The Reincarnated Minister's Second Daughter Wants To Live A Happy Life - Chapter 9
Chapter 9
After eating lunch, Camille excitedly pulled the two men to go to the park. Nathan and Marco were much willing to oblige her. It seems that this one week, Camille was able to tame two boys – two fresh meats! 1‘Fresh meats’ = young guys/boys/men who are good-looking/handsome
“I will be back later, Daisy! See you!”
“Take care on your way. Don’t run.”
“Okay! Let’s go, let’s go!”
Camille dragged the two guys and ran away. Daisy, Judy, and Caspian were left behind. They looked at each other, engulfed in an awkward atmosphere. They were people who were neither close nor hated each other. They were just classmates.
Judy cleared her throat and alternately looked between Daisy and Caspian.
“Ahem… I will go first. Uh… see you later.”
“Ah… okay. See you later, too.”
Daisy nodded her head and said goodbye to her with a smile. Caspian only shook his head and continued staring at Daisy. Seeing this, Judy’s imagination runs wild.
‘Does classmate Caspian like Daisy? But Daisy doesn’t seem to like him.’
Unbeknownst to the two people, a hundred-chapter novel was already written in Judy’s imagination as she walked away from them.
Left behind, Daisy looked at the guy beside her. She didn’t know why she stayed after Judy left. What was stranger about this was Caspian also remained, as if he was waiting for her to go.
Daisy pursed her lips and lightly smiled. She said goodbye and started walking slowly away from him. She was at a loss when she was left behind with him.
Caspian looked at Daisy’s back before going in the opposite direction. He decided to go to the library to look for some materials he needed for his assignment.
The library was filled with books, old and new. There were also computers on the far side, which students could use for their research. It was connected to the school’s internet connection, so they won’t have any problem with the internet.
Caspian sat in front of one of the computers and set his things above the table. He went to retrieve some books about history. Looking at the section on history, one bok caught his eyes. It was titled 《The Secrets of the Quiet Noises》.
Caspian put down the book he was supposed to read about photography to look at this particular book. The cover was a simple black with the delicate font of the book title.
Caspian returned to his chair and started to turn the book’s pages. The more he read, the more his face contorted in an ugly way. Eventually, he closed the book with a thud. The sound echoed throughout the library, so the other students turned to him. Caspian bowed his head and silently apologized.
He turned to look back at the book he was just reading. He turned over the book cover again and stared at the book’s author. Under the book name and introduction, the author’s name was written as follows:
〈Written by: Teacher Qiu Shao, 114th year of Emperor Qing’s reign〉
Under the author’s name, a note was written: 〈This is a book transcribed from the original scrolls damaged beyond time. The original book was translated to simplified characters for further studies to take place.〉
Caspian closed his eyes tightly as events of that particular day mercilessly played in his mind. It was very vivid, as if it had happened just yesterday.
Overwhelmed with the pour of emotions, Caspian closed the book and returned it to where he got it. He sat in front of the computer in a blank space. He couldn’t think of anything but the book he had just read.
‘If the events of that day were only a dream….’
If only it was a dream…
However, it wasn’t a dream, but a nightmare that suffocated him, strangling him on the neck every now and then. It was a horrible dream that he wanted to wake up from but couldn’t.
When his phone vibrated in his pocket, only then Caspian woke up from his reverie and come back to his senses. It was a message from his mother, asking him about school.
Caspian heaved a deep sigh before replying that everything was alright. After he sent the message, he looked at the time and saw that it was five minutes before two in the afternoon. He will run late if he does not go to his classroom in five minutes.
He thought that he had plenty of time before going to the library and was thinking of researching the history of painting. He didn’t know that a single book would make him lose track of time.
Caspian hurriedly grabbed his things and ran back to their classroom. Unexpectedly, Daisy was also just arriving at the front door, panting. They looked at each other. They laughed and entered the classroom together as if they were thinking of the same thing. They sat at the nearest table as their professor was just behind them. They were nearly marked as late.
Putting her things on the table, Daisy wiped the sweat on her forehead with the sleeve of her jacket. Suddenly, a piece of tissue appeared in her vision. When she looked at who was giving the tissue, it was Caspian.
Caspian was casually wiping his forehead with the tissue as well. He sweated from running from the library to their classroom. Daisy smiled and accepted the tissue.
“Thank you. I got lost track of time while I was doing some research.”
“Me too. I was just in the library and doing some research as well.”
Daisy lightly laughed when she thought of the uncanny similarity of why they were late.
“I think we both get lost in time when we are too focused on something.”
“I think so too.”
For the first time, Caspian laughed with his eyes shaped in crescents. It was such a beautiful sight that Daisy felt lost for a moment. When she realized that she was staring at him, Daisy slapped herself. She woke up from the pain.
Daisy cleared her throat and focused on the professor talking in front. With Caspian’s beautiful smile, she missed what their professor was talking about.
Since today is Friday, they will now pass their first assignment. It was the pictures she took with Caspian in the nearby park on the first day of school. Daisy compiled it into a folder and neatly pasted the images on it.
Beside her, Caspian also took out a thick folder. When Daisy looked at it, she was amazed.
“Wow. It’s uncanny how we do the same when we compile pictures.”
Caspian looked at Daisy’s work, and he was also astonished. When he took pictures, he used to print them out using photo paper before pasting them into a blank paper and compiling it into a folder. Below the pictures, he would put captions that he thought suited the picture he took.
Looking at Daisy’s work, Caspian must say that he was surprised to see that she was using the same method. Not many people would do the same. Most would only print the pictures directly and compile them into a folder. Not many people are as diligent in doing laborious work.
“It really is. Do you also handwrite the captions?”
“Yes! I think I came up with ideas easier when I write than when I use the computer.”
There was a hidden astonishment in Caspian’s eyes. To say that this is a coincidence, anyone would say they made their assignment together.
When the professor submitted their assignments, Daisy was worried that the professor would call them out for a similar format. Thankfully, he didn’t.
The professor started looking at their assignments. He nodded his head at some while shook his head with a frown at some assignments. Even so, he didn’t throw it away, unlike some professors who do so when they dislike the student’s work.
The following folder was Daisy’s. The professor raised his eyebrows when he saw the cover. It seemed like he seemed to be intrigued by the content. Finally flipping the pages, the professor couldn’t help but let out an exclamation.
“Marvelous! Who took these photos? Daisy… Annesley?”
The professor raised his head and searched for the owner of the folder. Daisy raised her head shyly. The professor looked at Daisy and beckoned for her to come down.
Daisy stood up from her seat and approached the professor. When she arrived in front, the professor proudly opened her assignment and showed it to their classmates.
“This! This is what I am talking about! Not only did this student take pictures, she even had time to put captions! And I am not only talking about how each of the captions is eye-catching but the pictures themselves as well.”
The professor pointed to the castle wall Daisy took. It was a wide shot, but it came out really well.
“Look at this. Even with the distance, you can really see the focused object here. And this student here made every picture full of emotions. She really brought out the ancient feel here. Great! Excellent!”
Daisy shyly smiled at the professor and her classmates.
The professor returned, looking at the pile of assignments, and grabbed another one. He was delighted and took out another one that made him happy. It was Caspian’s.
“Caspian Nixon?”
“Yes.”
The low voice echoed, and Caspian approached Daisy and the professor. He had a faint smile on his face.
