- Chapter 65- Likes and dislikes
Last night Yui was barely able to sleep.
So many events transpired yesterday, that her comprehensibility nearly collapsed. First the proposal, then the revelation of truth.
It wasn’t like Yui was going to hide the reality from her Senpai, forever, but she wanted to solidify their bond first. She feared, that once Senpai got to know how Yui wasn’t a silly and adorable girl, but rather a cunning and selfish person, he would start hating her.
The facade she has worn for this long would hurt her Senpai, once her true side gets revealed.
And the thing she feared the most, occurred yesterday.
“Do you think, he will come?” Sitting inside the living room, Yui couldn’t help but ask her brother as he busily moved around the kitchen.
She was wearing a white shirt and high-waist black jeans, along with sneakers for the meeting. She was planning to wear something more fancy and have a matching dress code with her Senpai…but now, she just went with her regular clothes because of her current mindset.
“You have asked me thrice by now, and my answer is still the same. Yes, he is coming in a few minutes. He just called me before leaving the house.”
Yui felt complicated emotions swirling in her chest upon hearing that.
The fact that her Senpai was still arriving for the meeting, despite what happened yesterday, shows that he wasn’t reluctant to remain in this relationship with Yui. However, on the other hand, the thought of meeting her Senpai face to face was making her restless.
It was then,
*Ding* *Dong*
“He’s here.” Yui sprang to her feet instantly, upon hearing the doorbell.
Ichinose raised his brows before gesturing for his sister to open the door. However, Yui just shook her head and said, “You go…I can’t face him after all…”
Covering her face, Yui dropped back on the couch. She just couldn’t see her Senpai as of now. She didn’t want to see his disappointed eyes and cold expression.
Ichinose sighed at the dramatic reaction before he wiped his hands and walked toward the door.
*Click*
“Sup.” Ichinose greeted the guy standing on the other side, casually however he could tell that Riku wasn’t his natural self currently.
“Hey…are you cooking something?” Riku asked as he walked inside the house.
Realizing how Riku was trying to keep the atmosphere stable, Ichinose also didn’t ponder for long and replied, “Yeah, a celebratory cake. Once you guys get the approval of my parents, we will cut it together.”
“I wanna leave some more days, Ichi. Please have mercy.”
Ichinose cooks delicious main course meals but dessert was never his strong suit.
Ichinose thrust his elbow into Riku’s ribs as he replied, “Don’t be a sissy and face all your life problems with a smile.”
Riku rubbed the side of his stomach while thinking about what Ichinose said. Whether the brown-haired youth spoke those words just for the cake or something else, remained unclear.
As they walked inside the living room, Riku’s attention immediately drew toward the couch where the sole figure of a beautiful girl could be seen.
The funny part was her expression which remained entirely stoic, to the point, that she seemed to be frozen.
“Wanna have something to drink?” Generally, Riku takes drinks and snacks by himself if he wants to, but Ichinose knew that today, his friend wanted to talk to Yui, so he was looking for some reason to excuse himself.
“Coffee?” Ichinose nodded and walked toward the kitchen.
Riku remained standing still for a moment, collecting his thoughts and calming his breath.
Once done, he made his way toward Yui with heavy steps.
Yui’s heart raced immensely as she saw her Senpai advancing toward her. Truth be told, even a slap across her face was something she could gladly accept. Anything that could help him vent; works.
However, all Riku did was take out a paper from his pocket and offer it to her,
“Here…check whether everything is right or not.”
Yui was startled by his action, but she didn’t hesitate to take the paper and unfold it.
‘Eh?’ Inwardly, she exclaimed in confusion upon seeing numerous likes and dislikes. However, upon closer inspection, she found that all those favorites and aversions were all related to her.
Favorite food, favorite color, places she likes to visit in winter, the food she dislikes—mostly every basic and some personal things were written there.
These were the things that a person can only learn about someone if they stay close to them for a long time. That was why, there were several allergies also written down there.
“I read somewhere online that parents generally ask things like these during the first meeting…so…” Hearing Riku’s voice, Yui was plucked out of her daze as she looked at him dumbly.
“Y-You…were busy researching all this…last night?” Yui was barely able to hold her tears as she asked in a heavy tone. The lump in her throat barely allowed her to speak.
Riku seemed a little embarrassed to accept it, but he nodded at the end, “I mean, this meeting is important for both of us…I don’t want things to get messed up.”
Hearing his words signified, how despite being upset with her, he gave importance to this meeting so he could give the best impression to her parents.
‘…do I even deserve him…’ Her head dropped, her mind went numb and tears began to stream down her cheeks.
Riku was taken aback by the reaction, but soon he realized why she began weeping.
He seemed hesitant about what he should do…only to find his feet approaching the girl and his hand resting over her head.
Yui tightly clutched the hem of his shirt like she was clinging to her only hope in the darkness, she had enshrouded herself.
No words traveled between the two. Neither Yui apologized nor Riku told her that it was all fine.
Somehow they have mentally agreed to sort out their personal issues later; in a more peaceful manner.
Right now, their focus remains on a single goal.
The meeting with the parents.
