- The Story of Becoming a Drinking Friend When I Saved the Cutest Senpai in University
- Vol 1 Chapter 8 - I Want You to Be by My Side
When we were informed that we could not fly, we decided to leave the house and head to the hotel after discussion. This is because there is a shortage of facilities to stay overnight just after purchasing, and there is no food other than alcohol and snacks.
However, I called a taxi, but it didn’t work. There seems to be a communication problem, so I can’t use the Internet let alone the phone.
It’s raining unbelievably hard outside. It’s not very much, but it’s hard to go to the hotel in this heavy storm on foot.
It’s like a closed circle.
So we had no choice but to stay here for the night.
There was only one queen-sized bed in the bedroom.
Needless to say, I watched senpai off from the living room heading to the bedroom. “Good night,” she waved.
“What are you talking about? Itomori-kun’s coming too.”
“…Uh, senpai, do you know what you’re saying?”
“Nya?”
“Nya? That’s not an answer.”
Perhaps because I drank a lot of wine and awamori, senpai still got drunk.
In response to her strange response, I accidentally forgot the honorifics and I ended up snapping at her.
“There is only one bed. Then I’ll sleep on the sofa.”
“You can’t do that! You might feel pain in your body!”
“…Please understand that I am a man. What are you going to do if anything should happen?”
She misleads people by saying she likes it, her body touch is intense, and she shows off her swimsuits. It’s been quite a while, but it would definitely be crossing a line to sleep in the same bed.
Of course, I have no intention or courage to make a move.
Even so, I should be prepared just in case, and above all, I can’t sleep because I’m nervous when I have senpai next to you.
“B-but…”
Senpai slowly approached me and held the hem of my clothes weakly as she had done before.
Her golden eyes, covered with a thin film of tears, looked up at me and shook her soft eyes like a candle flame.
“…I know it was selfish of me to bring you here, but I can’t stand the thought of making a friend feel uncomfortable because of it. If sleeping together is a problem, then I’ll sleep on the sofa, so Itomori-kun will use the bed.”
I gasped, realizing that I had been thinking only of myself and not considering senpai’s position.
From senpai’s perspective, it’s no use feeling responsible for this situation.
I fully understand the desire to provide a decent place to sleep, with no decent food, a sofa for bed, or at least a decent place to sleep.
“…A-alright. Then at least let’s put some cushions or something between us as a barrier.”
“Are you going to sleep with me?”
“No, I can’t let senpai sleep on the sofa.”
“…Thank you.”
She held my clothes and pulled me towards the bedroom.
“Actually, I don’t like the sound of thunder… I want someone I liked to be by my side.”
Her face was as red as the summer sun, and she was so beautiful that my heart was about to burst.

“…The rain won’t stop.”
“…Yeah.”
It was past eleven o’clock in the night.
As decided, we had built a barrier between the beds, and we lay with it on our backs.
The sound of thunder. The sound of rain pounding on the roof. The sound of the wind rolling something. The chorus of nature is so annoying that I don’t have time to be nervous.
“…I’m sorry. I’m really, really, really sorry.”
“Please don’t apologize. I had a lot of fun today. I was able to ride a private jet to Okinawa and watch a B-rated movie, and I was able to brag about high-quality wine that I could use for the rest of my life.”
I didn’t want senpai to feel gloomy, so I said it in a playful voice as much as I could.
In fact, I don’t mind about this situation.
Of course, I want to go home, but I feel lonely even if I’m alone in that six-tatami room. In that case, it would be much better to be with senpai in a storm.
“Do senpai have villas like this all over the world?”
I talked about the appropriate topic because I didn’t want senpai to apologize anymore.
“No. Just this one.”
“Oh. Then, you like Okinawa.”
“…I mean, I like Okinawa, but I have memories in this house.”
Suddenly the sound of the wind stopped.
The sound of rain also subsides, and two breaths dominate the eight-tatami bedroom.
“My mother used to be a painter. This was originally one of her studios, and she used to bring me here when I was little, and we’d paint together.”
“By you mean used to be… does that mean she doesn’t paint anymore?”
“She died of illness before I went to elementary school. While sorting through the inheritance, we had to let go of this place because we couldn’t maintain it.”
It’s not good, so I take a breath.
I completely stepped on a mine.
I had asked something I shouldn’t have.
Perhaps she realized that I was confused about what to do, senpai said in a soft tone, “Don’t worry about it.”
“It was more than ten years ago. Besides, I’m really grateful to Itomori-kun.”
“…I don’t think I’ve done anything to deserve your thanks.”
The bed creaked.
The sound told me that senpai had turned her head to me.
“When I decided to buy this place back, I didn’t even look at it before making the decision. Today is the first time I’ve come here since I bought it. … I thought I’d be sad if I came here and remembered a lot of things and cried. I was so scared that I couldn’t come all the time.”
Senpai laughed self-deprecatingly. Like she was saying I look like a child, don’t I?
“That’s why I thought I’d go with Itomori-kun. If Itomori-kun is here, I can keep smiling and have fun. That’s what my mom would want most.”
I wondered if it would be all right for her mother to have a man with whom she barely knew.
I thought there might be someone better.
But senpai’s voice was so happy that I couldn’t bring myself to say anything sarcastic.
“Well, I’ve been feeling a little fluffy all day. I’ll go get some water.”
“If you empty a bottle of wine and awamori drinks that much, you’re going to feel that way.”
“I don’t like it. What should I do if I get a hangover?”
She grumbled out of bed and left the bedroom.
Suddenly the wind began to blow again, and raindrops rattled the windows.
“…Mom, huh.”
My mother’s face passed through my mind because of senpai’s story.
It was that day we walked around the park together after being brought to an amusement park. I remember the warmth of her hands that I would never feel again, and I felt my eyes get hot.
I lay face down as if to shake it off, buried my face in the sheets, and let out a low groan.
At that moment…
A tremendous flash of light and a thunderstorm that shook the house followed afterward.
It must have struck somewhere close by.
“The power outage…?”
The night light in the bedroom went out, and my vision was completely dark.
I wonder if senpai will be okay. With this in mind, I looked at the door.
“Kyaaaaaaa!!”
Soon after, her screams shook my eardrums and I jumped out of bed.
