Episode 12: Thus, the Town of Vascurlvia Was Saved.
Note: Starting from this chapter, the names of the three mentors will no longer be represented by race and furigana.
“Ah…?”
Am I alive? The first question that crossed Cross’s mind as he regained consciousness was doubt about his own existence.
“Where is this?” The next question was about the place he was in now.
Waking up without a hint of pain, as if the severe injuries were just a dream, Cross found himself in a spacious wooden room. The bed he lay on was a high-quality one with wool, clearly not an orphanage.
“Oh, you’re finally awake ,” a voice came from beside Cross. “Eh…?” Cross, bewildered, turned to see a woman smiling brightly at him.
“You finally woke up. I was worried since Teromea’s healing magic was perfect but you wouldn’t wake up,” she said.
Cross was deeply moved, especially considering the woman, Leone Burnedge, was astonishingly beautiful. With horns protruding from her head, she seemed to be a Dragonewt of the Dragon God tribe. Cross, overwhelmed by her striking appearance and revealing attire, didn’t know where to look.
Leone, noticing Cross’s confusion, introduced herself, “Oh, right. I haven’t introduced myself yet. I’m Leone Burnedge, a Dragonia of the Dragon God tribe, and technically an S-rank adventurer.”
Cross was shocked at hearing these incredible words.
Cross recalled the moment before he lost consciousness, realizing Leone was one of the three people who descended to save him from the monstrous creature.
Seeing the information on the unforgeable status plate, Cross finally recognized Leone as a genuine S-rank adventurer and a living legend.
Leone reassured Cross, explaining the events that transpired after the incident, including the minimal damage to the town, the successful suppression of the stampede caused by the Poison Slime Hydra, and how Cross’s actions had a significant impact.
Finally, Leone made a surprising proposal, “Hey, you should become my disciple.”
Cross, still processing the unexpected turn of events, found himself facing two more women who burst into the room, forcefully pushing Leone aside and overwhelming Cross with their approaches.
“I advise against becoming Leone’s disciple; you’d be wasting your life. I am Rudmila Hailstorm, an Elven “Disaster -class Arcwizard” S-rank adventurer. If you aspire to be an adventurer, choosing a wizard adept at monster extermination is the only rational choice. It would be most logical to become my disciple here,” declared the slender beauty with long ears, Rudmila, exuding an intellectual and refined atmosphere.
In response, Teromea, a woman with a decadent aura and a voluptuous body that couldn’t be concealed even through her clothes, confronted Cross.
“What are you talking about? Cross, being ‘Jobless,’ your level doesn’t increase, so a combat style specializing in entanglement suits you. Oh, by the way, I’m Teromea Crayblood, the top-ranking vampire and an ‘End-of-the-World Class Unholy Priestess Dark Priest High-End,’ an S-rank adventurer. It’s absolutely beneficial for you to become my disciple.”
“Huh? Huh? Huh!?”
Cross’s confusion reached its peak. The unexpectedly added beauties, claiming to be on par with Leone, were now inviting him to be their disciple as S-rank adventurers.
It seemed unbelievable.
After all, what were the odds of three S-rank adventurers, among the only nine in the world, gathering and inviting just one person to be their disciple? However, on closer inspection, these two, like Leone, were the individuals who descended from the sky at that time – Cross was frozen, and Leone’s roar exploded.
“You bastards, don’t interfere! Be quiet until I finish inviting him! Well, I probably won’t be rejected anyway!”
“Don’t joke around after trying to steal the spotlight! It’s too early for someone like you, with a personality disorder, to have a disciple! Hmm, talking it out is useless after all. Cross will be raised by me, no objections acknowledged!”
“So troublesome. Can’t you two just be quiet until I finish inviting Cross…? Skills—”
“Oh!? Teromea, are you serious? If you’re up for it, then Skills—”
“Interesting. If it comes to this, I’ll turn both of you into charcoal, Skills—”
“Eeeeh!?”
In an instant, the situation escalated, already exploding into a showdown between the three strongest individuals. Cross’s instincts went into full alert against the tremendous killing intent and magical power emanating from the three.
He didn’t understand what they were quarreling about, but one thing was clear: if left unchecked, this would cause a bigger uproar than the Hydra rampaging!
So, almost reflexively, Cross interjected into the showdown, “Um, excuse me!”
And then, on-the-fly, he blurted out a compromise.
“How about becoming disciples for all of you…?”
Silence. The moment the three stopped glaring at each other, they turned their gaze to Cross, who was nervously looking around.
“Well, if you think about it, since ‘Jobless’ can learn the basic skills of all ‘Job Classes,’ it seems more reasonable for him to become a well-rounded strong man…”
“I won’t lose to these two in female charm. If that’s the case, I can cooperate with the other two in training, and I can exclusively enjoy the most delicious part – the ‘harvest.’ ”
“Cross-kun seems to have a certain warmth like that Elysia, the descendant of a hero. If we work together as three, it should be easy to make him forget about her. It might be easy to raise a boy who is not only strong but also ideal in personality…”
Each had similar thoughts in their own way.
“…Alright, let’s go with that.”
“Yes, that seems the most fair.”
“No matter who is chosen in the end, there will be no hard feelings.”
And then, the three turned back to Cross and said, “From today, you are our disciple.”
“Yes, guidance will start after everything settles down. Take it easy for today.”
“Hehehe, it’s my first time living with a boy, so I’m nervous. Nice to meet you.”
With confident, cunning, and provocative smiles, each one informed Cross.
“…!”
Although it was said half in a flow to mediate the conflict, Cross couldn’t hide his bewilderment at the unexpected development. A ‘Jobless’ like himself becoming the disciple of three S-rank adventurers, and such beautiful ones at that.
But somehow accepting it as reality, Cross blushed and replied to the words of the three, “Um, well, I might not have much talent, and I might not live up to your expectations, but I’ll do my best, so please take care of me!”
Trying to become an adventurer like Miss Elysia… As Cross earnestly expressed his determination, Leone burst into laughter.
“Ah, don’t worry too much. It’s okay, okay.”
“Huh?”
“If your upbringing is bad, I can boost you with the Dragonia’s secret treasure. Well, if you end up being chased by the people in the village all the way to the ends of the earth, just defeat them all. Simple, right?”
“Huh?”
“Then there’s also a longevity and magical power enhancement elixir, refined only once every 300 years in the Elf forest. Well, if you use it on a human, you’ll be harassed perpetually by elves worldwide, but if you crush them one by one, it should calm down eventually.”
“Huh?”
The unnerving statements poured out one after another from the mouths of the three, and Cross shivered in fear.
“Um, is that… a joke?”
“Ha ha ha.”
Fearfully asking, Cross was met with a light laughter from the three.
“Well, yeah, we’re laughing, and it’s obviously a joke!”
Cross tried to convince himself in the face of their laughter.
—But the boy still didn’t know.
That these eccentric mentors, if push came to shove, might actually do what they were saying.
And that he had now found himself in a position where he couldn’t freely pursue romance unless he became strong enough to defeat all three.
The kind-hearted, slightly out-of-place, pure and innocent 14-year-old boy still didn’t know.
