Vol 1 Chapter 13 – Oroy Great Forest
The High Poison Snake extermination in Oroy Great Forest that Mother requested of me.
To carry it out, I flew through the sky from Reesroy territory to Oroy Great Forest.
“Why are you even here?”
“What’s the problem? Am I not allowed to come along?”
Next to me right now is Ryshia.
“It’s fine, but I can handle this by myself, you know?”
There’s no need for Ryshia to come all the way out here with me.
I can handle High Poison Snakes on my own.
I’ve even gone hunting for their materials by myself before. I can exterminate them without any problems by myself.
“Don’t let your guard down. High Poison Snakes are quite powerful monsters, you know? In knight corps terms, solo combat against them is reckless. They’re opponents where squad-level combat is recommended. Going against a horde of such monsters alone is reckless.”
“You know how strong I am, Ryshia. I helped you before, remember?”
I basically never fight in front of people, but the one exception is that I’ve fought in front of Ryshia.
Ryshia should know I won’t lose against High Poison Snakes.
“Yes, I know your strength well enough. That’s exactly why. I don’t want to let you go to a battlefield alone.”
“Really? Well, if you’re worried about me, I’ll gratefully accept those feelings.”
There is the possibility that some dangerous organization might be involved in the mass spawning of High Poison Snakes, after all.
It’s not like having Ryshia here is a problem… I’m fine with it. But I think she should have her own things she needs to do. She visits me quite frequently—does she really have that much free time?
If anything, I’m more worried about Ryshia than myself.
“Now, let’s go.”
“…Hmm. Well, yeah. All right then, wait while I cast detection magic first.”
Well, it’s not really my place to worry.
I switch my mindset and properly use detection magic to record all the monsters in this forest.
“Whoa. There’s quite a lot.”
Using magic to create a terrain map of this area and adding the magical signatures I detected to it, I’m astonished by the number of High Poison Snakes.
There’s seriously a shocking amount.
How many are there exactly? Too many to count.
“…Once again, your magic is on another level. Recording the entire terrain with magic and recording all the monsters there too—with this magic, you could change the shape of warfare in this world, you know?”
It’s not like there’s any war or anything in this world anyway.
The last recorded conflict between nations was over three hundred years ago. Regardless of whether I have this magic or not, no one knows what war even looks like anymore.
“I’m honored by your praise. All right. Let’s get to exterminating them efficiently, shall we?”
“Yes… I’ll try not to hold you back.”
“Hehe, I’m counting on you.”
Ryshia and I shared a laugh as we proceeded deeper into Oroy Great Forest.
Vol 1 Chapter 14 – High Poison Snake
The snake, exceeding three meters in length, had dazzling green scales with several purple bands running across its body. Its eyes glowed red, and in its gaze searching for prey dwelled cold intelligence and madness.
“Kshaaaa…!”
Suddenly, a High Poison Snake leapt from the bushes and pounced on a nearby wild deer. Its venomous fangs flashed and sank into the deer’s throat, and seconds later the deer’s body convulsed and fell silent.
The High Poison Snake opened its mouth wide toward the deer it had taken down and swallowed it whole. For its massive three-meter body, swallowing a deer whole was easy. After swallowing the deer whole, the High Poison Snake began digesting it as it passed through its body.
“…Sha.”
However, midway through digestion, the High Poison Snake’s body trembled. After convulsing for a while, it toppled over on its side and fell completely silent.
The High Poison Snake that had hunted prey and swallowed it ended its life because of that very action.
“Perfect.”
Having watched this scene from nearby, I approach the fallen High Poison Snake with satisfaction.
“…That’s pretty brutal.”
“Really? Isn’t it a fairly standard hunting method?”
Mixing poison into the bait. I thought it was a common approach.
I answer while using magic to store the High Poison Snake’s corpse in another dimension, then stand up.
“Let’s keep going at this pace.”
I clap my hands together and activate magic.
Then, a massive magic circle appears at my feet, and from it emerge large numbers of the deer the High Poison Snake had just swallowed, which then head deep into the forest.
“Even if Ryshia and I divide up the work hunting High Poison Snakes, we can’t exterminate them all with this many. There’s no end to them.”
I have to be creative like this.
“Come on, Ryshia. Let’s go High Poison Snake hunting ourselves too.”
“Kshaaaa…!”
The moment I take a step forward, a High Poison Snake leaps out in front of me.
I blast through it with a single shot of fire magic as I continue walking.
“…I’ve been thinking this the whole time, but you use magic without incantations like it’s nothing. How do you do it?”
“Well, I’ve always worked solo, after all. There’s no particular need to declare my magic and show everyone around what I’m doing. For someone like me who fights alone a lot, it’s a skill worth polishing since there’s no loss in doing so.”
“That doesn’t make it something you can easily do though.”
“It’s pretty easy, actually. Want me to teach you?”
“Oh, then I’ll take you up on that.”
“Okay.”
While taking down High Poison Snakes, I taught Ryshia about incantationless magic.
