The Reincarnated Minister's Second Daughter Wants To Live A Happy Life - Chapter 3
Chapter 3
Summer vacation quickly passed like that. It still felt like graduation happened just yesterday; now, they were standing in front of Hurley College Institute.
A steady stream of students entered the college institute’s wide gates. There were all sorts of students. Others came from the nearby city, others from the nearby province and a handful of foreigners.
Daisy and Camille walked in front of the gates with a broad smiles on their faces. In this place, they will meet new people, make new friends, acquire new knowledge, and race to achieve their own dreams.
Ultimately, Daisy chose painting to be a painting major in Fine Arts, while Camille decided to major in photography.
“We’re finally here! Daisy, I’m very excited to be here!”
“I know. Your face says it all.”
Even with her usual tone of voice, there was evident excitement on Daisy’s face. Her hand even held Camille’s hand a little tighter. She was also a little nervous.
Following behind other students, likely first-year students like them, they arrived at the admission office. The staff there gave them their IDs and their dormitory number. Fortunately, they were in one room, so adjusting wouldn’t be that hard.
Daisy’s eyes were twinkling as they roamed around the campus with a wide grin.
They continued walking around the campus as there was still some time to spare before their first class.
On the other side of the campus, at the gate.
A tall boy wearing a blue jacket and denim pants was standing with his backpack behind him. He was holding his ID card and looking at the people going to and fro around the campus.
He continued walking until he arrived at the admission office.
One of the staff there was familiar with him and smiled at him. He smiled back.
“Oh my, it’s you, Caspian Nixon! Take a seat. Are you here to take your dormitory number and class schedule?”
“Yes.”
“Sit first and wait for a moment. I heard your mother went back from abroad.”
“Ah, yes. She’s resting at home now.”
“I see. If you have time, tell her to visit me some other time. I want to have a chat with her.”
“Yes.”
Caspian nodded and slightly smiled at the staff.
His mother recently arrived from her business trip. He heard that her boss sent her to another country because of something that had to do with one of the company’s branches.
The woman talking with him earlier was his mother’s friend, though they barely met each other.
Shortly after, her mother’s friend gave him his dormitory card and class schedule. When she looked at his schedule, she was a little surprised.
“Oh, you’re pursuing Fine Arts? I thought you’d at least apply to the Engineering Department. They badly needed a student like you.”
“Thank you.”
Caspian awkwardly smiled and quietly thanked her for the file. He didn’t talk much, so the staff let him go his way.
Before going to his first schedule, he went to the dormitory. There, he met three other boys sharing the room with him. They turned their heads at him when he opened the door.
A boy wearing a sky blue polo greeted him on the left side of the room.
“You must be Caspian Nixon.”
“I am.”
“Nice to meet you. We already segregated the beds for us three.”
“I see. Then I will be using the upper bunk.”
“As long as you don’t have any problems with it. If you don’t want to, we can exchange beds.”
The guy with the sky blue polo suggested. But Caspian shook his head and thanked him.
He silently put his things on his own desk and fixed his bed.
“By the way, my name’s Louis John. This guy here on the left using the lower bunk is Marco Stanley. And the one using the upper bunk is Nathan Smith.”
The two other guys greeted him, and Caspian greeted them back.
Louis was actually their senior, a second-year from the Engineering Department. He told him that all his buddies all dropped out of school, so it was only him using the room. Not now, since Caspian and the other two freshmen were using the room with him.
Louis only stayed for a moment and went out due to his schedule. The three men were left inside the room.
The one called Nathan was the first one to open his mouth.
“Are you also a Fine Arts student? What’s your major.”
“Yes. I chose painting.”
“Wow, you’re cool, bro… can I call you my bro?”
Nathan was unexpectedly very friendly and was already calling him bro.
Caspian nodded his head and faintly smiled. They talked a little more, and he found out that the two of them were also taking the same course as him. Though, the two of them are taking photography as their major.
