Chapter 22: The Lazy Introvert Shakes the Underworld
ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
Yes. My family had been anything but ordinary since a long time ago. I already had a vague idea of my family’s business when I was young. I still didn’t quite understand the details of it, but I often heard the words ‘yakuza’ and ‘crime’ mentioned by the adults around me. And my father was… The leader of the yakuza family. Not only did he have so many subordinates under him, but he was incredibly strong too. I had heard the stories of him single-handedly defeating a hundred enemies.
And apparently… I was even stronger than my father.
“Hahaha! You’ve got real talent, Ren. I know I’m way older than you, but I never expected I’d lose to a middle schooler.”
“Listen, Ren. I know you’re kind, but since you were born into this world as my son, it’s going to be hard for you to live an ordinary life. I’m sorry about that.”
Yes. I didn’t have any desire to fight for territory or to live on the other side of respectable society. I just wanted to live my life peacefully like every normal person and yet..
“Don’t falter! Our opponent is just a brat!!”
The yakuza around me started to attack me all at the same time. Unlike high school students like Onizuka and his henchmen, their movements were better. More coordinated. They were clearly on a different level from Onizuka and his henchmen. However, before their punch could hit me, I had attacked them first. One to the abdomen, one to the face and another to the neck.
“U-Ugh…”
“U-Unbelievable…!!”
Unable to keep up with my speed, the yakuza collapsed helplessly on the spot from my hit. I quickly snatched the knife from one of them and readied myself to face the remaining yakuza. Only five remaining. I had to admit, they had done their homework. They were clearly well-trained, but they had made a terrible mistake. They had let me grab their knife. They wouldn’t be able to last more than ten seconds against my father.
“You guys are lacking in actual combat experience. With that level of skill, aren’t you guys afraid of being looked down on by the other group?”
“Wha-What did you say…?!”
One of the yakuza glared at me, looking vexed.
“What would a brat like you know about actual combat experience?! You’re just a privileged rich kid with a good brain!”
“…Haaah…”
I sighed while deftly dodged the incoming attack as the yakuza ganged up on me. All five of them were equipped with metal bats and knives, but to be honest… Those weapons were nothing to be feared about in their hands. Not only my father had drilled me with harsh training since I was young, but I had actual combat experience from grinding my level in the dungeon too. The difference in our combat skill was unimaginable. In the dungeon, I often faced skeleton swordsman with swords and shields, and mages who could unleash powerful spells without chanting. To be honest, the difference between these monsters and these puny yakuza was like night and day.
“Get the woman! Aim for her first!”
“Ha. I knew you’d try that.”
I quickly turned around and carefully observed the remaining men. I assessed the whole battlefield, who would attack first, from where and what kind of attack. This method of assessing the situation and responding accordingly was something I had learned from my father. I then honed this assessment skill even further by doing dungeon explorations.
“Compared to monsters I’ve faced in the dungeons, you guys are like a baby.”
“What did you say?!”
“Did I stutter? I mean, you guys are losing against a so-called privileged rich kid with a good brain. If you’re losing against a kid, that means you guys are no better than a baby, right?”
I said as I swung the knife I had stolen to one of the yakuza. Killing them would create another future problem, so I opted to just slash their legs instead. They wouldn’t die, but this should be enough to prevent them from moving too much for a while.
“W-Wahhhh!!!”
“I can’t believe it…!! Why are we losing this badly against a brat like him?!”
Since that guy still had enough energy to talk back like that, I might as well try to force some information out of him.
“Oi.”
I walked over to the man who looked like the leader of their group and kicked him so I could look down on him.
“You guys are the ones who’ve been hiding Onizuka, right? Are you guys working with some politician or something?”
“Who-Who knows… I’ve got nothing to tell you—”
Thud!
Before the leader could finish his sentence, I stomped down on his head, hard.
“ARGHHHHHH!!”
“Answer my damn question. Or is it that your brain is on a baby level too, not just your body?”
“Hehehehe….!! You can talk big now, but your time is running out! Brother Jinba is on his way here! Once he’s here, you’re done for…!”
“Jinba…?”
Huh? I felt like I had heard that name before… Or maybe I was just imagining it?
“Hehehehe…!! Brother Jinba is insanely strong, you know? This is the end for the likes of you!”
The moment the leader said that, I could sense the presence of new people coming our way. Three in total. One of them was different though. That guy was on a whole different level than the other. Could it be… That guy was ‘Brother Jinba’? But, his presence… If I wasn’t mistaken, his presence felt oddly similar to the man who had raised me in my father’s place. He had a scary face, but he was really kind. Hence why all of his subordinates really respected him.
The backup arrived a few seconds later and sure enough, the ‘Jinba’ they were talking about was the same ‘Jinba’ who had raised me.
“Hey there, Jinba. Your face is still as scary as usual, huh?”
“Huh…?”
Jinba was an old man in his 50s with an eyepatch over his left eye and a cross-shaped scar on his right cheek. He scanned the surroundings before he finally fixed his gaze on me.
“Why is Ren-sama here…? Wait, don’t tell me…!!”
“That’s right. These guys picked a fight with me. I believe I can leave the cleanup to you?”
“Wha-Wha-Wha-Wha-Wha-Wha-Wha-Wha-What?!”
Jinba’s face twisted in horror as if his whole world was crumbling down. He quickly rushed over to the leader of the group. He grabbed the man’s collar and lifted him up easily as he glared at him.
“You fool!! Do you even know who you’re fighting against?! There’s now ay you could win!! You’re going to get yourselves killed!!”
“Huh…? What…?”
Jinba gritted his teeth, looking deeply frustrated.
“You still don’t get it?! This is Ren Oomomo-sama, the son of Boss Kamisuyama! You’re fighting against the Bloody Silencer himself!!”
