Chapter 80: Wednesday of the Bloodweeks
“What’s the purpose? It’s you guys who started this without reason.”
What does she mean by the order is disturbed?
If it refers to a deviation in the story, that shift already occurred long ago when the protagonist was replaced.
If it’s about the order of the academy, then it’s purely the result of Castor’s own doing, I merely restored what was twisted.
Either way, she’s confusing.
“I don’t know what you’re asking about because your question is too vague, but if you have something to say, come out and speak directly. That’s your answer.”
The gift she brings is hardly a gift at all.
She probably wants to assert that they are a different organization from those who are after our lives, but to me, they are all the same and thus enemies.
“If you’re going to bring something, bring the head of Belda von Slash, not some weakling’s.”
Right now, the person obstructing us is the young lady of the Slash family.
I can assert this because her actions, using her family’s status to manipulate things from behind, are very similar to tactics used in the game.
“I’m not allowed to do that.”
While staring intently at me, Wednesday continues,
“If you truly intend to do nothing, if you only want to live a peaceful school life, then the Pentagram and Slash families have no plans to interfere with you.”
“What about the Ignite family?”
Until now, the Ignite family has been heavily involved in the attacks.
And the guy Wednesday easily killed was probably an assassin sent by the Ignite family.
“Your employers might be Pentagram and Slash, but the weakling you killed belongs to Ignite, right?”
“You noticed well.”
“Pathetic.”
They gather weaklings who can’t win, and why is there such a difference in quality?
Maybe it’s because they come from a lineage deeply involved in finance, so they pay well?
“I don’t know much about the Ignite family. They are a minor ducal house that can’t get involved in the monarchy and only plots sneaky things behind the scenes.”
So that’s how the Ignite family is treated behind the scenes.
Since Patricia caused more chaos to ‘this’ order than I am, her and Jelasis’s study abroad might be the result of pressures like those I’m facing now.
After all,
It’s impossible for someone who’s not the main character of the story to act like one.
In the game world, it was possible to head towards a happy ending because Vorsea gran Cascade, the school principal, was supporting from the shadows.
That old man is from a ducal family, an educator who raises nobles, and a hero recognized as a sage for his skills.
He holds a significant position in this kingdom.
“Aren’t flies the most annoying?”
“Then, we’ll apply pressure from Bloodweek’s side.”
The conversation seemed to be moving smoothly, and although it felt slightly odd, it was fine as long as it didn’t disturb school life.
“Hey, can I ask you something?”
“Yes?”
I turned to ask Wednesday one last thing.
“What does the Pentagram family want to do with me about the Castor issue?”
“Are you planning to apologize?”
“I have no intention of apologizing.”
That was his own doing, after all.
“He couldn’t join the student council because his grades dropped, and he lost a duel he challenged on his own—probably deserved to die.”
It seems that people involved in the underworld share my view and think there’s nothing that can be done about him.
“Horrible parents, huh?”
“In a world of schemes and plots, survival is impossible for the mediocre. The ‘von’ name carries no prestige in blood; everything is earned through effort.”
If that’s their approach to education, it makes sense why Castor is so desperate.
In the game, convincing both families with a valid reason leads to a happy ending.
“Then—”
Since I had no more questions, I quietly watched her leave. As Wednesday took off into the air, she said on her departure,
“Finally, a message from both families, the unveiling is this month. If the blood of Brave stays quiet, look forward to the miracle’s return.”
“Maybe I’ll get you to tell me more about that.”
“!?”
I quickly activated a barrier and leaped into the air above Wednesday, landing right in front of her with another barrier.
Hanging upside down on the barrier, I started talking to her surprised face.
“If the Pentagram family isn’t mad about Castor, then why is the headmaster going to all this trouble to negotiate?”
That’s what Alicia said during my embarrassing video incident.
The headmaster is so caught up with the Castor issue that he can’t deal with it right away.
So, it wouldn’t be wrong to say there’s another problem, right?
That’s what this slight discomfort is about.
“A miracle’s return? Do you think you can just drop such a mysterious phrase and run away? What are they trying to do while keeping me busy?”
If Vorsea is acting on his own, it must be about Mariana.
He personally told me to protect her because he knows something.
The old man kept his word and gave Castor a harsh punishment, so I’ll work behind the scenes to balance that out.
“It’s none of your business. If you stay quiet, your safety at school is guaranteed.”
“Do you think I’d trust someone who sounds just like me?”
Those are words from someone who wouldn’t think twice about killing a neutral party.
Including me, that’s not worth trusting.
So, what should I do?
Either take some collateral or keep fighting until one of us dies.
“Safety isn’t something someone else can guarantee. The moment you let someone else have the power over your life and death, you’re as good as dead.”
You know this, right, if you’re dealing with shady underground types?
“So, the moment I came here, you had control over whether I live or die? This is what they mean by ‘Don’t mess with the Brave, or you’ll be cursed.'”
“Who came up with that saying?”
“Golden Week.”
Suddenly, being told about the long holiday almost made me fall over.
“There must be a Silver Week too.”
“Typical Brave, you know it well.”
Yeah, they exist.
Maybe the special character who wears a mask and appears on Friday the 13th is part of their group too.
“Is the guy who shows up on Friday the 13th called Friday?”
“To know that Friday, how much have you researched about Bloodweek?”
“Ah, no… never mind, yeah.”
It feels like the developers created these guys on a whim while setting up the game, just for fun.
Well, does that apply to me too?
No, why was I even born? While thinking this, I remind myself that this isn’t a game, this is the real world.
“To know information I’m unaware of, you truly are Brave. It seems I still have a long way to go before I’m recognized as ‘the Shadow’…”
“Oh, you’re still alive?”
Edward rose elegantly into the sky.
Despite his elegant pose, he was covered in blood and breathing heavily.
Trying so hard to hide his uncool side is actually pretty uncool.
I better watch out for that.
Forcing his breath to stabilize, Edward announces in his elegant pose.
“Normally, I’d want to fight… but if the Barbarian chooses to spare you, I’ll give you the choice. Either spill the information here and be killed, or quietly join our side and become a shadow.”
He just goes on saying whatever he wants.
“Of course, if we make a blood pact, I won’t treat you badly.”
“What exactly is a blood pact?”
Since I didn’t know the term, I asked Edward.
“It’s a contract signed with blood imbued with magical power. It’s an ancient oath that affects the soul, passed down through the royal family. I read about it in the forbidden library.”
So, there’s such a thing? The royal family can even use devil-like magic, unbelievable.
And he talks about the royal family, but he clearly isn’t trying to hide it, right?
The mask he wears is only slightly different from those the student council wears; it’s practically the same design.
A guy with a bald head and a mask, behaving elegantly—ask a hundred people, and all hundred will say it’s him.
“If it’s two against one, I lose. It’s normal to side with those who can survive. But if I accept the blood pact as the bald guy suggests, I’m doomed either way.”
That makes sense, I can’t say anything else.
If it’s someone with enough authority, it’s certain they’ve set things up to prevent betrayal.
While shrugging, Wednesday continues speaking.
“If both options lead to death, then I have no choice but to desperately resist and bet on the slight chance of surviving. The bald guy is injured; it’s just Brave left, so if I resist with all my might, I might manage to escape alive.”
“Fufu, I have another proposal for you.”
Edward said with a smirk, clearly amused.
“I can overwrite it. I have the authority! Hahaha! cough cough, my innards are still damaged, but even spitting blood must be done elegantly if one is to be a shadow, guhooh.”
Edward then dramatically spat out more blood.
What a mess.
