- Chapter 69: I decided to lure the Saint out without telling my fiancée
“Ah… I’ve got to tag along for the royal academy inspection today, don’t I…”
It’d been five days since the envoy from the Holy Kingdom of Baltian had arrived in our country.
As their host, I’d been stuck entertaining them every single day, and the exhaustion finally got to me. I thus found myself slumped over the table first thing in the morning.
“Your Highness Harold, you should start getting ready. The young lady will be here soon.”
“R-right!”
Even if I was dead tired, greeting my beloved fiancée took priority. I hurried to change clothes and dashed for the front entrance.
And then…
“Your Highness Harold. I bring a message from His Eminence Salvatori…!?”
“It’s rude to stand behind His Highness without permission.”
Before the messenger could finish, Monica had already pressed a dagger against his neck, moving without a sound.
Honestly, what a fool. There was no way a mere Holy Kingdom agent could ever outmatch Monica, a Chevalier Family intelligence operative.
“So? What does His Eminence Salvatori have to say?”
“Y-yes, sir. He asks that after today’s inspection of the Royal Academy and your meeting with the headmaster, you… escort someone to the designated location.”
Trying his best to appear calm, the messenger handed me a small slip of paper.
I see… just as I’d thought. The ‘Saint’s Abduction Incident’ was going to happen at the Royal Academy, exactly like in Engage Hazard.
Well, that place would be the most convenient for that man, after all.
“Tell His Eminence Salvatori I understand.”
“Y-yes, sir. Excuse me!”
Finally freed by Monica, the messenger practically bolted out of the room.
“Oh my, the Holy Kingdom must be short on capable people. I even left an opening for him, yet he didn’t notice and just let himself be handled.”
Monica gave a small, expressionless sigh, twirling a strip of cloth in her hand.
That poor messenger would have to report back to Lorenzo bare-bottomed.
How embarrassing. Monica really was a devil.
“Well then… since it’s settled, I’ll leave it to you.”
“As you wish.”
With a graceful bow, Monica withdrew from my side.
“Cass, we’ll go pick up Sandra on our own today, all right?”
“Yep!”
Perched on my shoulder, Cass rubbed her cheek against mine with a smile.

“And as you can see, the Royal Academy accepts many outstanding foreign students, promoting exchanges that transcend social class…”
The headmaster droned on while leading the envoy group through the building.
Ugh… I was so sleepy.
Sure, I’d been tired lately, but the lecture itself was just plain boring.
Despite this, both Christia and Wilfred were listening intently. What on earth did they find so fascinating about this dull speech?
“Hehe… Haru-sama, please endure a little longer.”
“Ugh…”
Sandra whispered to me with a gentle smile, and I straightened my posture.
Ever since my match with Carla, she’d accompanied me every day, even on these tedious envoy inspections. I couldn’t ask for a kinder fiancée.
“Mmm… munya munya… I can’t eat another bite, nya…”
And then there was Cass, asleep and mumbling nonsense inside my coat pocket, currently in her Shadow Shield Casparieg form.
She was tiny right now since she wasn’t receiving any SP from me, but still as lazy as ever.
Once all this was over, I’d make sure to reward her with plenty of sweets.
By the way, Carla wasn’t among the delegation today. After that match, she’d been scolded for her rude behavior toward Christia and put under house arrest in one of the palace rooms until their return. Apparently, she’d be officially punished once they were back in the Holy Kingdom.
Who’d handed down that punishment? It was naturally the two in charge, Christia and Lorenzo.
According to Monica, who’d gotten the story from one of the clergy, Christia’s fury had been so intense Lorenzo had had to step in to calm her.
In other words… she’d just dismissed the very sword and shield that protected her.
“Well then, let us proceed to a tour of the academy grounds.”
At last, the headmaster’s long speech ended, and we stepped out of the reception room.
That was when…
“Lady Christia… after the inspection, there’s something I’d like to speak to you about. Would you be so kind as to accompany me for a moment?”
While Wilfred was looking elsewhere, I quietly whispered to her.
“Oh my… Your Highness Harold, you wish to speak to me?”
“Yes.”
Christia glanced toward Sandra, who was gazing absently out the window, then smiled knowingly back at me. I met her gaze with a serious expression and nodded.
“With eyes so full of passion, how could I possibly refuse? So, Your Highness, will you whisk me away?”
“It would be my honor.”
Playing the part, I took her offered hand, and together we slipped away unnoticed.
