The Villainess Who Was Dumped Got Married into My Family, a Mob Noble from the Frontier, and Turns Out, She's an Amazing Capable Wife? - Chapter 02: About Lady Alicia
Chapter 02: About Lady Alicia
My name is Ragna Vel Brave, and I was born as the third son of the Brave family.
At the age of three, I realized that I had been reincarnated.
Turns out, I was reborn into the world of an otome game I used to play in my previous life.
But reality was harsh.
Despite being in a world from an otome game, I found myself learning how to kill monsters and people at the tender age of three, in a world filled with violence.
Even in such a world, I managed to find a little bit of hope.
According to the story, the capital would be engulfed in war due to fierce battles.
Or rather, events like monsters going on a rampage would cause unbelievable chaos in the Brave territory.
My only hope was the fact that I was the third son.
As the third son of a noble, I had no obligations and would eventually be exiled.
That’s why I had a dream.
I dreamed of becoming an adventurer with nothing but my trained body, traveling the world.
I wasn’t the protagonist of the story, nor was I even a background character at the academy.
I was someone far removed from the progression of the story, both geographically and in every other sense.
Because of that, I truly believed I could enjoy this otherworldly life.
“Young master Ragna, you must get dressed.”
“…sleeping.”
When I was sulking on the bed, Sebas came to my room with his subordinate, another servant.
“Those who are sleeping don’t say they’re sleeping. What a funny thing to say in your sleep.”
“Ugh! Do I have to? Just handle it without me.”
“Even though her engagement was broken off, she’s still from a ducal family. You have to show some respect.”
“Ugh.”
I groaned, as I was forcefully dragged out of bed and made to change into stiff, formal attire.
I really don’t like these clothes; they’re so hard to move in, you know?
If things had gone as planned, I’d be leaving home by now to enjoy exploring dungeons.
So, why is this happening?
Just managing the lord’s duties while attending school is tough enough.
And now, joining the school mid-term pretty much guarantees I’ll be on my own.
I wasn’t expecting a duke’s daughter to come here to marry.
I do know a bit about her, though.
Her name is Alicia Gran Oldwood.
She’s a beauty with silver hair that looks almost translucent, tall and busty, and on top of that, she’s really smart.
Despite being labeled the villainess, she’s not bad at her studies or a dropout; she’s actually a cunning genius.
Of course, she was given elite education from a young age to become a prince’s consort, so in a way, she’s somewhat like me but in a different aspect.
But her personality is the worst.
She has this elitist attitude, remembering how she yelled at the protagonist, saying things like “Know your place as a commoner” or “Even if our status doesn’t matter within the school, learn the difference between nobles and commoners once you step outside,” in such a furious voice.
She had a wide variety of bullying phrases too, and I wondered how she could say such things, but then, what can you do?
Nobles have their pride, and the status of their family is absolute.
Since I come from a world with different norms, I see commoners and everyone else as equals.
In the end, we’re all just flesh when we die, right?
However, in this world, nobles value their traditions and prestige highly, and it’s unthinkable for a commoner to marry into royalty.
Even in Japan, where I lived in my past life, marrying into the Imperial Family required someone acceptable to the public.
In the story’s finale, there’s a twist where the protagonist’s lineage turns out to be a significant, lost bloodline that nobody knew about at the beginning.
This revelation flips everyone’s perspective, triggering the tumultuous history of the capital. In a way, the duke’s daughter could be seen as a victim of these common plot developments.
“Sebas,”
“Yes, young master?”
“Born into a high-ranking ducal family and raised solely for the crown prince, and now she’s been sent to our busy Brave territory. What’s that supposed to achieve?”
“It seems like a way to get rid of a problem and make an example of her. I heard her engagement was broken off. They probably decided it was Lady Alicia’s fault for not being able to keep the prince interested, especially after causing a duel and then losing spectacularly.”
“Hey, are we being used for this problem-solving and example-setting?”
“Well, the Brave territory does have a high mortality rate.”
Sebas said, as if it was the most natural thing in the world, making me wonder if he really was our butler.
“Think about it, Young master Ragna.”
“What?”
“The Duke is well aware of the Brave family’s situation. Despite how things turned out, this has strengthened our connection with the ducal family, which could lead to significant support. Only the previous lord had shown us favor, and since you, the surviving third son, are taking over, some have refused support. This engagement could be a blessing. It might even give you more time for your studies and could very well be the only way out for the desperate Brave family.”
“You call it despair?”
“I’m quite serious about it. Everyone who survived is working hard to keep going, so you should do your best too, young master.”
“Ugh.”
Thinking about it, maybe it’s not as bad as it seems, but it’s still hell.
But, you know? Her personality is the worst.
Even if it’s unavoidable that she looks down on the protagonist as a commoner, the fact that she harshly bullies her to put her in her place, gets her engagement broken off, gets sent to the frontier, and still stands in the protagonist’s way time and time again with hatred and whatnot, that’s just how the game’s villainess was.
Caught in hatred, she eventually makes a deal with a demon and turns into a non-human form to carry out her revenge, and at this rate, our family will get dragged into this mess.
I remember Alicia’s ending from playing the game in my previous life.
It’s nothing but ruin waiting to happen.
And, by the way, I didn’t appear in that game at all. Not even the Brave family.
That means I’m probably killed off by Alicia somewhere.
That’s way too dangerous.
“After spending about a month here, the lady will return to the academy with you, young master. As a man of the Brave family, please make sure to escort her properly.”
“Ah, yeah…”
I felt like I was about to collapse under the weight of despair.
Going back to the academy with a girl whose character has been twisted by turmoil feels almost like torture.
I was planning to attend the academy just to secure connections for the survival of the Brave family and to appease the nobility, but now, it seems there’s no benefit at all.
“UWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!”
“That’s not allowed. You can’t just go to the dungeon to blow off steam right now.”
Sebas said, catching me as I tried to dash off.
He then took me down and put me in a joint lock.
As expected from a butler serving the Brave family.
Thanks to their early training, the kids of the Brave family are a handful even for adults.
That’s why Sebas, who has been looking after such children, is so strong.
“I know what you’re thinking, young master. I won’t allow you to take the lady to the dungeon either. If an accident were to happen, it could truly be the end of the Brave family.”
“Yeah…”
I wondered how I could avoid this fate.
I wanted to escape to the dungeon right away.
It’s easier to deal with enemy soldiers and monsters than to deal with a woman.
Ironically, that’s how I’ve been raised.
“It’s about time.”
Saying, Sebas pulled me to my feet and dusting off my clothes before leading me out.
Born as the third son of a noble, in a position completely unrelated to an otome game, I was supposed to freely enjoy a fantasy world of swords and magic.
“How did it come to thisssssssssss!?”
We may all be equal in the face of death, but in life there will always be differences.
