Chapter 37: The Lazy Introvert’s Heroic Figure
ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
I had never been more grateful for my combat experience that I had honed in the dungeons more than now. All those countless battles against monsters had honed my instinct to make a split second decision. My reflexes had been sharpened to ensure I could react appropriately to danger. By drawing on all that experience, I quickly calculated the trajectory of the bullet and raised my bag to block it. Fortunately, after the incident with Onizuka, I had switched my bag to a bulletproof bag just to be safe. The officer’s bullet was repelled by the bag.
“…?!”
The unexpected turn of events caught the officer off guard. His eyes widened in surprise. He fumbled to fire the second shot, but I had no intention of giving him the chance to fire it.
“Go to hell!!”
I dashed to the officer at full speed, quickly closing the distance between us and delivered a solid punch to his abdomen. He doubled over in pain and I immediately took the opportunity to snatch the gun from his right hand. Possession of a firearm was a serious crime, but this wasn’t the time to be worrying about that.
“Don’t move. I will kill anyone who makes any funny move.”
“…”
“You think you guys can win just because I’m alone? You weak0ass cops don’t stand a chance against me.”
“Ugh…”
The policemen flinched under my sharp gaze. Their confidence wavering and the girl managed to escape unharmed amidst the chaos. Her knees buckled and she fell to the ground behind me. Her voice was barely a whisper as she muttered.
“Tha-Thank you, Oomomo-kun.”
“If you have the time to thank me, you should just use that to run. I will handle this.”
“Huh…? But… They’re the police officers, you know…?”
“So what? I can kill them all just fine.”
With that, I turned my attention to the other students who were still in the courtyard.
“All of you. You need to get out of here too. I don’t think I can protect you all after this.”
“O-Oomomo-san…”
“You’re really going to help us…?”
Of course, I didn’t have any obligation to protect these people. Although they didn’t harm me directly like Onizuka, but they were silent spectators. They just stood there and let the bullying happen. Of course, I didn’t want them to die in front of me, but I had zero reason to risk my life for them. But still, this fight was caused by my actions. The thought of someone dying because of something I had done just left a bad taste in my mouth. I was merely cleaning up my own mess, not because I wanted to protect them or anything.
The students must have realized it would be best if they run away now. Nodding silently at my words, they quickly ran toward the back of the school. They didn’t go into the school building though. They probably deemed it would be safer to leave the school through the back gate.
“Hm…?”
But then, I couldn’t stop myself from frowning upon seeing the thing that happened next. I strained my eyes to see more clearly and there, I could see a group of yakuza approaching the school. I wasn’t entirely sure if they were part of the Kamisuyama clan or not, but I could tell from their demeanor alone that they were not ordinary citizens. There were about 30 of them and they formed a human wall at the school gate to block any attempt I might make to escape.
Just as I expected, all of them looked lifeless. Their eyes hollow, devoid of any sanity.
“Tch. What a cowardly tactic.”
I didn’t know why but the Dungeon Investigation Agency seemed intent on eliminating me no matter what. If they were willing to go this far, then I shouldn’t need to hold back either. I was justified to use this gun too.
But then…
“OOOOOOOHHHHH!!!”
To my surprise, a group of students on bicycles came charging at the enemy group. It wasn’t just one or two students. There were a lot of them. Their faces looked familiar though. They were the same students who had escaped to the back of the school building. All of them launched a full-on assault on the mob with their bikes.
“ORRRRAHHHHH!!”
“WOOOOHHHHHHHH!!!”
Although they were just a bunch of amateurs, but the sheer number and ferocity from them was enough to overwhelm the enemy. The enemy’s formation crumbled in an instant along with dull cries of pain.
“Wha-What…?!”
“We’re going to help! Everyone! Let’s support Oomomo-san!!”
With that motivating yell, the students launched an all-out assault on the drugged police officers and yakuza. The enemy was caught off guard by this unexpected turn of events. Chaos erupted in the enemy’s rank.
“You idiot! I told you to run! You guys won’t be able to beat them!”
“We know! We know that!! But… We don’t want to be silent bystanders anymore!!!”
One of the students shouted while swinging an awkward punch at the yakuza.
“Please allow us to fight, Oomomo-san!! We don’t care if we get seriously injured! After all… After all, we’ve been turning a blind eye to the pain you had to endure!!”
“Yo-You guys…”
I was shocked. I didn’t think the incident at the school would leave that big of an impact on them.
“…You idiots. I’m not going to let you get seriously hurt.”
A faint smile crossed my face as I dashed toward the enemy.
“I will take down the enemies!! If you feel like you’re in a tight spot, run away immediately! Don’t push yourself!! Don’t do anything reckless!!”
“Yes!!”
All of a sudden, the other students had banded together enough to respond to my words obediently.

Meanwhile, on the third floor of Gotsukiin High School, a girl was live-streaming the whole battle. She was the student who had been freed from bullying thanks to Oomomo.
“Oomomo-san, I will spread your bravery to the entire nation…! Sending a report to the police won’t do anything after all. This is the least I can do to help…!!”
Her channel only had about 10.000 subscribers, far fewer than Yuria’s. However, this situation had never happened before, with the police and the yakuza banding together to attack the school. Not to mention, the blaring emergency alert system. Everyone was looking for an answer on the internet.
And so, the number of her viewers had reached 100.000 in an instant.
