Chapter 10: Helping People in Trouble

About a week had passed since I transferred to a high school in Tokyo. So far, even though this was a chastity-reversed world, nothing weird had happened at all, and I had been able to live a normal school life. As I muttered that while walking down the hallway, I spotted a female student carrying a huge stack of notebooks in both arms. Judging by the color of her tie, she seemed to be a third-year. “Good morning, Senpai.”

“Uun… uun… eh? Ah, ah, good morning? Um, you are…?”

“I’m a second-year. My name is Uegami. If you like, I can help carry those notebooks.”

“Eh? H-help? You? But you’re a boy, right?”

When I said that, Senpai looked extremely surprised. I didn’t think I’d said anything that shocking, though.

“Yes. Is that maybe not allowed?”

“N-no, it’s not that at all, but… I mean, I can’t possibly make a boy do chores like this…”

“No, no, when someone’s in trouble we help each other out. I want to be useful to you too, Senpai. So here, please let me carry some of those notebooks.”

“Ah… O-okay. Thank you. Then… Could you help me carry them?”

“Yes, understood. Let me help you.”

“Mm, thank you. Then… here.”

I received half of the notebooks from Senpai. Even half of them were fairly heavy. It must have been quite tough for her to carry them all by herself.

“U-um, are you okay? They’re not too heavy, right?”

“I’m perfectly fine. So, where should I take these notebooks?”

“Mm, then… Could you help me bring them to the third-year classroom? It’s on the third floor, so it’s a bit far—are you sure that’s okay?”

“Yes, of course it’s fine. I’ll follow behind you, Senpai.”

“Y-yeah. Thank you. This way.”

And so, I followed behind Senpai and carried the notebooks to the third-year classroom.

A few minutes later. We arrived at the third-year classroom, and together we dropped the notebooks onto the teacher’s desk with a thud.

“Phew, thank you so much for helping me carry them all the way here, Uegami-kun. Fufu, you’re such a kind boy.”

“No, no, I only did what anyone should. But Senpai, you’re a girl, yet the teacher pushed such heavy notebook-carrying onto you all by yourself. That must’ve been rough.”

“No, no, not at all. Since there are so few boys, chores like this are usually our job as girls. So actually, this is the first time in my life I’ve been helped by a boy.”

“Eh? Really? Ah… but I guess that makes sense…”

Hearing that from Senpai surprised me a little, but when I thought about it, this world had an overwhelmingly small number of boys. So maybe boys were treated as much more important compared to the original real world.

But doesn’t that mean… the girls in this world are the ones stuck doing all the chores and having a hard time?

And from how she worded it, it seemed like the boys of this world generally didn’t help girls who were stuck doing chores. That felt kind of sad. I had lived in the countryside for a long time, so I always had the mentality that everyone—old, young, male, female—should help each other when someone was in trouble. The girl was crouched in the hallway, letting out a painful groan. Wondering what was wrong, I calmly observed her first. She was wearing her gym uniform. She looked like she had a light sheen of sweat all over. So maybe she had just finished morning practice for her club. And since she was wearing short-sleeved, short-pants gym clothes, a lot of skin was exposed. Yeah, her smooth, healthy legs were completely visible—very easy on the eyes.

…Wait, no, this is NOT the time to be calmly analyzing that.

I hurried over to the crouching girl and immediately spoke to her.

“U-um, what’s wrong? Are you feeling sick?”

“U… uu… eh? Ah, y-yes… I’m okay, Senpai…”

The girl weakly lifted her head. And from the color of my tie, she identified me as a second-year and immediately called me Senpai. Which meant she was a first-year. At least she seemed conscious, so I felt relieved.

“Ah, good. So you’re conscious. So what happened? Are you feeling sick?”

“Ah… Y-yes… We had morning club practice for the first time in a while and after it ended, while I was walking down the hallway… I suddenly got dizzy… ugh…”

She explained her condition to me. Her face definitely looked a bit pale.

“I see. Then it’s best to head to the nurse’s office. Alright, I’ll lend you my shoulder—let’s go together.”

“Eh? N-no, b-but… I’m all sweaty, so that’s dirty… A-and I might smell too…”

“I don’t care about that at all. When someone’s in trouble, we help each other. So come on, don’t hesitate—let’s go.”

“Eh… Ah, y-yes, understood… Th-then… I’ll borrow your shoulder…”

“Yeah.”

So I lent the girl my shoulder and took her to the nurse’s office. The school nurse examined her right away. The diagnosis was that she had exercised without eating breakfast, causing a lack of energy that led to dizziness. The girl ate an energy jelly packet and was told to rest on the bed for a while.

“Th-thank you so much, Senpai. I’m really grateful that you brought me to the nurse’s office. I’ll never forget this kindness…!”

“Haha, it’s fine, really. I’m just glad you’re okay. Make sure you watch your health and do your best in club activities from now on.”

“Y-yes, I will…! Th-thank you so much for being so kind to me!”

“Yeah, see you.”

After receiving her words of gratitude, I left the nurse’s office. Yeah… I was really glad she hadn’t suffered a serious injury or anything like that.
