The Reincarnated Minister's Second Daughter Wants To Live A Happy Life - Chapter 4
Chapter 4
The first class ended with a happy note from the professor. He was delighted with this year’s first-year students.
He clapped his hand and walked outside the door.
Daisy stretched her hand after an hour of their first class. Her hand inadvertently touched Caspian’s shirt when she pulled it back. She was startled, so she looked at Caspian to see his expression.
Contrary to her expectations, Caspian was calmly fixing his things without a care. It seemed like he didn’t feel it.
‘Good grief. I’m so nervous that he’d get angry.’
But it was unintentional.
Caspian had his usual blank expression, the same as when Daisy was with strangers. Daisy might not know it, but Caspian had that same expression as hers.
Meanwhile, Caspian’s mind was already flying elsewhere. After raising his hand earlier, he saw Daisy looking at him with worship in her eyes. It was as if she was very amazed at him.
Even though Daisy only looked at him without saying anything, her eyes were enough to tell what she was thinking. Still, Daisy was looking at him with a blank face.
What was amazing about it was her eyes were shining brightly. It was like the star in the night sky – very bright.
After that, Caspian couldn’t focus anymore and was absentmindedly looking at his book. The letters were once again dancing without a tune. The class ended without him fully noticing it.
He only woke up from his reverie when a hand inadvertently touched his shirt. The touch was very light, like the touch of a feather, but he still felt it.
‘Am I being very conscious of her?’
The answer was as clear as crystal water. He could feel that she was once again staring at him. Even her faint breaths were audible in his ears.
He waited for a moment before looking back at her, but Daisy was already looking forward. For a moment, he felt a little disappointed.
‘Disappointed? Me?”
Capsian wanted to smack himself on the head when he thought of that. But before he could embarrass himself, the door opened.
Another professor walked inside, holding a big canvas. He must be their drawing teacher.
He looked a little bit stricter than their previous professor.
The new professor put down his things and formally introduced himself.
“I will be your drawing professor, Mr. Isaac Hughes.”
Everybody was silent, so Mr. Isaac continued talking while walking around the table in the front.
“We will start from the basics of drawing. Drawing has been a passion, especially for ancient people. They drew significant experiences and happenings. We will first understand the people of the ancient before we dive into the drawing. I want you to take a picture of what you think is related to the past. Then make a concept paper about what pictures you took.”
There was silent chatter among the students inside the classroom. Their first class, and there’s already an assignment.
“I expect you to pass it two days from now.”
“Prof, please extend until Friday.”
One of the students in front suggested being half-serious and half playful. Mr. Isaac turned to him. The student was startled, but Mr. Isaac said nothing.
Instead of scolding that student, he looked toward Caspian.
Caspian flinched when he saw Mr. Isaac looking at him. It was a meaningful look. Caspian bowed down and looked back at his book.
Daisy had the same reaction when she saw Mr. Isaac looking at her. She blinked her eyes and bowed her head as well.
Seeing that kind of reaction, Mr. Isaac retracted his gaze and returned to his table. He tapped the table with his fingers before speaking.
“Alright. Since this is your first week, I will be kinder. Pass it to me on Friday instead.”
“Thank you, Prof!”
“You’re the best, sir!”
Students at the front happily shouted. Other students couldn’t help but chime in.
Subsequently, they started their discussion for the day and finished after another two hours. It was already lunchtime.
Mr. Isaac went outside first with his things before the students inside started to disperse.
Daisy was also preparing to get out. She was thinking of eating lunch with Camille. She then received a message from Camille saying she was now in the library and would only finish in an hour. Camille told her that she could eat first and she would follow after.
Can’t bear to eat without Camille, Daisy went to look for their first assignment.
‘It’s better to do it early than cram later.’
She returned to her dormitory to get her digital camera. She prepared to go to the nearby historical park near their campus. She’ll surely get a lot of photos here.
Walking for fifteen minutes, she arrived at the park. Not many people visit the park during this time of the year. The months were getting colder, so it wasn’t suitable to go out and play.
Holding her digital camera, Daisy began taking pictures of the castle wall at the center of the castle. While walking around, she spotted a guy in a blue jacket. He seemed to be familiar.
