing.
“Ugh…”
The horror was so overwhelming that Kojirou vomited on the spot. He felt worse than a hangover.
“Hey, are you okay?”
“Y-yeah… I’m fine… ugh.”
“That’s not okay at all. Seriously.”
One of the high school girls he passed earlier rubbed Kojirou’s back. Kojirou was surprised that the most flamboyant and gal-like girl among the four was the kindest, but he felt too unwell to even say thank you.
“E-excuse me. I’m fine now.”
Finally calmed down, Kojirou bowed his head to the high school gal.
“Are you really okay? You still look pale.”
He slowly stands up, takes a deep breath, and exhales. Kojirou scrunches his face at the sour smell as well as the nearby high school gal.
They looked at each other and both let out a chuckle.
“Welcome, heroes!”
When the old man raised his voice, Kojirou felt as if he was being pulled back to reality.
There are about fifty armored people around and five others in robes like this old man. Among them, the one wearing the most elaborately designed robe is the old man known as Master Isaac.
“What the hell are you guys!?”
It’s understandable that the high school girl who was rubbing Kojirou’s back would be questioned, but aside from Kojirou, who was suffering from nausea, the other three high school students just stood there in a daze. This alone shows the strong character of this high school girl.
“Hey, Midori. These guys are dangerous, so don’t provoke them too much.”
There were two male high school students, but when the slender boy finally spoke, instead of protecting the female students, he was more concerned about his own safety.
Kojirou is just fidgeting, unsure of what to do.
“The heroes were summoned from another world to unify this continent! We expect great efforts from you!”
Master Isaac shouted like a fanatic, spitting as he spoke. The content of his speech was about unifying the continent by force, and it was so true to his desires that Kojirou couldn’t help but worry if he was mentally stable, more than being astonished.
Today, there was unusually no overtime, and he――Satou Kojirou――stopped by the convenience store on his way home as usual. It had become his routine to buy pudding for himself and his parents.
Previously, Kojirou was a recluse. His parents watched over him with warm eyes and patiently guided him so that he could reintegrate into society.
He wonders if it was around the time he turned thirty that he started to truly appreciate his parents.
The siblings each had an older brother and sister, and these two also cared for Kojirou.
His brother has been stationed overseas for two years, and he hasn’t seen his face, but his sister comes to visit once a month. Even though both of them are married and have families, they still call and email him quite frequently. The content of their messages is usually about mundane daily life, but perhaps it was these that brought Kojirou back to his daily routine.
At first, Kojirou found it annoying, but gradually he started looking forward to reading those emails.
Now, Kojirou truly feels grateful to have a family.
As he stepped out of the convenience store with a plastic bag in hand, he passed by a group of four high school students.
The four people, two men, and two women, are smiling and looking cheerful, clearly enjoying the youth that Kojirou never had.
Having walked in the spotlight, they must have lived a life without worries, shining brightly. Kojirou watched the four of them off with a dazed expression.
Until now, Kojirou had never done anything like that, but for some reason, it caught his attention. Little did he know that it would become a turning point that would greatly influence his life.
Just as Kojirou was about to start walking after seeing off the four, the surroundings turned completely white. He felt a sense of floating and an indescribable sense of weakness washed over him.
He heard the students’ screams, but Kojirou was desperately enduring the uncomfortable sensation of being manipulated inside his body.
