The Villainous Uncle in the Adult Game Gets Unusually High Praise from the Heroines - Chapter 26
“…Huh?”
Sakurako-chan frowned as soon as she returned home, about two hours after Yozuki-chan had left.
“Is something wrong?”
“No, it’s just…”
After tilting her head for a moment, she moved to the living room and brought her face close to the sofa. When she raised her head, she had an expression of certainty.
“There’s no mistake—Yozuki Kongo was here, wasn’t she?”
“What?”
How did she know? She had leaned in close, but could it really be that she noticed just from the scent? Was she a police dog?
“It smells like Yozuki-san.”
“Can you really tell?”
“Kind of. Plus, it was just a hunch.”
“A hunch…”
Impressive, this intuition. Or maybe Sakurako-chan was just amazing. She placed her hand on her hip, contemplating for a moment, then asked me.
“So, why did Yozuki-san come to the house?”
“Oh, well. She wanted someone to read her novel, or rather, she wanted feedback, so she came over.”
“Her novel?”
“Yeah, it was a fantasy novel.”
“Fantasy? I thought Yozuki-san usually wrote modern stuff.”
“Yeah, I thought that too. Maybe she was just in the mood for it?”
“So it was a matter of mood… Hm, anyway, now I understand.”
Sakurako-chan shook her head as if to say “good grief”, adopting a demeanor as if she fully understood. She was always such an insightful girl. It was really helpful, saving me the trouble of explaining myself.
“But,” Sakurako-chan then wore a rather suspicious expression. “When did you become friends with Yozuki-san?”
“I thought you’d only met once.”
“Ah, actually. When we met before, we exchanged email addresses. After that, we exchanged emails a few times.”
“Email addresses?”
Sakurako-chan looked even more confused.
“How did it end up like that?”
“Well, I’m not sure. Thinking back, I still don’t know how it happened.”
“Hmm…”
She lowered her gaze slightly. Her expression became hard to read, and she seemed upset or perhaps a bit frightening. What should I do in this situation? What would be the right thing to say? I wasn’t sure what she was thinking, so I felt that anything I said might not be the right answer.
“I guess it’s fine.”
After a while, she lifted her face, showing an expression I couldn’t quite decipher. It was a bit unnerving, not knowing what was on her mind.
“Anyway, Take-san, please inform me in advance if something like this happens. I was very surprised.”
“Oh, okay. Sure.”
“As for Yozuki-san, well, sometimes things like that happen. Take-san, you—”
“I what?”
“No, it’s nothing. Let’s end this conversation here. I’m hungry, and I want to have dinner.”
“Oh, right.”
I nodded and moved to the kitchen. Probably to help with serving the food, Sakurako-chan followed along.
“What’s for today?”
“Today, it’s cold Chinese noodles. The sauce is homemade, in a way similar to oil soba.”
“That sounds exciting.”
Sakurako-chan beamed with a smile. The earlier tense atmosphere seemed to have vanished, and I felt very relieved.
“Good grief, I can’t let my guard down for a second.”
“Huh?”
“No, it’s nothing.”
It seemed like she’d said something, but Sakurako-chan shook her head, indicating that it was nothing. Well, if she insisted, then it must have truly been nothing.
“I’m hungry, so let’s eat quickly!”
“Yeah, let’s.”
