The Summer Day When I Met You - Chapter 7 - The Day We Went to the Festival
Chapter 7 – The Day We Went to the Festival
I was waiting for someone that day.
But I don’t even know who that someone is…
I only have a few days left in this place.
I will not let this miracle go to waste, and I will enjoy this day.

After a series of sunny days, today, it’s been raining since this morning.
I didn’t feel like going outside, so I decided to do my summer assignment.
“Phew~ I’ve been at it for a bit over two hours. I should take a break.”
I left my desk and went to the living room where my mother was.
“Mom, do we have some barley tea?”
“Yes. I made it earlier.”
I went to the kitchen, prepared a cup and filled it with barley tea.
“Hey Hinata. You’ve been hanging out a lot lately, have you made any more friends?” Mom asked me as she folded the laundry.
“No, not really… Ah, but I became friends with a girl called Kokoa.”
“Not Rino-chan, Karin-chan, or Sayo-chan?”
“Yeah. She’s kind of a strange girl.”
“Heh~ Why don’t you bring her home sometime? I’d like to meet her too.”
Why does Mom want to see her?
It’s not an arranged marriage.
“Well, I’ll ask her.”

I went back to my room, looked at my phone screen and saw a message from Rino.
The message said, “Are you free tomorrow? If you are, why don’t you, Kokoa, and I go to a local festival? I invited the other members, but they all have other things to do, so I’m looking for someone who can go. Shinba already said yes…”
Festival, huh…?
There’s only a few days of summer holiday left, so maybe it’s a good idea.
“Okay. Let’s meet up there.” I sent a message to Rino.
“Yes!”
Just as I was looking at the message…
I was surprised when it was immediately marked as read.
“Now, let’s resume my studies.”
I switched off my phone and went to my desk.

12.30 noon.
I met Kokoa by chance in front of the station and we decided to go to the festival together.
“Isn’t it amazing? I didn’t get lost in front of the station.”
Kokoa made a smug face as she said so.
“Yes, yes. You did great,” I said as if treating her like a child.
“Muu~ Stupid Hinata.”
“I’m sorry. Let’s just say that Kokoa has grown up.”
“Grown up… Yeah right! I may have grown up.”
She smiled happily when she said that.
Watching her smile from the side, I couldn’t take my eyes off her for a while.

When we arrived at the festival site, Rino, who had arrived earlier, was looking at me and waving.
“You’re early, even though it’s not the meeting time yet,” I told Rino.
“Because I was looking forward to it.”
“I was looking forward to it too.”
When Kokoa said this, Rino hugged her.
“By the way, you look cute in your clothes today too~”
“T-Thank you. Rino is cute too.”
“Really? Thanks~”
I smiled when I saw Kokoa and Rino like that.
“You’re so close.”
“Eh? Could it be that Hinata is jealous? Hmm~?” Rino stared at my face as she said that.
“No! Of course not!”
“Wow~ You’re so bad at hiding it.”
“Shut up, come on, let’s go round the stalls.”
“Yes, yes, let’s go, Kokoa.”
“Yes!”
The three of us thus enjoyed the local festival. We had a lot of fun playing goldfish scooping, ring toss, and shooting games to see which of the three was the best, and eating yakisoba and candy apples.
***
“Mmm, that was fun!” Rino said as she stretched herself.
“I had fun too. Rino, thank you for inviting me today.”
“No, not at all~ Thanks for hanging out with me. Let’s hang out again!”
“Yeah! Ah, I have to go now… See you both later.”
Kokoa said that and split up with me and Rino.
“Alright, let’s go home too.”
“Yeah.”
Rino and I started walking side by side toward the station.
“Hey Hinata… I’ve always wondered, where does Kokoa go to school?”
“Eh… Well, I don’t know either.”
“Hinata too? I thought you’d know…”
At this point, I started to realize… Recently, I thought I was getting along well with Kokoa, but I realized that I knew nothing about her…

Today, I went with Hinata and Rino to a local festival.
We had a very good time.
There’s something I’ve been thinking about lately… It’s that I unconsciously look at Hinata.
This feeling, could this be…
No, I shouldn’t be aware of this feeling.
Only 12 days left until the summer holiday ends.
