Chapter 16 :It’s Too Late to Try to Curry Favor With Me Now

“…What are you guys doing?”

I voiced my confusion to my classmate, who was still bowing at me. I was notorious as an introvert (for all the wrong reasons) at school, so why were these guys bowing to me?

“No-No! Thi-This is the least we should’ve done to Oomomo-san!”

Then, one of my classmates extended both hands toward me while still bowing to me.

As an introvert, I was at the bottom of the school social hierarchy. I was well aware of that. Moreover, I had been bullied by Onizuka up until yesterday. My social standing at school should be the lowest among the lowest, so… This was definitely odd. No one in school would bow their heads to me.

In other words, they were afraid they would be the next ones getting burned in flames depending on my mood. That must be the reason why they suddenly tried to curry my favor.

“Get lost. Don’t try to curry favor with me. I don’t want anything to do with you guys.”

“I told you to get lost, didn’t I? Didn’t you hear me?”

I glared at them and my classmates immediately straightened their backs in fear. 

“M-My apologies…!!”

They bowed deeply at me once more before scurrying away from me. 

“Haaah…”

They made me sick. They had been ignoring all the bullying I had to bear through before, but now that the tables were turning, they immediately changed their sides like this. People like them couldn’t be trusted. Well, not that I had any intention to trust them in the first place. 

“Absolutely revolting. Good riddance.”

But, well… As an ordinary high school student, there was no merit to be reaped if I were to stir up trouble here. I guess I should just turn a blind eye on them since they were smart enough to leave me be after I told them to. 

“Haah… Good grief.”

Sighing deeply, I started walking to my classroom again. Before today, I was just one of the many mob characters that had no redeeming qualities whatsoever. No one would bother to look my way twice. But today, I could feel their eyes on me. The students were afraid of me. No, not just the students. The teachers too.

The school was still flooded with criticism. The teachers must have been working overtime to deal with it all. True enough, even my homeroom teacher looked haggard. However, since the teachers had been turning a blind eye to Onizuka’s bullying too, I really couldn’t feel any sympathy toward them.

And so, I continued to attend my classes like usual today, completely ignoring everyone who tried to curry favor with me.

However, considering I had to wait until school was over and took the train to get here… It would’ve been natural for the other explorers to reach the Orichalcum Slime first before me.
