- Chapter 71- Ichinose\'s warning
While holding onto Riku, Yui fell asleep.
She didn’t want to. She did her best, to resist. However, under the constant warm whispering of her Senpai, she was left with no choice.
She was tired. Mentally, she was on the verge of turning insane. For the past month, she hasn’t slept more than two to three hours before sitting up and looking at her phone for hours. The portion on her plate has been reduced, and the person who never liked wasting food doesn’t seem to be keen on following her principles the past month. Her physique has turned weaker and the tear stains down her eyes has become a permanent marking of her sorrow.
While holding Yui in his arms, Riku slowly caressed her hair and comforted the girl so she could rest easy.
Her breakdown, broke his heart. He has been living in his world thinking that he was trapped and made to love Yui. A part of him knew that he liked her ever since, but the label of being a ra*ist was too heavy to bear for him.
Although he knew that Yui loved him all so much, that she had to rely on underhanded methods, Riku seldom questioned whether it was love or she was just desperate for him.
Many assumptions, many thoughts, and everything clouded his mind in such a manner that he wasn’t able to look at the reality, clearly.
Riku convinced himself that once he would sort his mind out, he would make up with Yui. Then again, what this sorting out was? What was he even organizing when every fact and truth was now disclosed? Why was he taking so long and kept ignoring Yui like she was some kind of criminal in his eyes?
He was an idiot. Through and through.
He ignored, not only the person but the pain and suffering she was going through. A part of him knew that given how she was obsessed with him, his behavior would hurt her too badly. However, what he did do for that?
Nothing.
Absolutely nothing.
‘I am sorry, Yui…I am sorry…’ The lump in his throat made him unable to speak anything as he repeatedly apologized to the girl in his head.
“Here. Drink this before you die.” Riku was startled to hear the voice before he turned to look at Ichinose who was extending a bottle of water in his direction.
Riku supported Yui’s back with his left arm before taking the bottle. Ichinose had already taken off the cap, which allowed him to drink the content without moving much.
“It’s the first time in a while when I have seen her so relaxed.” Ichinose’s words were filled with sorrow and relief.
His gaze remained constant on his still-sleeping sister, who had her hands clutching Riku’s shirt firmly and calm breathing, leaving her lips.
“Ichi….I…thank you…thank you for making me realize my mistake and bringing me here.” Riku’s voice was slightly hoarse but he was able to relay his sincere gratitude.
With his gaze falling toward Yui, Riku continued, “I was so preoccupied with my own ridiculous delusions and assumptions that I never paid attention to how much she was going through.”
Ichinose sighed before kneeling beside his friend, who was sitting on the floor with Yui settled on his lap.
Ichinose brought his hand to Riku’s shoulder before expressing his thoughts, “Don’t call it ridiculous since you weren’t wrong to feel betrayed after knowing the truth. Even I am accountable for letting Yui do whatever she pleased and push you into this relationship.”
“You have all the right to be mad at her. She has hurt you, broken your trust, and trapped you in a nasty strategy to gain your love. You have more than enough reason to get upset with her. Anyone would react the same.”
Riku directed a complicated gaze at Ichinose before he heard the person continuing,
“However, what you did wrong was to not communicate with her. You didn’t scold her nor relayed, how you were feeling. I know people like to remain alone when someone hurts them, but still, you took a lot more time than you should have.”
Fixing his tired gaze at Riku, Ichinose concluded, “You were having your own difficulties while my sister was suffering all alone. And I, who can see both sides, was feeling hopeless until now. That’s why, I am grateful for your decision to come over.”
Riku could see how much Ichinose had endured these past few weeks. He was the sole person that was coming in contact with both Riku and Yui. He was the only one who was seeing the complications both sides were facing yet Ichinose wasn’t able to do anything about it.
“Ichi….in the future, if you think I’m doing something wrong or any of my actions have hurt Yui…please don’t hesitate to hit me again. Thrash me brutally and force me to make the right decision.”
Ichinose smirked at that, before asking, “Are you sure about that? I was holding my punches before, you know.”
Riku frowned, “Don’t give me that, crap. I know you were going all in. What would have happened if I had lost a tooth or two?”
“Then that would have been great, no? My sister would have started disliking you and the world would be finally at peace.”
Riku snickered, “You think my Yui loves me just for my looks.”
“Well, isn’t it-wait! What the heck is ‘my Yui’?”
This time, it was Riku’s turn to snicker, as he tightened his embrace around the girl and asked, “Well, isn’t it obvious?”
Ichinose narrowed his eyes at the cocky bastard in front of his eyes….however, he soon sighed and lost his motivation to continue this argument.
“I will be in the living room. Call me if you need something.” Riku nodded as he saw Ichinose getting up and heading toward the door.
“Hey Riku…” The said person turned to look at his friend, who for some reason was directing a suspicious gaze, as he spoke,
“Don’t try anything funny with her. I am just outside.”
Riku was…for once, a little taken aback by the cold attitude before he nodded.
Seriously, the friend version of Ichinose was a lot tamer compared to the sibling version of Ichinose.
