“Hello, Nee-san. I’ve been waiting for you.”
I was called by Alan to a deserted park in the middle of the night. Although I blocked almost all of the ways to contact me such as phone calls and LIME, it seems that he went out of his way to borrow someone else’s smartphone to make a call.
He said that if I didn’t come, he would tell Kaito everything about what I had done, along with proof. I didn’t think there was any evidence left, but I decided to accept Alan’s invitation anyway.
Also, I came here after being woken up by a phone call while I was sleeping, so it goes without saying that I’m in a really bad mood.
“…So what do you want by calling me to a place like this?”
“Don’t be so wary. I just want to talk to Nee-san.”
“If you just wanted to talk to me, you could have just called me earlier.”
The fact that he went out of his way to summon me here must mean he had some kind of goal in mind. But for now, I had no idea what Alan’s goal was.
“I really just want to talk to you, Nee-san… I’ll ask you the same thing as last time, but are you really happy to get your hands on Kaito using such a despicable method? I don’t think it’s right to destroy his mind by making me take away the girl he likes or cares about.”
“Of course I’m happy. No matter how many times you ask, my answer won’t change.”
When I answered, Alan looked as if he was convinced of his victory. I wondered why he had that expression on his face, but I soon came to know the answer.
“I told you so, Kaito. It was all just like I said.”
Alan yelled to a nearby bench. It was too dark to see very well, but upon closer inspection, there was a black cloth draped over the bench, revealing a humanoid shape.
“N-No way!?”
“Yes way.”
Having finished his sentence, Alan peeled off the black cloth in one fell swoop. Then I saw Kaito-kun wearing a blindfold and gag on top of his arms and legs tied up with a cohesive band.
“…Alan, what did you do to Kaito-kun?”
“I only tied him up after I called him and immobilized him with a stun gun.”
As I glared angrily at Alan, he wore an expression of composure. Honestly, I hadn’t expected him to go this far. Apparently, Alan’s goal was to expose the truth from my mouth in front of Kaito.
“Now that Kaito knows Nee-san’s true nature, their relationship is completely over.”
Alan grinned as he removed Kaito’s blindfold and gag, but he hadn’t realized he’d made a huge misunderstanding.
“…Why do you look so happy, Kaito?!”
Alan looked bewildered upon seeing Kaito’s expression. He must have thought Kaito’s face would contort in pain.
“That’s because I’m happy to know that she truly loves me.”
“Wh-What in the world are you saying…? It’s all her fault that you’ve been suffering all this time, you know?”
“That just goes to show how much she loves me, doesn’t it? All the pain I’ve been through up until now has been a trial for me and Ellen to be united. I understand, so you wanted me that badly. Don’t worry, I’m yours now, in body and heart, and it’ll always be like that from now on. I’m really sorry I couldn’t realize how you felt for so long, but from now on, we’ll be together until the day we die.”
Kaito-kun was mumbling something like that with a blissful expression on his face. For him, who was now sickly in love with a human named Kisaragi Ellen, everything I’d done up until now had come to be recognized as an act out of love.
In other words, Alan’s misunderstanding was that he’d completely misjudged Kaito’s broken condition.
It would’ve been one thing if it had been before it broke, but revealing everything I’d done to Kaito-kun, who’s completely broken, wasn’t going to give Alan the reaction he’d hoped for. Realizing that it was too late for everything, Alan’s expression turned to one of despair and hopelessness.
“Too bad. No one can tear Kaito-kun and me apart anymore.”
I said to Alan as I undid Kaito’s cohesion band. He had assaulted Kaito-kun and even restrained him, so this was the end of him.
Having finished removing the band, I took my smartphone out of my bag to report Alan’s misdeeds to the police. But taking my eyes off him, albeit for a moment, was a huge mistake.
“This wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for Nee-san!”
In a fit of rage, Alan pulled a folding knife out of his pocket and attacked me. The suddenness of it all made me freeze, and I couldn’t move.
Apparently, Alan was aiming for my heart. As I began to see the knife’s tip gradually approaching in slow motion, my memories began to come back to me like a revolving lantern.
I don’t want to die yet, but maybe I’m done for. All I can do now is close my eyes and wait for the time to come.
But no matter how much time passed, that time never came. When I timidly opened my eyes, I saw Kaito-kun standing over me.
“I said so, didn’t I? That I will protect Ellen no matter what.”
Kaito-kun said that, but there was the knife deeply stabbed in his back, and the blood was bleeding profusely from the wound.
Kaito-kun was in life-threatening condition.