“Huh…? Isn’t it… Caspian?”
By chance or not, Caspian was in the same place as Daisy. It was something hard to imagine.
It would look bad if you saw a classmate and won’t greet them, so Daisy approached him to say hi.
From afar, Caspian could see her walking toward him. He was shocked at first, but he thought that since this place is historical, it was apparent everyone would go here to take pictures.
Her tall figure was already in front of him while he was in a trance.
“Hello. Are you also taking pictures here?”
“Hmm. You too?”
“Yes. This place was near the campus, so I came here.”
“I see.”
Then their conversation was abruptly ended like that. Daisy felt awkward when she was the one who initiated the conversation.
“Oh, by the way, my name’s Daisy. Daisy Annesley. Nice to meet you.”
The funny thing is that Daisy first started a conversation with him before introducing herself.
Caspian was reminded that he also had yet to introduce himself and that they naturally didn’t know each other. He cleared his throat and opened his mouth.
“Uhm… I’m Caspian Nixon. Nice to meet you too.”
The awkward air around them came back after introducing themselves.
“Uh… did you graduate from Small Town High School?”
“Yes. You too?”
“Yes.”
Daisy answered with a smile on her face. Even though it was an obvious question with an obvious answer, she just wanted to ask.
The air around them lightened slightly, and the two of them were relieved. The two of them weren’t really the kind of people who were good at conversation. They both prefer to be silent than do the talking.
Nevertheless, since it was the first time Daisy initiated a conversation with someone she knew very little of, she felt very proud of herself. She had always wanted to experience that she started a conversation. Now that she did, she felt happier.
Caspian watched as Daisy’s expression changed from awkward to relieved to proud. He was even more surprised at himself to see those fleeting emotions on her face.
He coughed and held his camera tighter. He looked around to avoid her clear eyes.
“Uhm… what have you gotten so far?”
“Oh, I was just taking a picture of the castle wall. How about you?”
“Ah, I was just doing the same. Where’s your friend?”
Caspian remembered that someone called Camille was with her earlier when she entered their classroom.
Daisy thought for a moment before answering him.
“Ah, Camille. She said she was in the library, so I can go eat first.”
Daisy looked behind him and asked him the same thing.
“Do you have a friend with you?”
“Uh, no.”
Caspian felt shy when she asked that question. Honestly speaking, he had no one to call a friend as he was so bad at communicating with other people.
Caspian touched his nape and shyly smiled. Daisy saw that and understood his meaning.
‘He must have come here alone. Why is someone like him alone?’
Daisy didn’t know why she was feeling pity for him. Besides being classmates, she couldn’t think of another reason why she should feel that way. They have no other relationship than that. They weren’t even friends.
Caspian scratched his head when he saw the worry on Daisy’s face. He didn’t know what she was worried about.
To wipe off this awkward atmosphere between them, Caspian opened his mouth to speak.
“Uh… should we go over there? I heard… there were many things there that have significance in human history.”
“Oh, that’s good.”
Daisy unwittingly followed after him to the place he was saying.
They arrived at the little museum in the park. It was full of dioramas of how people might have lived in ancient times.
It was very life-like. Daisy held her camera and took several pictures of the dioramas displayed in the museum. She went around to get a better shot of each of them.
Caspian heaved a sigh when he saw her busily taking pictures.
‘Her attention was finally somewhere else.’
He didn’t know he was holding his breath until now. It felt like something was lifted from his chest.
He did that because he didn’t want to see the mixed worry and pity in her eyes. The windows of her soul were a pair of crystal clear brown eyes. It shows just how much innocent she was.
However, he was afraid of those eyes. If one day those eyes looked at him with tears and fear….
‘I think I won’t be able to take it.’
Just thinking about it made his heart writhed in pain. It was something he didn’t want to see, even if it wasn’t because of him or it was because of him. He couldn’t afford to see those clear eyes shed tears.
‘I just want to see you happy and smiling.’
The cold air blew and ruffled her hair. Daisy tucked it behind her ear and continued clicking her camera. Caspian was staring at her profile on the other side of the display.
