To the Person I Love and Hate the Most… - Chapter 21
Confrontation…
I guess I won’t hear anything from Natsumi anymore.
What the hell have I been doing all this time…
I just hope that Natsumi can come back to her senses and have a great life…
That’s what I truly hope.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One day, I receive a call from unfamiliar phone number.
When I answer it, it turns out to be Natsumi’s mother.
She explains that she will be coming to Tokyo tomorrow and want me to accompany her to meet her daughter and the person she is living with.
I agreed so
Once again, I’m going to meet Natsumi and her roommate.
The next day, I go to the place where we decided to meet a bit earlier.
To my surprise, Natsumi’s mother is already there, waiting for me.
Although I have explained it in the letter, I tell Natsumi’s mother again what had happened so far.
“I still don’t completely believe everything you say, but…I’m sure that you have taken a good care of Natsumi and I know for a fact that my daughter has caused you a lot of trouble. On behalf of my daughter, I apologize. I’m truly sorry.”
Natsumi’s mother bows her head as she says so.
“No…I’m the one who has caused her a lot of trouble…”
I reply so, bowing my head.
“I want you to come today because I want my daughter to make everything clear.”
“Make everything clear?”
“To determine which of you, her boyfriend or the man she is living with, she intends to marry!”
A chill runs down my spine the moment I hear those words.
There is no way that Natsumi will choose me under the current circumstances…
It will be really painful to hear it so bluntly…
Then, me and Natsumi’s mother go to a restaurant where Natsumi and her roommate will meet us.
After waiting for a while, Natsumi and her roommate finally arrive.
“Natsumi-chan, I came here because I’m really worried.”
Natsumi’s mother said so in a gentle tone.
Once Natsumi and her roommate take their seat, Natsumi’s mother doesn’t waste much time on small talk and get straight to the point.
“I’ve heard most of the details from this person. There is one thing I want to ask you, Natsumi! Do you have any intention of getting married to the man you’re currently living with?”
Natsumi seems to be evading the question, but her mother isn’t going to let her off the hook.
After a short pause…
“I will…marry Ka-kun…”
Natsumi answered so decisively.
Natsumi’s mother briefly give me a sad look and says,
“Well then, you two are going to cover the bill here! I can’t let you meet this person again, Natsumi! Let’s go!”
Then, I leave the restaurant with Natsumi’s mother.
“I know this must be hard for you…but I hope my presence here and the conversation we had just now can give you some closure. Can you accept it?”
“Yeah…I’m grateful that you came all the way here to give me some closure. Thank you very much.”
With that, I leave the place.
I knew that there was no chance Natsumi would choose me…
But still…it’s really painful.
I get off the train, desperately holding back my tears.
Then when I arrive home, I receive a call from Natsumi’s mother.
When I pick up the call,
“It’s too cruel of me to make Natsumi decide in such situation. If the two of you are going to break up, you two should have a proper conversation about it. My daughter ended up in tears after the conversation…I’m sorry, I know this is really selfish, but can you meet Natsumi one more time?”
Honestly, I really want to decline her request, but I decided to agree because I feel grateful to her for coming all the way here just for us.
I arrive at the place where we decided to meet.
I see Natsumi there, waiting for me.
“What is it? What do you have to say?”
I ask coldly.
“You don’t have to act so coldly to me! I was suddenly told to decide it in such situation…”
“Why do you look so sad? I don’t understand…you chose your roommate, that’s all there is to it, right?”
That’s the only reply I can give to Natsumi.
“Wait a minute…please give me some more time, Ma-kun.”
For some reason, Natsumi pleads so.
“Give you more time? It’s been almost half a year since winter…I tried talking to your family to help you our when you were feeling down, but you got angry at me and even told me to stop contacting you. I don’t know what to do anymore! That’s why, I won’t do anything anymore! I will let you be just like you told me so. From now on, if you have any issues, it’s up to you to take action!”
Saying so, I leave Natsumi behind.
