The youthful romantic comedy between my “commuting wife” and me is too sweet!! - Chapter 2
Episode 2
I suppose I should start with an introduction.
My name is Yuuki Souma.
I’m a second-year student at a public high school along the coast of Kanagawa Prefecture.
I’m not part of any clubs and have pretty average grades.
Due to certain circumstances, I’m currently living alone, though my family situation isn’t anything unusual.
As for me, I’m ordinary—through and through.
In middle school, I was part of a sports club and worked hard.
But after entering high school, I haven’t really put effort into anything or pursued any particular goal.
Naturally, I don’t have any special talents either.
My life has been one monotonous routine.
I hang out with my small circle of idiot friends, work a part-time job, occasionally crack inappropriate jokes like a typical high schooler, ogle cute girls, and lament, “Man, I wish I had a girlfriend.”
In other words, I’m just another run-of-the-mill high school student.
But that average, unremarkable person—me—was thrown into a somewhat extraordinary situation about two months ago.
On Valentine’s Day, during my first year of high school.
“If you’d like… would you accept this?”
After school, I was stopped at the entrance by a girl who handed me a small, neatly wrapped box.
Caught completely off guard, I stupidly replied, “Yes? Why?”
To my idiotic question, she gave this answer.
“Because… I like you, Yuuki-san.”
That’s right.
On that day, she—Miu Amaya—confessed her feelings to me.
The details of how that came to be can wait for another time.
But the moment she confessed, my life as an ordinary guy came to an end.
Miu Amaya was a celebrity at our school.
Her stunning looks had earned her the title of “the most beautiful girl in school” as soon as she enrolled.
Everyone knew who she was.
She was elegant, idol-level cute, academically brilliant, thoughtful, modest, and calm.
In short, she was flawless.
It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say every guy at school had admired her at least once.
I was no exception; I often found my eyes drawn to her in class without even realizing it.
So when the girl I secretly admired confessed to me, I had no reason to say no.
And that’s how, from Valentine’s Day onward, Miu and I became a couple.
We were each other’s first boyfriend and girlfriend—a true bolt from the blue.
Even as a high schooler, I realized just how life-altering this was.
From that point on, my high school life completely changed.
News that I was dating Miu spread across the school by the next day.
The once-ordinary me became “that guy who got confessed to by Miu Amaya” and “the guy dating Miu Amaya.”
You’d think dating the girl of my dreams would make everything perfect, but it wasn’t all smooth sailing.
In fact, it was rough at first.
The guys at school were jealous out of their minds.
During PE, I became a prime target.
In soccer, my teammates would aim their shots at me instead of the goal.
When it came time to pair up, I was deliberately left out—though one of my Kansai-accented friends would eventually step in with a smug, “Guess I’ve got no choice. You owe me one!”
The school sports tournament was even worse.
Not just my classmates, but even students from other classes and upperclassmen would gang up on me, ignoring the rules entirely.
Usually, things ended with a teacher losing their temper and breaking it up, but looking back, it was a tough time.
Still, I enjoyed my new life. It was far more exciting than the uneventful days I had before.
Why? Because… my everyday life now included a girlfriend. No, it included Miu.
And after about two weeks of dating, I noticed a change in Miu.
“Souma-san, would you like to walk home together?”
“I made lunch for you today…”
“This movie looks really interesting. Would you like to watch it with me?”
Perhaps tired of seeing the constant jealousy-fueled attacks on me, Miu, who had been shy and reserved, began openly spending time with me in public.
During breaks and after school, she’d come over to me with a smile, often for no particular reason.
Almost every day, we’d walk home together.
Naturally, we started going to school together in the mornings too. It didn’t take long for the other guys to be crushed by the sight.
Before I knew it, less than two months into our relationship, we’d earned the title of “that lovey-dovey couple.”
And frankly, we were.
I couldn’t help but adore Miu’s newfound assertiveness.
Her actions made me smile like an idiot, and I welcomed them wholeheartedly.
It’s no wonder people around us were exasperated.
Even though I was still dealing with the occasional jealous prank, everything else was smooth sailing.
We were a couple so perfectly silly it was hard to argue otherwise.
And now, she’s somehow ended up as… my “commuting wife.”
