The Reincarnated Minister's Second Daughter Wants To Live A Happy Life - Chapter 19
Chapter 19
As time passed, the pencil in Caspian’s hand scratched onto the canvas and drew something simple. Later, it became something that looked like a piece of clothing. The only difference was that it had some intricate designs on its hem – beautiful flowers and delicate lines.
Beside him, Daisy started sketching two parallel lines and then put a triangle on top. Before long, it became a simple sword. It was long and simple, but the handle of the sword had complex designs. It shows a fierce lion with eagle wings and hawk eyes.
The two of them were very serious about their own work.
Seeing that the two of them were nearly finished on their output after past an hour, Mr. Isaac circled around them and tugged the corners of his lips. He was very satisfied with their sketch.
Caspian felt Mr. Isaac’s presence behind him, so he turned his head and met his twinkling eyes. He didn’t know if it was because of his drawing or if it meant something else.
“Hmm, can you explain to me why you thought of sketching a wedding veil?”
“…”
Caspian looked at his drawing. He didn’t know that Mr. Isaac would know what he drew at one glance.
From another person’s perspective, they would have a hard time guessing what it is. They might even say that it must be a handkerchief with complicated designs. But it wasn’t the case for Mr. Isaac.
“I just thought that weddings of the ancient people were really interesting, so I drew this.”
“That’s good thinking. In order to live in the present, you need to live in the past.”
“…”
Caspian said nothing, but he thinks that Mr. Isaac meant something else.
Mr. Isaac smiled at him and turned to Daisy, who was doing some finishing touches on her sketch.
“What do you think, Miss Annesley?”
“Yes?”
Because Daisy was focused, she didn’t hear what the professor said, so she was startled when Mr. Isaac suddenly asked her a question.
Because of her loud voice, the other students turned their heads in their direction. It unexpectedly became a recitation class.
“In order to live in the present, you need to live in the past. What do you think?”
“Uh….”
Daisy blinked her round eyes. She first put down her pencil, thinking of Mr. Isaac’s question. She looked into his eyes.
“I think… that is right, sir. We… wouldn’t be here if we didn’t come from the past.”
“Good.”
Then Mr. Isaac turned his back with a smile on his face.
Caspian and Daisy looked at each other, confusion evident on their faces. They both didn’t know why they were suddenly asked the same question. It was as if Mr. Isaac meant something else, but at the same time, he meant nothing.
Mr. Isaac went in front of the class again, wearing a broad smile on his face. It was unknown what he was thinking at the moment. He was very different from when he was delighted at Daisy’s photos and was eager to let her and Caspian join the school newspaper club.
He clapped his hand to gain everyone’s attention. When he saw that all the students were looking at him, he opened his mouth.
“Although there is no way for us to go back in the past just so we could understand the people from ancient times, we need to think logically about how they lived there. Picture yourselves living during those times. What do you think you would be doing there? What kind of people were you with? What place were you in? Have you thought of these questions before holding your pencils and sketching?”
Obviously, the answer was no.
“That’s why your drawings were all soulless. You should think of capturing the hearts of those who would look at your drawings, even though it was only sketched. Every piece of art has its own emotion. Do you understand?”
“… Yes.”
It took some time for the students to answer, as what their professor said was right.
After that, Mr. Isaac walked out and reminded them to pass their outputs before the day ended. The students inside couldn’t help but groan.
Daisy looked back at her drawing. It was a simple sword with its handle decorated with a lion with eagle wings and hawk eyes. Anyone who would look would think that she thought of the brave soldiers of the ancient times, defending and protecting their kingdoms. But Daisy was thinking of a different thing.
She rarely went out of their manor, and when she did, she was always with her family. Once, she went to the imperial banquet held inside the Imperial Palace. She saw royal guards stationed on every corner of the palace. It is for the safety of the Imperial Family and for the guests as well.
There, she met the ‘flower man’ everyone called. She fell in love with him at once. They say it only takes three seconds for a woman to fall in love, and that was what exactly happened to her.
She didn’t know the reason why, but his appearance as an elegant flower caught her eye.
‘Maybe I really have a thing with good-looking men.’
She heard that he was also a royal guard under the supervision of her husband. But she never met her husband even before their marriage.
‘Ah, there was that too.’
A royal guard helped her once in that same royal banquet. He thought she was lost and led her back to the banquet hall. Because it was too dark, she was unable to see his face. She only heard his low voice.
[Please don’t wander anywhere in the palace. You might lose your way and never be able to go back.]
His meaning was self-evident. He meant that she might lose her life if she had seen things she wasn’t supposed to witness.
[Thank you for helping me go back here. What is your name so I can repay you?]
For once, she opened her tightly closed lips and spoke. It was one of the handful of times she had spoken.
[This is my work, my Lady. You may go inside now.]
Seeing that the royal guard had no intention to introduce himself, she didn’t pursue any further and thanked him quietly. After that, she never knew who that royal guard was.
Even so, thinking back to it now, his voice somewhat sounded like Caspian’s. Even though her memory was quite vague, it was a wonder that she could somehow recall that royal guard’s voice.
Daisy turned her head to look at Caspian. As usual, he had a nonchalant expression and languid eyes as he stared at the canvas in front of him.
Daisy suddenly became curious about what Caspian drew. Still, she thought that they weren’t that close yet to the point that they show each other’s drawings to each other.
“Do you want to take a look?”
Surprisingly, Caspian opened his mouth and asked Daisy as if he knew she wanted to take a look.
Daisy was stunned and was silent for a moment. After pondering, she slowly rose from her chair and approached the canvas in front of Caspian. Since there was quite some distance between them, she needed to stand up.
“Can I?”
“Yes.”
Caspian gave some space to her and willingly let her look. He thought there would be no harm at all – she doesn’t remember after all – was what he thought.
Daisy tilted her head and looked at Caspian’s drawing. As soon as she saw the sketch, her mouth opened, and her eyes widened.
‘This… this… how could this….?’
Her head was filled with questions.
‘Maybe… it was only the same design….’
Daisy comforted herself that there was no way this design would come out here. That was her own design she embroidered on her wedding veil.
Daisy looked at Caspian with complicated eyes swirling in her eyes. Her eyebrows were furrowed, and her eyes were filled with confusion.
Caspian saw that but was unaware of the reason. He felt that Daisy was somehow not feeling good after looking at his drawing.
“Are you alright, Me– Daisy?”
Caspian became flustered and almost called her that name. Fortunately, he came back to his senses before he could say that.
“I… how did you….”
Caspian looked at the drawing and became even more flustered. He had no idea why Daisy was suddenly like that.
‘Did her memories… return?’
But thinking of this notion, it was simply impossible. Caspian was reminded of the King of the Netherworld’s words.
[But even if you were reborn, do you think your wife would even remember you? To be honest, you two don’t have any special feelings for each other. Why are you thinking you could meet her without those special feelings?]
For once, the King of the Netherworld was right. Why was he even obsessed with his wife? No one knew the promise, so no one would blame him if he didn’t fulfill it, right?
‘But… Daisy is in front of me.’
That means half of his words were lies.
Caspian looked at Daisy’s eyes. It was as clear as always.
