The Reincarnated Minister's Second Daughter Wants To Live A Happy Life - Chapter 20
Chapter 20
“This is…?”
Daisy stared unblinkingly at Caspian. The latter stared back at her with seriousness in his eyes. Those deep eyes were captivating her even deeper.
Caspian cleared his throat and carefully opened his mouth.
“I… was curious about how our ancestors held their wedding, and I was reminded how their veil was exquisitely embroidered with designs. Just like this one.”
“Is that so…?”
There was doubt in Daisy’s eyes, but Caspian doesn’t seem to be lying.
Actually, Caspian was nervous that if Daisy was to ask him another question, he wouldn’t be able to give her an answer.
When Daisy heard his answer, she decided to stop her doubtful thoughts. She shook her head. She went back to her seat as her mind swirled with thoughts.
Fortunately, Daisy didn’t ask anymore and went back to her seat. Caspian unconsciously let out a relieved sigh.
When she looked back at her drawing, she was reminded that he peeked at Caspian’s drawing. So, she ought to show him hers. Daisy turned to Caspian and waved at him, even though it was awkward for some reason.
“Uhm… do you want to… take a look at mine as well?”
“May I?”
At his short answer, Daisy remembered that he had spoken a long sentence. It was a wonder. He seems to be nervous for some reason.
Caspian looked at her. It was that same pair of languid eyes but with a hint of anticipation.
Caspian knew that she was once one of the best painters during that time, so he expected nothing but an exquisite piece of sketch. And indeed, he wasn’t disappointed.
When Caspian looked at Daisy’s canvas, he was as surprised as Daisy earlier – or he might be even more surprised as she was. No words could describe just how much he wished for the world to stop.
It was a simple sketch of a sword, but the design on the hilt was complex and eye-catching. Daisy was able to sketch the complicated carvings of the sword and even made it look as if Caspian was looking at the real thing.
‘How did this…?’
Caspian widened his eyes and stared at Daisy. But the person he was staring at was also staring at the sketch.
‘No… how come she…’
Caspian was thrown into confusion. He didn’t want to jump into useless conclusions, but this drawing just made his mind into utter chaos.
“What is it?”
Judy saw the two of them staring at the drawing so she took a peek as well. When she saw Daisy’s drawing, her jaw dropped and her eyes widened.
“Wow! Daisy, how did you draw that? It looked like the real thing!”
Judy couldn’t help but exclaim. Their classmates turned to their direction and were curious as well, but they dare not come near as they felt that the air between Caspian and Daisy was somewhat strange.
Judy continued staring at the drawing and singing praises. Only then did Caspian come back to his senses and look at Daisy. She seemed to be satisfied with her artwork.
‘Why did you draw that thing? Did you know… I was the one using that sword?’
But no matter how much Caspian asked in his head, there was no way that Daisy would hear it and answer his question.
“On one of the chapters of the book 《The Secrets of the Quiet Noises》, it was mentioned how the soldiers of that time fought for the Empire. In the end, they were the ones who died first.”
Daisy looked at the drawing with a melancholic face.
“This one was the Royal Guards Captain’s sword. Isn’t it beautiful?”
“… It is.”
“I knew it. Do you know his name?”
“I…”
Caspian was stumped for words for the first time. He never felt this nervous in his entire life. Even when he was in front of the assassins who came with the order to kill him, or when he died with her in his arms, he didn’t feel like this.
Caspian gazed at Daisy with unfathomable emotions inside his eyes.
“His name is Captain Li BaoHe. Even his name is heroic, don’t you think so?”
Daisy didn’t wait for him to answer and continued her words. She even asked Caspian for his thoughts about it.
Caspian remembered that passage. It mentioned how he was one of the brave soldiers that died in vain. It was also mentioned as to how he died and who he was with when he died – that was his wife. But other than that, there was no mention of his wife.
Daisy clearly remembers that passage as well. Her reaction when she read that was, ‘So I died with my husband, but it was a pity I didn’t know.’
Maybe when her husband came, she was already wandering in the Netherworld, searching for relatively nothing.
“He wasn’t the only one heroic.”
Caspian firmly said, as if he didn’t want to accept her words of praise.
Daisy smiled.
‘He was always as humble.’
Daisy nodded her head, “Of course, there were many soldiers alongside him who fought during the revolt.”
Caspian was surprised to know that Daisy knew a lot about that time. Though he never leaves the probability that Daisy might have personally known about it but expects nothing from her.
“So, uh… what do you think of my artwork?”
“It was beautiful.”
Caspian’s answer wasn’t only empty words but the truth. It was as it is, evident from Judy’s twinkling eyes as if she was looking at a piece of artwork inside a museum and not inside their classroom. Judy was even more amazed because Daisy was interested in things she wasn’t interested in the least bit.
“You even knew who was the owner of that sword, Daisy? You’re really cool!”
Judy raised her thumbs up to Daisy and giggled.
Daisy nodded her head. In fact, this sword was the only one in the word. She heard that it was personally rewarded by the Emperor to her husband, Li BaoHe. Of course, no one would dare copy an imperial design, lest they wanted to die quickly.
As to how she saw and knew that sword, it was because her father was the one who took care of that sword as the Minister of Wars, before it was given to Royal Guards Captain Li BaoHe. She only recalled this when she was in the Netherworld, when she kept thinking of him.
Once she died and was sent to the Netherworld, she reminisced how she fell deeply in love with that sword’s design – since it was the only one in the world.
“Uhm, well, I do… somehow I do.”
“Wow, that’s really great of you Daisy! You’re already great at taking photographs and now, you’re even excellent at sketching! What else are you good at?”
“Ahaha….”
Daisy let out an awkward laugh. She was somewhat embarrassed at her exaggerated praises.
Daisy looked at Caspian, who went silent, and was only staring at her drawing. He said that it was beautiful, so she would believe that. After all, she believed in Caspian even though she doesn’t know why.
“You drew the sword… in a very detailed manner.”
His low voice rang in her ears. It was as nice as ever. Daisy stared at Caspian’s face.
“You have a very good memory… to be able to draw something complex like this.”
“Oh, thank you. I unknowingly committed it to my memory.”
“Do you like this sword?”
“Yes, I do. The design is very intricate, and even the owner was amazing.”
“Is that so?”
“Yes.”
Daisy’s eyes were shining as she talked about the sword. When she thought of her supposed husband, it was somehow warming her heart.
Caspian was happy when he heard that Daisy liked his sword. Even that was enough for him to break out a broad smile on his lips, which he had never done in both his lives.
“!!!”
‘He is smiling!’
Daisy was surprised when she saw Caspian smiling widely at her. This time, she was stupefied and forgot how to speak.
Beside her, Judy was also dumbfounded when she saw Caspian smiling.
Caspian had never smiled before, so when he smiled, it seemed like the sun was shining more brightly and the air was blowing more sweetly. Even the birds felt like they were singing a song no one could fathom but Daisy.
In Daisy’s ears, they were singing praises of Caspian. It was as if the world suddenly stopped when he smiled.
“Thank you for liking it.”
Caspian smiled even more widely than he did earlier. Daisy blinked a few times and had a hard time coming back to her senses.
“O-oh, th, thank you.”
Daisy smiled back and at him. She didn’t know why but his smile was contagious.
‘Oh my God! Two good-looking people are smiling!’
Judy covered her mouth with her two hands. The scene in front of her was simply ethereal: a handsome man smiling at the beautiful woman smiling back at him. Anyone would say that it feels like it came out of a fairytale.
