The Reincarnated Minister's Second Daughter Wants To Live A Happy Life - Chapter 11
Chapter 11
Daisy panted as she arrived at the library. Caspian walked too fast that she barely caught up with him. Upon entering the library, she looked around to search for Caspian.
When she didn’t see Caspian, she walked around to look for him. Because the library was huge, it took her some time to find him. Daisy sighed when she finally saw him in front of a computer behind the history books section.
Caspian was sitting there, seriously reading a book. Daisy approached her and accidentally saw the book he was reading.
“⟪The Secrets of the Quiet Noises⟫?”
Caspian raised his head and looked at Daisy. He didn’t say anything.
Daisy stared back at him. His eyes were, as usual, languid but profound. However, no matter how much Daisy stared at them, she never could understand the look in his eyes.
Caspian thought that Daisy would have some reaction, but he was disappointed to see nothing coming out of her.
‘Maybe she forgot everything about it.’
Caspian felt downcasted when that thought flashed in his mind. Even though he was hoping that Daisy could just forget everything that happened, a part of him also wishes that she remembered even just a little of it.
‘But that memory was very painful.’
Caspian decided to not raise any expectations to Daisy. In the first place, he was also the reason for her death. If she came to know it one day, Caspian would instead she hit him until she was satisfied – even though that would really hurt his pride as a man.
Even if she were to hate him to the core, everything would be fine. After all, he had already dedicated this life to her. So, nothing else matters than paying his debt of life.
Caspian lowered his head as he looked at her pair of clear, brown eyes. He could never let those pair of eyes be stained with pain and tears. He would not let it happen – ever.
“I saw this while browsing through the bookshelves. It is… interesting to read.”
“Oh, I see. You have good taste in books.”
“Have you read this?”
“I… did.”
Daisy’s voice suddenly became gloomy. She furrowed but shook her head instantly. She dared not to show her mixed emotions to Caspian. He might get the wrong idea when he seems to like reading the book.
While reading that book one sunny day, Daisy had mixed emotions. She didn’t know what to feel or what to do. A long time had already passed, so she couldn’t do anything about it. If there was something else she could do, it was resenting those people. But even resenting those people wouldn’t make the people who died come back to life.
Many people died during that time, but no one knew why. Even official records didn’t mention the trivial happening that day. For most people, that time was only the most frightening treason against the imperial power – nothing else.
No one knows who died in what place and who killed those innocent people. Blood would still spill even if she was to go back to that time.
When Caspian saw the look on her face, he suddenly became nervous. But before he could ask her what was wrong, Daisy suddenly smiled.
“But that doesn’t matter. No one knows if what was written in that book was true anyway.”
“…”
“What do you think of what was written in the book? No one really knows what happened during that time because according to official records, all scholars and historians were killed.”
“I… don’t know. I am only halfway reading this.”
“I see.”
Daisy said as she quietly pulled a chair and sat beside him.
What Caspian had initially thought, it seemed like Daisy was only feeling sad over what was written in the book. She doesn’t seem to remember anything in particular.
“Oh, about earlier, why did you –”
“It doesn’t matter. You also don’t seem to like the idea of being his mentor.”
Daisy was asking him about what he said in the classroom. It happened so quickly that she had no time to think and just ran after him. Now, she felt really grateful for what he did. Who knows how long Gabriel would force her if it hadn’t been for Caspian?
But Caspian didn’t even let her finish the question and answered immediately. At that, Daisy felt utterly speechless.
“You didn’t even let me finish my question, classmate.”
Daisy pouted and put out her books from her bag. Since she was in the library already, it wouldn’t matter if she studied for a little bit before returning. Though, Camille is probably waiting for her with good food.
“Ah, sorry. I just didn’t want you to misunderstand me.”
“It doesn’t matter. Anyway, thank you for earlier. I wouldn’t have known what to do if you weren’t there.”
“It’s nothing.”
“By the way, what are you researching here in the library? I think we have yet to discuss research.”
“I just wanted to research the history of painting ahead of time.”
“Ahh.”
Daisy nodded her head and looked back at the book she was reading. Recently, she also developed some kind of liking for reading history books. That was why she inadvertently read the book Caspian was reading.
During their summer vacation, Daisy frequented the local library in town. She accidentally stumbled upon a copy of the same book and started reading it. The cover was anything but simple, so she was able to remember it when she saw the book at one glance.
Come to think of it, whenever she was with Caspian, he seemed to speak a lot more than with other people. She doesn’t want to think much about it, but….
‘What if we just happen to have many similarities? That’s why he saw me as interesting?’
Daisy glanced at Caspian. He was doing his research with such seriousness. The book he was reading earlier was stacked under the pile of books he had with him.
‘Incredible. He was able to get those books within the time I was running after him.’
It was simply inhuman to think about it. To be fair, he walked just a minute before her, and she ran after him. But to get this number of books in that short time?
Daisy was starting to respect and admire him a little more. Ever since she saw Caspian on their graduation day, she couldn’t help but feel butterflies in her stomach. It was tickling her insides every moment she saw him.
But even so, Daisy could talk to him smoothly without any problems and even open up about topics that interest them both. It was undeniably a blessing. Who could have ever thought that the shy and silent Daisy would have many productive conversations with the person she admires?
Daisy smiled to herself, thinking that the Gods might have some favorable feelings for her. She felt that to have at least one conversation with the person she admires is already a blessing. But, not only did she talk with Caspian once, but it was more than that.
Daisy smiled to herself and happily looked back at her book.
‘Camille likes to eat chicken, so she probably bought one. Should I buy pizza for her?’
Daisy was in a good mood and thought of treating Camille to pizza.
Looking at the monitor, Caspian was flooded with thousand thoughts.
When Daisy said that she had read the book, even before he had found it, he was dumbfounded and felt nervous. Even now, he was having difficulty focusing on what he was reading.
Caspian could feel that Daisy was staring at him, and he didn’t have the guts to face her pair of clear eyes.
As soon as he heard that Daisy had read the book, he thought about how he could answer her questions. Just thinking about the look she would have in her eyes, he couldn’t imagine how he would react.
Sometimes, he just wanted to run to her and tell her everything, but he was scared that people might think he had gone crazy. When he first saw her on their graduation day, he initially thought he was probably hallucinating from his thousand years in the Netherworld.
The Netherworld was a lonely place filled with lost souls. Some went crazy and became demons and evil creatures. But Caspian kept looking for the road to light even though he was scorched with the painful nether fire. Every moment he spent there, he wished that he quickly went to reincarnate to be able to meet her again.
He thought he was ready to face her, but seeing her on their graduation day made him rethink his resolve. He was shaken to the point he wanted to go back to the Netherworld. He became frightened of the thought that she might hate him.
Thinking about it now, it doesn’t seem to get close to her first and slowly reveal to her about the happenings on that day.
‘No matter where this would take me, I should live honestly.’
The pair of her clear, brown eyes looked like crystals whenever she looked at him. It draws him in a little deeper every time. It was such a mystery that only her eyes could do that.
