The time when I forcibly slept with my friend's sister! - Chapter 43- Solace
“Senpai…a-are you sure about this?”
Hearing Yui’s trembling voice Riku realized that she must be shocked by his sudden decision to tell his mother about their relationship. And he could understand the reason behind her apprehension.
She must be thinking that Riku was rushing things or maybe just because he woke up after a long slumber, he might be getting a little too emotional, but truth be told, there was nothing like that.
He has never felt this clear-headed before.
After going through the same experience twice where he felt himself at the end of the path of his life, Riku has come to understand something. And that something is regret.
Riku knows he might sound traumatized but the thought of dying some hours ago made him feel regretful of various things. Like he never was able to give his mother a comfortable life, wasn’t able to visit any of his dream places, and wasn’t able to start a business with Ichinose, like all those plans which they have been making over cups of coffee, mostly after school.
However, the biggest regret he felt at that moment was for Yui and the fact that despite having stolen her purity and forcing himself on her, he never took any responsibility whatsoever. He was just pretending to be alright with their relationship while trying to hide it from others.
He felt bad…to think that Yui always supported his decision and yet he wasn’t able to man up to announce their relationship…
That’s why he decided to stop hiding anymore.
“Mom… I have been dating Yui for some time now…”
Mizuki’s(Riku’s mom) expression upon hearing her son’s words, shifted from worried, to shocked before changing into a neutral one with a sigh escaping her lips.
Yui has practically gotten herself inside of her Senpai with her eyes closed like a cat. He could see how she just wanted to disappear from here but she was too elated to run away either. Her impeccable smile was proof of how happy she was at the moment.
“What can I say…congratulations to both of you?”
Raising my brows I asked her, “Why don’t you look surprised about this?”
Hearing his query a strange grin spread on Mizuki’s lips as she replied something much to Yui’s chagrin.
“I can’t say about you, but it was not like there weren’t any hints from the other side~”
“Don’t tell him that, Mizuki-san!”
Yui turned to complain to my mom with tears welled up in her eyes.
Riku was baffled by this conversation and why his mom had such a smug expression at the moment as she made her way toward the bed.
“‘Mizuki-san’ seems too distant, Yui-chan. How about you try saying Kaa-san or maybe Mom, just like Riku?”
“…” He was left speechless hearing such suggestions from his mother. It hadn’t even been two weeks since Riku and Yui began dating and Mizuki was already advancing to their marriage.
Riku thought Yui might have felt awkward in the situation so he should try to pacify this atmosphere. However, when he looked down at her red burning face, he felt himself, once again, at a loss of words.
‘Yui…you… ‘ Riku had nothing to express about it other than a smile as he began slowly rubbing her small head to calm down the excited Yui.
“Jokes aside, Riku…have you told about this to Ichi-kun?” Hearing his mother’s question, his hand halted but he soon regained his composure and replied to her in a calm down.
“No, not at the moment. However, once I get discharged from here I would tell him right away. After all, I need to prepare myself to handle some damage, right?”
“Well, that’s given. ” Mizuki sighed, clearly aware that her son was in for a good beating for valid reasons.
But Yui knew nothing like that would happen since her brother was already aware of this so there was nothing to get worried about.
….right?
Yui separated herself from her Senpai soon after so Mizuki could inspect her son properly. Yui didn’t want to come in between them at this moment so she walked out of the room.
“Are you fine, Riku?” And as Yui thought, Mizuki indeed was quite befuddled by the incident despite how casually she was behaving.
Not once but twice, because of her work and responsibilities, her son was about to be…Mizuki couldn’t even imagine what would have happened if not for the cameras installed in the house. Riku would have never gotten to know the real face of that psychopath girl and the incident might have ended up more severely than just a single wound.
However, currently, Mizuki’s reason for major concern was settled on the fact that her son, who has been recently trying to come out of his shell, had to face something so traumatic once again.
“Mom!”
“Ah, yeah.” Seeing how Riku shook her arm, Mizuki realized that she got lost in her thoughts when she should have been asking about her son’s well-being.
She indeed was a failure as a mother.
“Don’t start to think of some stupid stuff like ‘How useless I am’ and all. It was never your fault or anyone else. It was just Hitomi in the bad Mom, so don’t blame yourself, alright?”
If something she could be thankful for about her life then it was her son who has grown exceptionally well and considerate, who never blamed his mother for any of her misgivings.
“It’s okay, Riku…I know. But it’s also a fact that if I had never left you alone-”
“Left me alone? Mom, that girl was crazy enough that she might have attacked me in school or even in a public place. I have seen what lunatic of a person she was…trust me, Mom, facing her inside the isolated house was my safest option.”
From what she had heard from the officers, it indeed seemed that the girl named Hitomi was mentally ill and fixated on nothing but harming Riku since she blamed him for taking Hitomi’s mother away from her.
Logically, Mizuki might have accepted what Riku said as an appropriate measure but as a mother, she couldn’t help but feel her heart clenching in anxiety and the thoughts of ‘what-ifs’ elevating her guilt.
Tears welled up around her already-reddened eyes, and before she could stop herself, Mizuki began to break down in front of her son, even though she was determined to not cry around Riku.
In the end, she was just an emotional mother who couldn’t bear to see her child being hurt.
“Come on, Mom…don’t cry like this…you will make me shed tears at this age as well…”
Riku slowly hugged his mother and tried comforting her.
“I am sorry Riku…I am sorry for not being there for you…”
In the end, Riku wasn’t able to hold himself as well, before he found his eyes moistening. Despite how he was presenting himself in front of Ichinose and Yui, in reality, Riku was indeed quite shaken up by the incident.
And just like anyone else, he also found solace in his mother’s arm to wail out all his troubles.
