Chapter 28 – Entering the Yuzuki Route?
She was a gal with striking golden brown hair. Her face was full of make up, and I really didn’t like flashy looks.
Her uniform’s buttons were left undone, exposing her collarbone, yet she was still wearing her blazer tightly, making it hard to tell whether she was hot or cold.
However, judging by her haphazardly worn ribbon and indoor shoes, she seemed to be a first-year student like us.
“Oh, sorry.”
I quickly apologized.
In this case, it was definitely my fault. It was obvious to anyone, so I had no choice but to apologize.
“That’s about it.”
With that brief statement, the gal turned on her heels and returned to where she was. Was it just my imagination that her sharp gaze seemed to be directed at Yuzuki as she spun around?
More importantly, she had found out that I was talking to Yuzuki. I had been pretty relaxed lately, so I could hardly blame anyone for that.
I wondered if that gal would tell someone, but I also thought that maybe I was overthinking it.
Surprisingly, no one cares about other people’s social relationships. Especially since I’m just a plain guy they’ve never talked to.
“Shall we head home today?”
“Are we done already?”
“Well, there’s not much time left, and it feels a bit uncomfortable staying here today.”
I looked at the clock and it was almost five o’clock.
When I’m reading, I feel the time fly by, but recently I feel the same way when I’m talking to Yuzuki.
It seems that this moment has become precious to me, without me even realizing it.
“Yeah, let’s go home then.”
“Yeah.”
As I was getting ready to go home, Yuzuki looked at me with a puzzled look on her face for some reason.
“What’s wrong?”
“No, it’s just that you easily accepted going home together. Normally, you’d refuse.”
Ah, I see, I understand.
Without stopping my preparations and keeping my eyes on my bag, I started speaking as if nothing had happened.
“I guess there’s no point worrying about it too much.”
Still, it would be troublesome if she treated me normally in the classroom, so I’d like her to keep things moderate, or at least to a certain extent. But if this is the case, maybe there’s no need to be so concerned.
“All of a sudden?”
“Yeah.”
I could see how that would be her reaction. After all, I had been so resistant before and had suddenly changed my mind.
With that in mind, I decided to gather my things and leave the library. As I passed by, I briefly made eye contact with the library committee girl, but I quickly looked away. Why do gal types have such intense gazes? I couldn’t help but look away.
Just as I was about to leave…
“Hey.”
A voice rang out and my body shook in surprise. There were three of us here, and Yuzuki had already left the library before me. The voice was clearly that of a girl, and the gal was obviously not on a phone call.
“Huh?”
It was obvious that it was me who had been spoken to, so I stopped and timidly turned to look at the gal.
The gal was sitting wearily in the reception chair, holding her smartphone in one hand, and looking up at me with a blank expression. It was rare to see such an uninviting upward glance.
“Are you dating Kotobuki?”
She asked me in a monotone voice.
“We’re not dating.”
It wasn’t a lie, so I answered right away.
I was really flustered when she called out to me, but I just answered truthfully, so it was no big deal.
The gal then responded with a disinterested “Hmm.”
If you’re not interested, can I go home now?
“But you two seemed close.”
“Well, friends can be that close too, right?”
She still seemed uninterested when I said that. But her gaze remained fixed on me.
“At the very least, I’ve never seen her having such a fun conversation with a guy before.”
“Is that so?”
My interest was piqued by what the gal was saying, so I couldn’t help but ask her. She nodded, looking down at her smartphone.
Yuzuki is often with her female friends in the classroom. She must have been confessed to many times.
I’ve seen her talking to boys too. I hadn’t really paid attention to Yuzuki’s expressions during those times, but I guessed that the gal’s point was whether Yuzuki looked like she was having fun or not.
Huh…
Wait, how does this gal know that?
I don’t know my classmates well enough to match their names with their faces, but I can at least tell if they were classmates or not.
This gal is definitely not a classmate.
In other words, she’s in a different class from me and Yuzuki, so how does she know so much about Yuzuki?
“Kotobuki and I went to the same middle school. We didn’t talk much back then, and we weren’t really close to begin with.”
Seeing through my suspicion, the gal answered before I could ask the question.
She must be the type who can anticipate what others are thinking and get ahead of the conversation. She sure doesn’t look like it from her appearance.
“I see.”
It was during Yuzuki’s middle school days.
I wonder what she was like. But hearing it from someone who wasn’t Yuzuki felt, in a way, insincere.
“I was just curious. You can go now.”
“Oh, okay.”
As I was pondering what to do, I was given permission, so I decided to leave the library.
Just as I put my hand on the doorknob, I heard a voice from behind me say, “Oh, that’s right.”
“What is it?”
I turned around.
“What’s your name?”
“…Kirishima.”
It was two seconds later that I realized I shouldn’t have given my name.
It’s not wise to easily share personal information. You never know how it might be misused.
Especially around strangers.
“Got it.”
This time, the gal seemed to signal it was all right now as she glanced down at her smartphone. So, I decided to leave the library.
When I stepped into the hallway, Yuzuki was waiting for me with her arms crossed, looking in a bad mood. I wondered if she realized how her large chest was emphasized by her arms crossed under it.
“You took your time, didn’t you?”
“Yeah, we were talking for a bit.”
“That Hirano-san?”
“Hirano-san, huh? I heard you two went to the same middle school?”
When I said that, Yuzuki replied with a vague “Yeah, well.” She then immediately added, “We hardly ever talked though.”
“What were you talking about? As far as I know, Ao-kun and her had no connections.”
There was a certain pressure in her tone.
“Nothing much. She just asked if I was dating Yuzuki.”
“What? Can you tell me more?”
She uncrossed her arms, and as Yuzuki closed the distance between us, her eyes sparkled without changing her expression.
“There’s not much to tell. She just thought we might be dating since she never saw you talking happily with a guy during middle school.”
“And what did you say, Ao-kun? Depending on your choice here, there’s a possibility of diving straight into my route.”
“I denied it. We’re not dating.”
“…I knew it.”
Come on, don’t suddenly get so down.
You could have predicted that I’d say that in the first place.
