- Chapter 82- After Story 2: Ghost
“Hey, aren’t you Hikari Riku?” The said person looked up from his laptop screen and found a familiar face standing there while smiling at him.
“Sakura?” Riku got up from the table as he realized it was his ex-classmate from high school.
The raven-haired girl giggled as she said, “I thought you wouldn’t recognize me.”
“Your voice is something I remember. Well, sit down.” Riku invited and the other one sat down opposite him.
The cafe was mostly empty around this hour that’s why their conversation was the only sound that profoundly resonated in the place,
“How are you doing these days? I haven’t heard from you after graduation.” Sakura asked after she rested the shopping bags on the seat beside her.
“Well, apart from Ichi I have been mostly isolated past these few years,” Riku said after he gestured towards the waiter.
“What would you like to have? It’s on me.” Riku offered which made Sakura raise her brows,
“Well, I would take up your offer then….” Turning towards the waiter she said, “One strawberry smoothie and some nachos with sour cream dip.”
The waiter turned towards Riku, “Anything for you, sir?”
“Just a black coffee.”
Hearing Riku’s order, Sakura pouted, “If you order so little, it would make me feel like a glutton.”
Riku chuckled at the silly remark before he added, “And a no-sugar muffin.”
The waiter also smiled before he nodded and walked away.
“So Sakura, are you working anywhere?” The said girl sighed and shook her head,
“I didn’t get any placement from the college to my liking. I have been unemployed since last year. ” She sighed once again and slumped even more in her seat.
Riku consoled her, “You will get one soon.”
“WEEEEELLLLL~Forget about that….” Propping her elbows on the table and resting her face on her hands, Sakura asked with her brows raised, “Do you know about a rumor that used to surround you back in high school? I was talking about it to Chinatsu yesterday and I found you today. What a coincidence.”
Riku was taken aback by the sudden shift of conversation but since she seemed so eager to tell him, he urged her, “No. What was it?”
Riku indeed had heard some of the rumors about him but those were trivial enough that they never bothered him.
Sakura glanced around a bit and leaned even closer—an act which made Riku realize how she hadn’t changed much,
“There was a rumor that your past life lover’s soul haunts everyone who tries to get close to you.”
Riku barely held himself from laughing aloud before he asked in the same pitch, “Really? Tell me more about it.”
Sakura widened her eyes, “You really don’t know about those rumors? Apparently, every love letter which was left for you was found in pieces back in the sender’s locker…along with a warning.”
Riku was now more intrigued in hearing this story as he leaned forward and asked, “And what that warning said?”
Sakura gulped in fret with her complexion paling slightly. She turned to look around again before finally uttering, “…the warning always had the name and address of the person and a threat that if they try to send you a love letter again, they might not be able to sleep at night anymore.”
“What are you guys talking about?”
“Eeeek!” Sakura suddenly made a strange sound and turned to look at the person who suddenly appeared behind her.
“Yui~Sakura is telling me a really interesting story about our high school.”
Yui, who was scrutinizing Sakura until now, turned to look at Riku before asking, “And what is that?”
Yui took the seat beside him and asked the girl in front.
Sakura was a bit speechless as she glanced between Yui and Riku.
Riku realized her confusion before informing her, “She is fiancée, Yui. And Yui, she is my ex-classmate Sakura.”
A smile extended her lips upon hearing the word ‘fiancée’ from Riku. Although it would have felt better if he had said ‘Wife’, Yui was satisfied with this much for now.
“Nice to meet you, Sakura-san. ”
“L-Likewise.”
Sakura was a bit mesmerized by Yui’s smile and a bit shocked by the sudden revelation of their relationship.
“So, Riku-kun…what was the story she was telling you?” Yui asked as the waiter finally arrived with the order.
“An iced tea,” Riku ordered for Yui before he refocused on what his girlfriend asked,
“Hmm…so basically, there was a ghost back in high school who used to haunt those girls who tried sending me love letters.” Yui’s expression froze upon hearing the story as she stared at Riku with a blank look.
Riku smirked seeing that reaction since he had, more or less, discerned who this ghost was.
“I have heard that this ghost even forcibly trimmed the hair of some of those girls.”
*Hicc*
Suddenly, Yui jerked because of the hiccup as she retained her gaze on Riku.
Riku’s smile extended even further and he somehow controlled himself from laughing aloud.
“I think that ghost really loved me~” Hearing Riku’s casual comment made Sakura tilt her head and Yui’s cheeks adapted a rosy shade.
The conversation from there on remained majorly revolving around casual stuff since Riku didn’t want to bully his cute lover anymore.
Around five Sakura panicked as she realized she was late, “I gotta go. Let’s meet sometime later with everyone else.”
Riku got up and gave her a brief hug, “Sure. Then see ya.”
Sakura waved at Yui, who waved back—albeit a little lifelessly.
Once she left, Riku sat back down, and asked the girl, “You seem a bit pale. Is everything alright, Yui?”
Riku tilted his head and pretended to be clueless. He could see the guilt and panic in her eyes as she opened and closed her mouth more than once but no word came out.
Riku couldn’t stop himself anymore as he laughed aloud and hugged the girl in his arms.
Yui becomes so helpless and vulnerable sometimes that he can’t help but tease her even more. Those who are accustomed to seeing a determined and confident Yui at college might faint with shock seeing this tame and docile Yui.
“Senpai….do you hate Yui for what she did?” Yui’s voice was like that child who has made her parents sad because of her low grades.
Riku detached himself from her and looked into her eyes, “I have already accepted all your sides, and what happened in the past no longer bothers me. So just relax and don’t think about it anymore.”
Yui remained silent for a moment as the waiter came to deliver another black coffee and some snacks.
Riku was about to check his emails on the laptop, when the very thin voice of Yui reached him, “Then….can I continue to block the direct messages you receive from those harl- I mean, those girls who are trying to woo my Senpai?”
Riku sighed before shifting his laptop towards her, “Do whatever makes you feel at ease.”
A very pretty smile that could possibly stop a war, elevated the edges of her lips before she eagerly took the device and started her blocking spree.
Looking at her fierce expression while she read those messages, a thought crossed his mind,
‘If possessing me makes you happy, then I am more than willing to live by your side until the end…’
