The Tale of the Redeeming Villain - Chapter 48- Confession
Are you nuts—this was the first thing Catherine heard after reuniting with her best friend.
Veronica looked inches away from slapping her as she glared at the blond Saintess with frustration in her eyes.
Catherine weakly smiled and said, “Glad to see you too.”
Veronica grumbled, “I am not here to share pleasantries, Catherine. Tell me, when you received such evident warning from me and Carlson then why did you two remain here?”
The warning she just mentioned was the banners and posters all around the continent regarding the meeting between the Heroes and the Emperor. After seeing it, Catherine and Blake should have known that Noelle would try to do something to make his position prominent in this negotiation.
Catherine was not unaware of Noelle’s personality so she should have realised the danger of being around in the continent.
Blake stepped forward and said, “It’s my fault…the village where we were living was quite peaceful and the people were also very good…so I thought it would be fine if we stayed there a little longer.”
Veronica crossed her arms on her chest and glared at the man whom she had only met in the past, and that meeting didn’t give a good impression on the woman.
She looked up and down before asking, “So…how big is it?”
Blake was dumbfounded, and Catherine’s face began to turn red, as the latter exclaimed,
“What the heck are you even asking?!” She shook Veronica left and right with her eyes widened
Veronica scoffed, “I mean, to seduce the Holy Maiden, it should be pretty huge, no?”
Now, even Blake was embarrassed as he glanced at Catherine and away, alternatively.
Catherine was now shaking her friend even more, “Shut up! Shut up! Stop talking at once!!”
Veronica rolled her eyes and allowed Catherine to get over the embarrassment.
“Umm…guys?” Suddenly Charlotte asked, “Are we not going to stop him?”
She was the only one who was looking at the fort which was currently getting demolished by a red and black dragon.
The soldiers have long surrendered and ran away and Noelle…well, he was met by a very nasty end.
In his dragon form, Carlson crushed that man into bits and pieces before burning the whole paste until it faded.
However, now that the damage was dealt and Carlson made his intentions toward the Empire clear, Charlotte prayed he would stop now.
However, looking at his angry visage and hearing the ground rumbling roars, Charlotte discerned he wouldn’t stop until…
“Catherine…yes, I know you can stop him.” Holding her hand, with tears welling up in her eyes, she added, “Please stop him before he does something that he might end up regretting.”
The destruction by his flames would soon reach the town, and if it did, hundreds of innocent people would die.
And to stop Carlson everyone knew, Catherine had to step forward.
Blake also knew about it, after all, the future self of Carlson also warned about it.
However, against everyone’s opinion, Catherine rested her hand on Charlotte’s shoulder and told her,
“You are asking the wrong person…rather, you shouldn’t ask anyone’s help in this at all.”
Charlotte’s eyes slightly widened as she held her hand and shook her head violently, “No, no, no! This can’t be me…you know it! He loves you more than anyone else!”
Catherine, very calmly, told her, “After reading those past few letters, I don’t think it’s me who is in his heart, Char.”
Charlotte stared at the blond girl dumbfoundedly. She doesn’t know what they shared in the letters, however, the certainty in her eyes expressed many things.
Charlotte turned towards the destruction, her eyes holding doubt, but being encouraged by Catherine, she felt a flickering hope being ignited within her.
Closing her eyes she took a deep breath and yelled, “CARLSON!!!!”
She didn’t know what she should say that could help him regain his calm, so she just ended up yelling his name, praying that it would help.
Blake noticed that the dragon had yet to stop; urging him to summon his scythe and go there.
However, before he could have moved, Catherine held his hand.
Blake turned his questioning gaze before with a smile, Catherine said, “Trust her, dear. He will listen to her.”
Under her warm gaze, he helplessly hung his hands to his side and allowed his weapon to return to the inventory.
“You know better.”
Veronica was currently helping the children to sleep more peacefully. They were drugged, so Veronica gave them an antidote, which caused them to feel dizzy.
Although it would take time they would be fine—she assured Catherine when the Saintess was shedding rivers.
Tears continued to race down her cheeks, as she shouted again, “CARLSON!! RETURN TO ME, PLEASE!!”
Her voice echoed through the open space, but Carlson showed no sign of stopping at all.
Charlotte’s fear began to elevate, as the very thought of him injuring the innocents was too frightening.
Under constant pressure and fear, she suddenly yelled,
“I LOVE YOU, CARLSON!!!”
Her eyes were closed and the tears stained her face as she confessed her feelings after containing them for years.
Her heart was trembling violently, both because of fear that Carlson might not stop and nervousness that she had just exposed her feelings.
Her surroundings turned silent, as suddenly, Charlotte felt some weight over her head—prompting the girl to open her eyes and look at the pair of familiar red orbs staring back at her.
“When we were alone, you felt nervous, and now you confessed in front of everyone? Damn…”
Charlotte stared at the man dumbfoundedly for a long time before realization struck her, and the brunette jumped on him.
“Woah! Easy there…” He held her back before they could have hit the ground.
Charlotte continued to shed as many tears as she probably hadn’t let out in years.
Carlson glanced at Catherine and gave her a thankful nod.
Catherine smiled at the duo as she felt an arm encircling around her shoulder, urging her to lean her head on Blake’s shoulder.
Veronica, who was the oldest one among them all yet the only one who didn’t have a partner, suddenly felt that the destruction was more pleasing to her eyes.
‘Goddamn….I think it’s about time I give that idiot a chance to show me the colors of love.’ Veronica huffed.
“Thanks for helping us out,” Blake said to which Carlson chuckled,
“I don’t think you needed us in the first place.”
Blake smiled, “Even so…thanks for coming.”
