Chapter 46: In a Good Mood
“Hi… Hiiragi?”
“Sorakaze… let’s do it. I want to do it with you.”
Hiiragi’s voice, unusually sweet and different from before, left me confused. Struggling to make sense of the situation, I opened my mouth to speak.
“Hiiragi, the reason you want to do this with me is because you’re worried about my health, right? If that’s the case, could you trust me?”
“…No, Sorakaze. Right now, it’s not about that kind of worry. I just want to be with you—”
“If I ever get sick, you can do whatever you want with me. But for now, trust that I’m okay.”
At my words, Hiiragi’s eyes widened slightly. After a brief pause, she asked, “…Whatever I want?”
“Yeah, whatever you want.”
Just like with Hinase, Shirayuri-senpai, and An, I resorted to the same reasoning: until I reach my limit, I’ll manage. Limits don’t come easily, and for the sake of moments like these, I’ll make this excuse if I have to.
“In that case… fine. I won’t do anything today—but…”
“But?”
Hiiragi tightened her embrace slightly, her voice still sweet.
“Let’s stay like this a little longer.”
“…Alright.”
I didn’t fully understand the meaning behind her words. But with Hiiragi acting differently than usual, I couldn’t bring myself to strongly refuse. So, I held her close for a while longer.
Her scent, mixed with the warmth of her body and the fragrance of her bed, made me nervous. To calm myself, I kept repeating in my mind that this whole situation was just an accident from losing balance.
After sharing this unusual moment, we spent the rest of the time playing “THE FPS” as usual. I made sure to head home before it got dark.
“Welcome back, Onii-chan!”
When I returned home, An greeted me energetically as always.
“I’m back, An.”
As I removed my shoes, she noticed something and spoke up.
“Onii-chan, you went to a girl’s house again, didn’t you?”
“Yeah.”
Even though I hadn’t said anything, she must’ve caught Hiiragi’s scent lingering on me, just like before.
“…You didn’t do anything weird, right?”
“…I didn’t.”
To be honest, today’s events were skirting a fine line between normal and weird. But I hadn’t crossed it, so I answered hesitantly.
“Alright! Then it’s fine! Dinner’s ready, so let’s eat together!”
An cheerfully walked toward the living room. If this were a few weeks ago, she probably would’ve grilled me more about my hesitance. However, lately, An had been in an unusually good mood, so I wasn’t too worried.
An’s cheerful mood seemed to have started after the day we went out with Shirayuri-senpai—the day we hugged. Since then, for reasons I couldn’t figure out, An had been unnaturally happy.
Even though I’ve been working almost every day lately, she simply tells me to take care of my health and lets me go with a smile.
While thinking about all this, I sat at the dining table, and An and I began eating together as usual.
“Onii-chan! Is it good?”
“Yeah, it’s delicious.”
“Yay! Then, next, I’ll feed you myself. Say ‘ahh’!”
“Ahh…!? W-wait! That’s not necessary!”
Startled by her sudden offer, I hurriedly declined. An, however, looked amused and happy as she said:
“Geez, you don’t have to be so embarrassed! Does that mean you’re that conscious of me? Ahh, Onii-chan…”
Her last words were so quiet I couldn’t catch them, but it was clear that An was acting differently than usual.
Still, as long as she seemed happy rather than upset, I decided not to dwell on it and continued eating.
The next day, I started going to work daily. With the rainy season in full swing, it rained almost every day. I kept an eye on the weather forecasts to avoid getting caught in the rain.
But after several days of constant rain, the forecast predicted clear skies. Yet, on my way home from work that evening—
“…!”
I was caught in a sudden downpour, a flash storm that came out of nowhere.

Chapter 47: Sudden Heavy Rain
“…This is bad.”
As the heavy rain began pouring, I quickly moved under a nearby building and muttered softly.
Today, the weather forecast had said there wouldn’t be any rain.
So, I hadn’t brought an umbrella.
If this had happened right after leaving my workplace, I could have just gone back and borrowed an umbrella. But—
“I’m already halfway between work and home. Going back now would mean getting just as soaked, if not more, since I’d still get wet even with an umbrella.”
In fact, considering the drizzle that might seep through, it might even be worse.
“Going back to work is not an option.”
Next, I considered going to a convenience store to buy an umbrella.
However, although the convenience store was closer than home, it wasn’t exactly nearby.
To get there, I’d have to head back toward my workplace, and I’d still get drenched on the way.
“Besides, buying an umbrella just for this short trip feels wasteful, especially since I have one at home…”
Convenience stores are great for affordable items, but umbrellas are surprisingly pricey.
Since I’m already careful about my spending, I really didn’t want to choose that option.
The last option was to wait for the rain to stop, but—
“…”
The rain pounded down so fiercely that it filled my entire field of vision, showing no signs of letting up.
If anything, it was only getting heavier.
“Looks like I have no choice but to go now.”
Resolving myself, I took a deep breath.
Then, I plunged into the heavy rain and began running toward home.
“…Hah…”
Compared to the average high schooler, I work a lot, so I’m confident in my stamina.
But I’ve been working almost every day recently, leaving me feeling worn out.
Moreover, it was the end of my shift, and my energy was lower than usual. Running through a cold, heavy rain like this was exhausting.
Wearing just a short-sleeve shirt, I started to feel an odd chill as the icy rain hit me.
Even so, I couldn’t stop once I’d started.
I kept running until I finally reached home.
“Hah… Hah…”
Out of breath, I stepped into the front entrance of my house—
“Onii-chan!”
Akari came out of the bathroom holding a towel, almost as if she’d expected me to be drenched.
She quickly walked over to me.
“Sorry, Akari. I’m completely soaked.”
“You don’t have to apologize! Wait right there. I’ll dry you off!”
Akari immediately began wiping me down with the towel.
As she did, her expression darkened slightly.
“You’re completely drenched… Onii-chan, why didn’t you call me? If you’d called, I would’ve come to pick you up right away.”
“I never considered calling you in this kind of rain.”
“…! I’d come for you no matter how heavy the rain, no matter the thunder or snowstorm—”
“It’s not just that. It’s already past 9 p.m. I could never let my precious Akari walk alone at this hour just because of me.”
“…Onii-chan…”
Akari continued drying me off with care.
“I’ll grab another towel; one isn’t enough. Just wait here and rest, okay?”
“Thanks, Akari.”
When I thanked her, she quickly went to fetch a second towel.
“Hah… Hah…”
I could feel the chill deep in my body.
The exhaustion from running in the rain lingered, combined with the fatigue I’d already been feeling.
Before I realized it, I collapsed right there at the entrance.
“Onii-chan! I brought another— Onii-chan?!”
I faintly heard Akari’s voice as she returned to the entrance.
Her voice was filled with panic, but I couldn’t hold on any longer as a wave of overwhelming drowsiness took over.
And so, I lost consciousness.
From that day on, my life underwent a dramatic change, revolving around the four beautiful girls in my life.
Now the real story begins 🤣
