- Chapter 35 : The Protagonist is in danger?
Yuris was outnumbered, he knew that very well.
Even so, Yuris couldn’t help but grasp his sword due to the sense of justice within him.
“Phase One: Local Enhancement One”
Yuris looked at the group and casted a magic spell on himself to enhance his body strength.
It was quite a basic thing for knights and adventurers, body enhancement comes in five stages. The higher the stage, the more physical abilities improve, but it also consumes a significant amount of magic power.
As the protagonist, Yuris can easily perform body enhancement up to three stages.
You might think there are two stages left… but generally, new students can not use magic willingly with proper control over it.
Even Ireina, who is from a knight’s lineage and is known as a prodigy, only reached the second stage so far.
In other words, among the students, Yuris excels remarkably in combat ability.
Amidst all this, Yuris raised his physical ability by one stage compared to others of his age group.
Not because he was careless, but to control magic consumption since he hadn’t lost sight of his goal, which was to buy time.
Thrusting his sword into the rebel who was trampled mercilessly, the group collectively lunged at him.
“Where the hell did you come from?”
“Die and you might meet your God in the afterlife!”
Swords, spears, daggers and scythes. Various weapons were closing in from all directions.
Yuris calmly wielded his self-taught sword technique, measuring the distance while dealing with them.
‘There’s the Saintess by that woman’s side.’
He might manage escaping with one person, slipping through the gaps, maybe even letting them escape if he faced them head on to buy some time.
However, the person taking the lead of this rebel group was clearly the leader. Having seen through Sheria’s act so easily, he can’t afford to underestimate the opponent.
‘Then, I will lure as many enemies as possible and start by getting Mina’s sister to safety!’
It might seem greedy.
Even handling a situation like this is already quite handful, yet he wants more.
However, Yuris’s priority was higher for Sheria and Mina’s sister. If he doesn’t count himself, there might be a chance to succeed—there’s a theoretical possibility of that plan in his mind.
But before that, his primary goal is to buy time.
‘I sense an increase in magical beasts outside. That means Mina has joined the battle… Probably she is dealing with Alba-kun’
If Alba was finally here and had joined the fight, they might together overcome this situation.
Such thoughts and hopes strengthened Yuris’s resolve as he gripped his sword tighter.
“Damn, this guy’s really something, huh?”
“If we surround him, we can overpower him!”
They even vocalized their strategy for him which was not considered as a good choice when in a fight.
Yuris immediately jumped to the wall, eliminating the blind spot behind him.
Although there’s the drawback of not being able to retreat, this is likely the best way to make them focus on him and deal with him.
However…
“You guys are a bit in the way.”
…Yuris’s instincts immediately made him roll toward where the enemies were.
Not to confront them, but because his body reflexively moved to escape.
As evidence of this, a streak of flame passed right where Yuris had been.
A flame that could gouge walls and the ground, with overwhelming power. A certain kill if it hits. Plus, the thought process to shoot without caring about allies. That was unbelievable in itself, just like the enemies he escaped from, Yuris was also shocked.
“Huh… You are surprisingly on my side?”
“Don’t dawdle. I don’t have the cheerful idea of teaming up to defeat you, you know.”
“Let me join the fun too.” Yoru tossed the flames at Yuris without even chanting.
“Damn it…!” Yuris reflexively jumped back, feeling the scorching heat on his skin.
With this single strike, two more enemies were caught up in the aftermath of the attack.
While it’s advantageous that the enemies were decreasing, the unexpectedly shifted focus of enemies turned the situation from positive to negative.
‘I can’t let Mina’s sister or the Saintess get caught in this!’
Yuris charged at the enemies, completely aware of the danger.
He wouldn’t hesitate to kill, despite being a student. If he didn’t kill them here, this mad person would bring unhappiness to many people in the future.
‘I have to capture them!’
Being a student shouldn’t stop him from killing now. He was standing here for that reason.
To prevent his benefactor’s precious people and his classmates’ precious people from being hurt.
‘I have to capture them anyhow!’
He broke through the wall of flames and Yoru’s elegantly contoured face soon approached.
Despite the enemies closing in, Yoru’s expression was…
“Well done. The taste as an appetizer wasn’t bad.”
Horrifyingly, he looked like he was having fun.
Immediately after, excruciatingly sharp pain shot through Yuris’s tailbone.
“Guuh—!?”
Yuris’s body bounced off the scorched ground multiple times, colliding with debris.
Just before the pain reached him, Yuris managed to catch a glimpse of a kick to his abdomen.
However, the opponent was a woman — supposedly enhanced like himself — yet she delivered an attack too fast and powerful for him to handle.
‘Why? This doesn’t make sense.’ Yuris should surpass her in terms of physical ability.
But the answer was revealed without delay.
“Phase Four: Local Enhancement Four”
Yoru wore a maniacal and fierce smile, spreading her arms.
“Now, it’s time for the main course! Let’s start with a little appetizer before I punch the God himself!”
Against such a monstrosity, can he really buy time?
Can he save the Saint and Mina’s sister safely?
“No…”
Can he really do it? No, he has to do it.
For that reason, he was standing here and facing his enemies head on.
He can’t let the misfortune of others go unnoticed!
He is the hero. Even if he knows he’s overwhelmingly weak, he clenched his fists in determination.
