“Alright, then. I would be off. ”

Saying so I left the house with my bag on the back.

Today’s weather was a little cloudy, and the weather forecast also said that it might rain by the evening.

Just when I was about to step on the street I felt my phone buzzing.

“Hmm? Akechi-san?”

It was a text from her which stated, ‘Can you arrange my meeting with Ichi-kun? Just the two of us?’

Reading the content of the message I would have instantly typed, ‘yes’ since it wasn’t very difficult to manipulate that guy and send him to the library or somewhere, where he could be alone with Akechi-san.

But today, was his birthday and many would be flocking around him like puppies around a milk bowl. Not only from the third year but the junior sections would also visit surely today. After all, it was Ichinose we are talking about here.

‘But… it’s the first time Akechi-san to ask this…’ Being aware of her personality I couldn’t even begin to think how long she would have contemplated over this decision to meet her crush alone.

Akechi-san was a silent type of tsundere who doesn’t bat an eye at anyone including Ichinose and if possibly he comes across her where Ichi have no choice other than to converse with the ojou, then in nervousness Akechi-san spouts nonsense.

Pondering over the possibilities, I replied to her, ‘At 4. Cafe downtown. Try not to get any attention while on the way to the cafe.’

A short, ‘Hmph’ came in response but I could already sense the smile that must have bloomed over her lips.

With a shake of my head, I slid the phone back into my pocket before walking out only to spot a familiar person just walking by.

“Morning, Miho. ”

“Ah, Riku-kun… ”

“What’s with the dull reply?” Somehow it seemed she wasn’t too pleased seeing me early in the morning or something since the way, she usually remains cheery, her greetings seemed entirely unenthusiastic.

And soon I got to know the reason…

“Heh? Ichi doubts our relationship. ”

She narrated the talk they had yesterday on the way back home. Since I was taking care of Yui, Miho got her private time with Ichi but I could have never expected him to ask something like that.

“It seems so, Riku-kun…so if possible, shall we maintain some distance for the time being. I am really realllly sorry about this-”

“Don’t be. ” I shook my head to stop her from beginning her spree of apologies since it wasn’t her fault to ask something like this.

It was a little disheartening that I have to remain at a distance from my childhood friend and someone with whom I could share my thoughts without having the fear of being judged, but more than sad I was happy. Happy for Miho.

“You should rejoice Miho since if Ichi is getting doubtful of our relationship, means he sees you more than just an acquaintance. In my opinion, you have already surpassed the other girls in the race. ”

I tried cheering her up and the small shy smile that lifted the edges of her lips signified that I succeeded in lifting her spirit.

For the rest of the journey, I listened to music on my ear pods while walking some steps ahead of Miho. Enjoying the weather while listening to some Lofi rain was something I always appreciate.

‘Hmm…is Ichi really getting interested in Miho…’I wished that would be the case but for some reason, a side of mine tells me that Miho has misunderstood something.

Regardless, I walked to the classroom where Ichinose’s desk was already crowded with gifts and people.

Boxes ranging from ring size to big football size were placed on his desk and the person currently replying to everyone he could.

It was admirable how despite being surrounded by so many students, Ichi seemed calm and how he was responding to them without an ounce of annoyance was praiseworthy. I surely would have gotten overwhelmed by now.

Even juniors were here who were actively participating in the conversation and inviting Ichi to after-school parties. There were many rich young ladies who would love to throw celebrations in a grandiose manner but Ichi was rejecting all of them.

After all, even though he was that popular, Ichi still prefers to celebrate his birthday with people he was fond of. No exaggerated decorations and needless people. Just a small group and that was enough to make him happy.

“Alright, now get seated. ”

As sensei arrived the crowd scattered as the underclassmen rushed toward their class and the same for the students of other sections.

“Hey, you coming over, right? ”

“No chance I am gonna help you carry those.”

I bluntly rejected the unspoken request my friend was about to utter.

“It’s not about that. I have already asked someone to help me with the presents. Rather, there’s something special I have planned for tonight so dare not miss it. ”

The way he smirked I should have known that this bastard could be up to no good.

And when I arrived at his house and saw the bottles of beer… I knew tonight was going to be eventful…

And yeah, Ichi isn’t involved in what would be happening tonight. He is entirely oblivious. Hope that clears some doubts.
