The Tale of the Redeeming Villain - Chapter 47- Threat

It was one of those days when Carlson, along with his team members, went on a mission in a faraway town and ended up saving several children who were being used for magic experiments.

Carlson and the other three were injured in the battle and very tired after the whole ordeal. It took them over a month to recover all the children from their hiding places. 

Carlson, being impulsive as ever, ended up killing every single researcher and bandit in that town even before Veronica could have extracted all the information from them. And since the children were not on the stage to make any conversation they had to search all around by themselves to find them.

Later, when they think that they have already rescued every child, Charlotte suggests that they should return before the Emperor deems them dead. 

Carlson also agreed however, Catherine didn’t say anything when they decided.

They decided to leave the next morning, and after having dinner, they fell asleep right away; considering how tired they were, it was nothing surprising.

At some point that night, Carlson woke up in a daze feeling his throat on fire. 

He didn’t have strength left in his legs, but he was so thirsty that he had to push himself on his legs to get the water container.  

As he drank water, while standing before the window, from the corner of his eyes, he caught someone moving in the town.

Frowning, when Carlson looked at the person, his eyes widened upon seeing Catherine removing the debris slowly and calling out for any child that might have been left behind.

Her feet were swollen and bleeding. The girl was in such bad shape that she had to use two wooden sticks as makeshift crutches. Pain and exhaustion were written over her face, yet the girl continued to look around for anyone who might have been left behind.

No one asked her to do so. No one was expecting them to save everyone. No one would have blamed her or the others if they ended up leaving some kids behind.

However, she continued to search. 

Catherine isn’t a saint because she received the holy blessing; rather, she received the title of Holy Maiden because of the kindness and warmth that she contains within her heart. 

Probably that was the day when Carlson fell for her. He was attracted to her beauty and smile, however, that day, Carlson got to know the real meaning behind the word ‘Love’.

That day, he swore in his heart that even if they could never become one, he would always protect the girl who had taught him so many things. 

And even after she left him to spend her life with the one she loves, the oath never wavered. 

As such, when Carlson saw the same girl, he swore to protect, currently bound to chains, his mind went blank.

That face which should have kept smiling, there were tear marks on it…the kindest woman in the world shouldn’t have been treated so cruelly.

The air grew dense and heavy, each breath felt like a weight. The ground trembled harder, and the entire fort groaned as if it would collapse at any moment. The dragon, wild with rage after seeing Catherine, unleashed a crushing force that pressed down on everything around, threatening to break the fortress apart.

Noelle gulped nervously before warning him, “Hero Carlson, if you take any wrong step I w-”

**TING**

Very barely Veronica saved Noelle from losing his life as Carlson shot a torrent of flame right at the face of the man without a second thought. 

Veronica winced as her barrier was constantly getting torn, only to be replaced by another one. 

In a moment of desperation, the violette shouted, “Think carefully, Carl! Why would she get captured in the first place when we all warned her?!” 

Charlotte added, “He definitely has something to blackmail her, Carl!” She wrapped her hand against Carlson’s wrist to stop him from attacking the Emperor, who had already taken cover behind his soldiers.

Carlson was beyond furious, his eyes redder than before. His aura suggested the grave lust of blood he carried, and at the moment, if anything was stopping him from taking his dragon form, was the concern for Charlotte and Catherine. 

[Carl….]

Suddenly, Carlson’s eyes widened as he heard Catherine muttering his name. He heard her on the orb which was placed before them.

He stopped attacking Noelle and held the orb before calling out. 

“Cathy! Wait there, I am coming!”

Carlson got up, intending to flip the whole fort over if it helped him find his friend.

However, “As I said, a single mistake can cause the Saintess dearly, Hero Carlson. Her beloved orphaned family members are my captives, and a single step out of this room or any damage you inflict on me can cost those small children their lives!”

The scumbag of an Emperor shouted in anger. Noelle had a very sensitive nerve of the Hero in his hold, and thanks to that, he can bark all he wants on them. And they have to obey!

Carlson gritted his teeth, “I promise you Noelle, the very fact that you captured Catherine will be the last mistake of your life. With these hands of mine, I will claw the life out of you and will drink your blood in front of your people. And that…is a promise.”

Noelle smirked, “I dare you, Hero.”

Veronica, who has recovered from all the pain her ‘dear’ friend has bestowed on her, suggested, “Now sit down, you coward, and tell us what you need.”

Noelle smirked before he walked out of his hiding, and sat down on his previous spot. 

Carlson clenched his fist in frustration to the point his hands bled. The raw anger he possessed at the moment could easily scare away anyone including several immortals. However, Noelle held confidence in his posture as he said,

“As I was saying-*THUD*.”

Suddenly, Noelle paused as the figure of the brunette before him disappeared, followed by two dull thuds.

Turning around, Noelle’s eyes widened upon seeing the two soldiers now lying on the ground with their heads rolling away.

“Charlotte?!” Carlson cried in panic, knowing how her action could cause Catherine.

However Charlotte looked indifferent about her action, and before Noelle could fly in rage, she pointed at the orb,

“Why don’t you guys look at the screen? It seems the hero has rescued his heroine~”
