- Chapter 3- My friend\'s sister!
Tsukasa Yui-chan. A second-year student in the same school where I go. She’s one of the closest people I have in my life.
Since Mid-high Yui-chan calls me her senior even though I asked her several times to call me Nii-san or something like that since I was also like her brother.
But for some reason, she never agreed. Maybe I was more like her friend or she never took me seriously?
Regardless, Yui-chan really is a very precious person to me.
And if such a person suddenly appears in front of me with her hair disheveled and uniform slightly out of order, I would definitely get tensed.
“What happened to you? ” Now that I see it, she seemed to be panting a little as well. Did she run all the way to the third floor?
“This…I was trying to get this for you… ” In her hand, there was a meat bun resting. The packet was a little stretched as well which signified what kind of rush it must be in the cafeteria.
“Come here.” Standing in one place would have blocked the path so I pulled Yui-chan to the staircase which leads to the rooftop. Since the terrace is locked no one comes on these stairs.
“Seriously, Yui? Why did you go out of your way to pick this up? I would have been fine without lunch today.” As I spoke, I used my fingers to tidy up her short hair.
Unlike her brother, Yui has short black hair which reaches up to her shoulders. She was almost 5’7 in height, four inches shorter than me. She’s a very charming girl and because of that small mole below the left side of her lip, her face seems lovely to gaze at.
She’s not any less famous than her brother and I have heard how many people even from the third year have tried going out with her but she rejected them all. In the first place, if someone wants to be her boyfriend then he has to go through the trials I and Ichinose have prepared.
Yui is too innocent to judge people correctly. We, her brother would do the final check before we let any male near her.
“Senpai spoils me too much…hehe~” She giggled. I shook my head seeing how happy she could be even though I was just tidying up her dress a little.
“Senpai, can I get your hanky? I am kinda getting sweaty from all the running I did. ”
“Sure, but I have already used it before. Is it alright? ”
“Couldn’t be better… ”
“What? I didn’t hear you, Yui. ” Since I was taking out the handkerchief I wasn’t able to properly hear what she murmured to herself. However, even though I asked Yui-chan just shook her head.
It seemed she really was heated up after all the rushing here and there since her face has yet to settle its redness down. Her skin is so smooth and white that her face gets red even if she shouts a little loudly.
I handed her my handkerchief before taking the bun from her.
“Give me that.” As Yui-chan handed me the bun, I tore the packet before tearing the bun in two and giving half to her.
“Let’s eat here before you go. I bet you haven’t eaten your lunch yet.” Yui just wryly smiled making me sigh.
We sat on the stairs before digging in our lunch.
“Take slower bites, alright? You easily get choked on dry food.” She doesn’t have any esophageal stricture in her diagnosis yet Yui often chokes on her food these days.
Sometimes I feel anxious that what if no one is around the girl to pat her back or provide her with water. Yui wasn’t a weak girl but she sometimes could be clumsy at things that people consider trivial.
“Mou~Senapi treats me like a kid…” Yui pouted before a mischievous glint passed across her oceanic eyes as she drew near me.
“Tell me senpai, don’t you see Yui as a potential partner?” Stretching her shirt to the point where her cleavage could be seen, Yui asked with a sly smile.
It was inevitable for my gaze to fall on her exposed skin but my face remained indifferent as I replied to her, “You shouldn’t be doing something like that to others Yui. I know that you are just playing around but others would take it wrongly and might do something bad to you. ”
I need to scold this silly girl who sometimes goes a little far with her teasing.
However, I didn’t expect her retort would be like this… “Not like I would do anything like this with anyone else. It’s only you, Senpai… ”
For some reason, I could believe that Yui-chan would not do anything so reckless in front of anyone other than whom she trusts. I felt my shoulders relaxing a bit, though the atmosphere surely have gotten awkward.
“I heard you guys are going to the arcade, Senpai. ” Yui-chan asked, to break the ice between us.
I was thankful for that.
“Uh, no. Actually, I am going to help a friend of mine to buy some gifts for Ichi for his birthday. Don’t tell him that tho… ” I have already received a message from Akechi-san to meet near the second exit so we could go to the central mall which was near the station.
She doesn’t want us to be seen together as much as could that’s why she asked for an hour’s delay after school timing so she could go and prepare her disguise.
“I bet it’s a girl, right? ”
“Yeah…” Yui hummed at my response before she once again turned her head in my direction with her hair falling over her face slightly as she asked in an innocent tone, “Would Senpai mind if I also accompany you to the mall? Of course, I would lie to Nii-san so he doesn’t get to know about the objective of our trip.”
I initially wanted to reject it since I wasn’t sure how Akechi-san would react but when I thought about it deeply, I realized that there could be no one better than Ichi’s sister to help Akechi-san find the perfect present she could give to her crush.
Of course, I would be there to advise them but ultimately Akechi-san would rather remain comfortable in the company of a girl than mine.
“Alright. Meet me near the downtown cafe. We would go to the mall together.”
*Cough* *Cough*
There it is. If not for her first bite then the last one would surely do the job.
I patted her back gently and helped Yui swallow the bun properly.
“Seriously…what’s the rush about?” I asked with a concerned frown drawn over my brows. There were still almost ten minutes left for the bell to ring so I didn’t have any idea why she would hurry all of a sudden.
Hearing me scolding her, Yui-chan leaned forward and rested her head on her knees.
I felt guilty for reprimanding her when suddenly she side-glanced at me with her teary eye and said something which I wasn’t prepared for.
“But…the prospects of going on a date with senpai…was too startling for me…my heart still is beating violently, senpai… ”
… sometimes I feel that Yui-chan isn’t teasing me with such daring remarks at all.
And soon I would come to know how accurate my assumptions were.
[Still, three days remaining for the life-turning event]