After another 15 minutes, they were ready to go to their room and meet their new classmates. Nathan naturally wrapped his arm around Caspian’s shoulders, calling him bro, while Marco silently followed after them.
Upon reaching the first classroom in the Fine Arts Building, Nathan waved him goodbye and dragged Marco to their own classroom. Caspian just shook his head and went inside.
There were quite many people inside.
At the same time, Camille was hesitant to let go of Daisy’s hand when they arrived in front of Daisy’s room.
“Daisy….”
“Our classrooms were just next to each other. Don’t be nervous.”
Daisy couldn’t help but laugh at her childish best friend. Camille reluctantly let go of her hand.
“You must wait for me late, okay?”
“You said that many times already. I won’t forget.”
“Promise?”
“Are you a kid?”
“Hmm?”
Camille childishly stretched her pinky finger to Daisy, so Daisy had no choice but to promise with her, though it looked really childish.
After another childish tantrum, Camille walked toward her classroom. Daisy went inside as well and looked for a vacant seat. There’s still an empty seat on the third row from the front.
Daisy quickly walked there. A guy was already sitting on the left side, so Daisy asked him if she could sit there.
“Hello, classmate. Can I sit here beside you? I saw that there’s no other vacant seat except here.”
The guy raised his head. Unexpectedly or not, it happened to be the same Caspian Nixon – that guy Daisy couldn’t stop thinking of.
Their eyes met, and the world seemed to stop at that moment.
Daisy was startled when he saw his face. She didn’t expect him to be her classmate and the first person she talked to upon entering college. More than that, they were classmates. Isn’t it just like fate?
Caspian had the same reaction. He didn’t expect to see her again. He initially thought that he couldn’t meet her again. But here she is, in front of him – in one piece.
It took him a long time to answer, and he almost stuttered in his words. He was so nervous he didn’t know what to say.
“Ahh… y… you can sit here. Uhm… wait a minute.”
He removed his bag from the chair and offered the seat to Daisy.
Daisy sat down nervously. She took a deep breath and sneaked a glance at Caspian again. Coincidentally, Caspian was also looking at her.
She immediately looked away. It was very awkward between the two of them.
Daisy gently put down her things and fixed a notebook and a pen on her table. Caspian was already reading a book beside her. It was titled ‘Ancient Painting: The Beauty Under the Brush.’
Daisy was amazed at how he could understand such a complex book.
‘He really deserves his title Class A’s top 1. It was a pity I was in Class B in high school.’
While Daisy was busy admiring his intelligence, Caspian’s mind was flying elsewhere. The letters in the book seemed to be dancing without a tune. He couldn’t focus on what the book was saying. His attention was on the woman sitting beside him.
Caspian doesn’t really care when others are looking at him. But this woman staring at him is another matter. He felt somewhat burdened by her stare – as if she was looking at her innermost thoughts with her innocent brown eyes.
‘You’re driving me crazy.’
Fortunately, before Caspian went really crazy, the professor walked into the room and greeted them.
He focused on the professor instead, and Daisy did the same.
“I will be your professor for your major during your first year. You can call me however you want; just don’t forget to add Sir or Prof, alright?”
“Yes~!”
“Alright, that’s enough. Let’s start with our first lesson. We will be studying Western Art first. Can anyone tell me how Western art is distinct from arts of other countries?”
Everyone was silent. It seemed like they all didn’t have any idea of the answer.
The professor continued speaking as if he expected such a reaction.
“Western art focuses on the human figure. Can you give me an example? At least one.”
Caspian raised his hand.
“You over there.”
“The Mona Lisa by Leonardo Da Vinci.”
“Very good. Can anyone give me another example?”
The other students understood what the professor was talking about and raised their hands without hesitation.
“The Sistine Chapel Ceiling by Michelangelo.”
“Girl with a Pearl Earring by Johannes Vermeer.”
“The Birth of Venus by Sandro Botticelli.”
“Les Meninas by Diego Velázquez.”
