Chapter 11 : The Experience of a Max Leveler Outside the Dungeon

“Hoaaaaam.”
Morning came and I left my house at the usual time. I was on my way to school as I let out a big yawn. There were other students heading to school around me. Most of them were walking in groups, but of course, not me. I didn’t have any friends after all. I never felt lonely though. In fact, I felt my life had been a breeze so far because I didn’t need to deal with the trouble that came from forming a relationship with other people.
However…
“Hm?”
Something felt off. I had the feeling that someone was following me from behind. Something with malicious intention. The telltale of something intent to hurt me was almost tangible in the air. This was something that I had always felt when exploring the dungeon. I had never experienced this outside the dungeon yet. Of course, no monsters would appear outside the dungeon and the benefit from my max level didn’t apply here either. But still, the instinct and the experiences that I had accumulated in the dungeon still came with me. In fact, I had survived countless near death situations thanks to them.
“…I see.”
I decided to enter a deserted back alley a little further ahead. Not only this deserted alley was practically a maze with many twists and turns, but the putrid smell lingering in the air made people avoid this passage. Especially the students of Gotsukiin High School. No ordinary high school students would come here. I didn’t want to take a long detour. It would be too troublesome. Hence why I decided to come here. This place was the shortest option and even the locals would avoid walking through here.
The ominous presence was coming closer. That could only mean one thing. Onizuka and his henchmen were coming to me.
“Oi.”
And sure enough, as soon as I stepped into the alley, someone grabbed my shoulder.
“Haa…”
I stopped in my tracks and let out a deep sigh without turning around.
“Onizuka… And then there’s Yamazaki, Motoi and Sawada. What exactly are you guys here for?”
I said their names without turning around.
“Huh…? Ho-How did you kno-…?”
“Well, your presence is so loud. I can’t help but notice it.”
I said so as I slowly turned around. Sure enough, all the four people I had just named were standing there. The hostility was clearly written all over their faces. All of them were glaring at me. The air in the ally was getting tense.
“Huh??? I don’t get it. Stop talking nonsense. You’re just Oomomo! Don’t you dare get all cocky with me, you hear me?”
“…”
SWISH!!
I remained silent and Onizuka suddenly grabbed a handful of my hair.
“Because of you…. My future is ruined! What are you going to do about it, huh?”
“Why are you asking me? How should I know? It’s your future, not mine. Figure it out yourself.”
I glared back at him and it seemed this small act of defiance from me took him by surprise because Onizuka flinched just for a moment. He quickly regained his composure, but I decided to take this as an opportunity to continue talking back at him.
“Don’t you dare get the wrong idea. The only reason I’ve been following your whim was because it was just too much trouble to resist. Nothing more, nothing less.”
“Huh???”
Onizuka and his entourage exchanged glances for a few seconds upon hearing those words coming from my mouth.
“Gyahahahahhahahaa!! What are you trying to act tough for? Don’t you remember? You’ve given me nearly 500.000 yen so far!”
“And so what…? Oh. Right. My apologies. 500.000 yen is just a small change for you, but I guess that’s not the case for you. 500.000 yen must be a fortune for someone like you, huh?”
“Wha-What did you say?!??! Do you forget how many times I’ve grinded you to the ground?!”
“You mean those puny punches? What a joke. Taking on your pathetic hits is all I need to do to keep my peaceful life afloat. That is also another small price to pay for me.”
My words must have really pissed him off since Onizuka’s face turned really tense. He leaned close to me, glaring at me.
“The heck? You wanna have a go at me?”
“Now, what are you talking about? You were the one that followed me. That means you’re the one who came looking for a fight.”
Up until now, Onizuka would only take the money and leave. That was enough to satisfy him. If I were to fight him back at school, things would get too troublesome. The teachers wouldn’t leave me be and I honestly couldn’t be bothered to deal with it. I could avoid all that trouble just by giving him 10.000 yen. 10.000 yen was indeed a small price to pay. That was how I had always dealt with him, but now… These guys were acting differently than usual. They were truly coming here to beat me down to pulp.
Of course, I wasn’t kind enough to let them hit me if there was no benefit I could take out of it. Besides, we weren’t at school yet. No teachers would come to this place.
“You shitty bastard!! Know your place, you damn outcast!!”
Finally losing his patience, Onizuka swung his fist at me with everything he had. I didn’t dodge it. I just let his fist reach my cheek as it was.
“…Hm? Is that all you’ve got?”
“…..What?”
Onizuka looked dumbfounded as I just stood there with a defiant smile on my face. My hands were still in my pocket. His fist wasn’t even enough to make me flinch.
“Sorry, but I’m not good at holding back. You guys better don’t blame me for this. Blame yourself.”
So I said before I delivered a powerful punch to Onizuka’s forehead. As I had mentioned before, the benefit from status didn’t apply outside of the dungeon, but the fighting skills I had honed inside the dungeon were still ingrained in my body. It was a merciless hit, effectively designed to inflict the maximum damage.
“Ugh…!”
Onizuka let out a pathetic cry as he was sent flying backward.
“…Huh?”
“Wha-what the hell just happened…?”
His henchmen raised their voices in shock and I slowly pointed my index finger at them.
“Next.”
“…”
His henchmen gulped nervously.
