“Let’s go Yui. Ichi texted me to meet near the entrance.” I informed the girl before she nodded.

We have been chatting and strolling leisurely for some time. Just like with Ichi, there were many hobbies I and Yui shared mutually, specifically novels so we never had any awkward moments.

Well of course, except for what happened in the cafe. It might be a little shameless of me but her reaction was so priceless that it made it worth being so bold.

Yui’s brain just stopped working after I tasted the ice cream from the same spoon she used.

It was embarrassing for me as well since I have never gone past the hand-holding phase with my ex-girlfriend but I couldn’t have let it be known to her or my pride as an older guy would have shattered.

“Hey, Senpai…can I set our picture as my wallpaper? Pretty please? I will only apply it on my home screen so Nii-san won’t see it. ”

I was genuinely surprised to hear that she was already at that phase in our relationship where putting my face on her screen didn’t bother her.

I mean, not taking Ichinose into account, there would be many instances where Yui would unlock her phone, and her friends might see our picture in there. And Yui was aware of such risks yet it seemed she was alright with it.

Another thing I didn’t know about Yui.

“You can…and if you want you can put it on my phone as well…you know what it’s called right?”

“Couple-like things?”

I didn’t respond seeing that cheeky grin my kohai wore before we started walking back toward the entrance. We have ended up at the very far end of the park so it surely would take some time.

The weather was pleasant today so I didn’t have to worry about getting my hands sweaty. I have read somewhere that girls don’t like sweaty and smelly boys so to not make her uncomfortable, I used my pocket deodorant while Yui went to the washroom some minutes ago.

It doesn’t seem Yui was displeased with anything which was a huge plus since being inexperienced in this field, I was anxious whether my action might hurt her or make her uncomfortable.

“What are you thinking, Senpai?” With her midnight hair falling slightly forward, Yui tilted her head and glanced at me with her eyes going rounder than it already was.

Cute.

“Ah…it’s nothing serious. I am just planning a proper date with Yui-chan after I tell Ichi about this whole new situation I have created.”

It wasn’t a lie since I had decided in the morning that I would tell everything Ichinose and see what happens. I was prepared for anything and everything.

Even if Ichinose beats the crap out of me or tells me to break up with Yui-chan I…won’t accept it. I have promised Yui that I would not leave her side whatever happens. So even if Ichinose beats me to the point of being hospitalized, I would return to him again and try to pursue him to allow this relationship to continue.

I wasn’t a stubborn guy but just imagining the sad look on Yui’s face makes my resolve stronger than before.

It was fascinating to see myself getting so passionate about something for the first time but I don’t dislike this feeling…this determination to be by Yui’s side was something I resolved upon the very day I woke up in her bed.

“…it’s not wholly your fault, Senpai…”

“Hmm? You said something? ” Since I was pretty immense in my monologuing I didn’t hear her words clearly.

In response, Yui kept her head down before she shook her head.

‘I wonder… ‘ At that time I didn’t know how much Yui was suffering from guilt…

“I was about to call you two. Where you run off to?”

Ichinose asked as I and Yui reached the gate. We, of course, have let go of each other since it would have been suspicious to be seen like a couple in front of Ichinose when he was completely clueless about the matter.

“Just enjoying the weather and gaining some calories along the way.”

“You guys ate something delicious, without me?! No way….” Ichinose being Ichinose, seemed completely devastated upon hearing about food.

Yui seemed to have regained her natural smile unlike before which made me relax.

We chatted for a bit as Ichinose decided…more like ordered us to follow him to the nearby BBQ.

Since I was pretty much hungry myself, I agreed readily, prepared to have some protein intake. Yui-chan didn’t seem very appreciative of the plan but she didn’t reject it either.

We made our way toward the nearby live BBQ which was fairly crowded but we found ourselves a seat near the corner.

Yui and I sat together with Ichi opposite us. There was a charcoal burner and soup boiling at the center of the table and the meat would be delivered soon. We ordered drinks based on preferences as well.

Yui was showing me some pictures of the school poster she prepared when suddenly Ichi called for me, “Hey Riku….you have Mizuo-san’s phone number right?”

I blinked. Yui blinked. We both blinked.

“Eh?”

“Already first name?” Yui spoke what I failed to utter as we both stared at the guy with wide eyes who was rubbing the back of his neck in embarrassment.

“It was her request and I wasn’t able to refuse so yeah…. ”

My brows raised at that and my heart warmed up.

What is this familial feeling I was experiencing? Is Ichi finally seeing the colors of the world? Is it time for me to search for the perfect wedding ring?

Many questions to think about but for now “Yes, I have Kuriyama-san’s number, my friend.”
