- Chapter 84: Suspicious Person
I plopped down on the bed.
Currently, I was in the city of Zu, the Zora Federation’s capital. I’d rented a room in a fairly high-class inn and breathed in the spacious environment.
“It was surprisingly easy to rent a room…”
I recalled the earlier scene.
The moment when this inn’s owner reluctantly handed over the room keys.
Once again, humans had narrow shoulders in the Zora Federation. If they knew I was from the detestable empire—moreover, a member of the Salvatore Ducal House that had killed many of their compatriots—I couldn’t have gotten rooms so smoothly.
“Hiding our identities was the right choice.”
I wanted to relax at least until the coup occurred. I had other things to search for too.
“Luka! Are you there?”
The room door was knocked on.
This voice was Cornelia’s.
“What’s wrong, Cornelia? Did you put away your luggage?”
“Yep. I didn’t bring much anyway. Can I come into your room?”
“Sure.”
As soon as I gave permission, the door opened. Cornelia entered with a beaming smile.
“What did you come for? We’re just sleeping today, right?”
“It’s still evening. I was bored so I came to play.”
“There’s nothing here.”
“Just being near Luka is fun! I’ll practice aura!”
“Don’t break the room.”
Cornelia sat on the bed beside me. She closed her eyelids, rested her head on my shoulder, and began refining aura in that position.
I read a book borrowed from Sheila. Of course, I never neglected aura practice either.
“Hey hey, Luka.”
Cornelia spoke to me.
“What?”
“Let’s go out tomorrow. Knowing there are risks.”
“…Right. I’m planning to go see the White Tower on the north side.”
“White Tower?”
“Didn’t you see it when we entered the city? It was straight back from the front.”
“I didn’t see it. What kind of place is that?”
“Where this country’s councilors hold discussions. You could call it a conference room.”
A place like the Diet building from my previous life. It was apparently used for things besides discussions, but what mattered was that the representatives who governed the Zora Federation gathered there.
Moreover, at this time of year, something like representative elections were beginning. They’d collect votes from each race to decide whether to change current representatives or keep them.
In the original, several representatives had been replaced by others. Those guys were the masterminds of this coup.
Since I had the chance, I wanted to at least see their faces, though actually meeting them would probably be difficult.
“Wouldn’t going to such a place be boring?”
“It would be boring for Cornelia. I have a purpose so I’m fine.”
“Hmm. It’s related to the coup.”
“Pretty much.”
Cornelia was occasionally sharp.
“You can all play however you like. As long as you don’t cause trouble.”
“Mm… playing with Lucia and the others isn’t very fun, so I’ll go with Luka.”
“I see. Then I’ll have you help gather information.”
“Leave it to me.”
Cornelia showed no signs of reluctance. She’d devotedly follow my instructions.
Tomorrow… I hoped something interesting would happen.
Thinking this, I spent that day quietly with Cornelia.

The next day.
Naturally, everyone followed behind me.
“So that’s where this country’s representatives gather.”
Cornelia leaned forward and muttered beside me.
“The security is quite strict.”
“That’s understandable. That place could be called the symbol of the Zora Federation.”
“Like the imperial palace.”
“So? What business does Luka have in such a place?”
I answered Lucia’s question briefly.
“I wanted to roughly check the terrain before the coup.”
“Terrain?”
“How the walls extend. What kind of building it is. There are parts about infiltration routes you can understand from the exterior. I came to see that.”
“What you’re saying sounds like the coup planning side.”
“Well, I am deliberately overlooking it. Similar enough.”
I hadn’t paid much attention while playing the game, but checking again, it had quite a troublesome structure.
Many security demi-humans surrounded the building. Breaking through there would be backbreaking work.
[Shall I infiltrate and kill them?]
[Killing isn’t the purpose, you stupid demon.]
The two overhead… what should I call them? Ghosts?
Anyway, I wanted both Lilith and Astaroth to stop making noise. They hadn’t shown themselves much lately, so what was sudden about this?
Was there something around here they reacted to?
I began walking with Cornelia and the others while casually searching my memory. To see the building’s side.
Then, partway through, I discovered an interesting person.
A demi-human from the coup planning side that I’d seen in the game. Though hooded, I wouldn’t soon forget that distinctive lion face.
Was he here for the same purpose as me? This was convenient—maybe I’d follow him later.
