Direct Confrontation… Part 1
In the evening, I nervously wait at the café where we decided to meet.
I clench my fists, thinking that things can escalate to a physical confrontation in no time.
After a while…
“Ma-kun!”
Natsumi comes inside the café with a big smile on her face, I’m really happy to see her after a while.
Following her is a tall man who politely bow to me.
I return the bow to him.
We sit down and order some drinks.
Then we just sit there silently, without saying anything.
When our drinks arrive, the roommate suddenly begins to talk with an angry tone.
“I’m Kazuto Ichinose. I’m currently in a relationship with Natsumi. Do you have no morals, taking someone’s property like this?”
I’m not exactly composed myself.
In fact, I’m trembling a little.
But it seems like Natsumi’s roommate is on the edge of exploding.
He is looking at me with a very sharp stare, and his hands are also shaking as he is holding his glass.
As Natsumi told me, he doesn’t seem to be very good at controlling his emotions.
I calm myself down and begin to talk.
“First of all, people aren’t properties, you know? Besides, legally, there shouldn’t be any relationship between you and Natsumi, right?”
“It’s not about the law, we are living together. On top of that, you do know that it is not right to mess with someone’s girlfriend, don’t you?”
He retorted.
“In case you’re wondering, the story of how me and Natsumi met is because she wanted my help to get away from your violence…”
Interrupting my explanation, he starts to make his argument.
“What kind of life have you led up until now? Do you have no morals? You’re stealing someone else’s partner, you know? You might work in a respectable company, but as a human being, you are the worst. In the first place, normal people wouldn’t mess with someone else’s girlfriend. You truly are a despicable person!”
I wait for him to finish his words while sipping my tea.
It seems like he has no intention of listening to my side of the story.
“Are you finished? I came here today because you wanted to have a discussion with me, but if you’re only interested in telling your side of story and not listening to what I have to say, then this isn’t really a discussion, is it? So, can I go now?”
“That’s…”
Finally, he falls silent.
“Now, let me tell you my side of the story. The beginning of my relationship with Natsumi started when she told me that she wanted my help because she was getting abused by you. So, can you tell me about that!? Also, when you mentioned that both you and Natsumi are living together, as of now, it’s actually me who is living with her. Unlike you, I actually have a proper contract with a real estate agent stating that Natsumi lives with me. Furthermore, Natsumi left you and came to me after writing a farewell letter to you. It was a one-sided breakup through a letter, so I can understand if you have something to say about it. That’s why I agreed to come here and talk about it with you today.”
He quickly starts to defend himself.
“Abuse, you say? It was more like a lovers’ quarrel! We were playing a game, and Natsumi got mad when she lost and kicked me really hard. It hurt so much that I couldn’t help but to kick her back…”
Natsumi gets angry at his words.
“Sure, I did kick you first, but does that give Ka-kun the right to kick me in front of your friends? It was incredibly embarrassing for me! Besides, your kick was way too strong! I couldn’t even breathe properly after that! On top of that, you just left me there! Don’t make it sound like you are the victim here!”
Then, I calmly express my opinion.
“I see…so it was Natsumi who started it all in the first place… You shouldn’t have done that, Natsumi. However, even so, Natsumi is still a woman, right? Don’t you think your retaliation a bit excessive? You’re a big guy, women would be scared if you did something like that…”
At my words, he lowers his head.
“W-Well…I do admit that I went too far…I’m sorry. But I’m the one who have been providing for Natsumi all this time!”
Hearing those words, I can’t help but to feel annoyed.
“Huh? Providing for her? Aren’t you receiving those money from your parents too? It’s a bit arrogant of you to say that while you’re being financially supported by your own parents, isn’t it?”
