Chapter 04: It was only a faint smell, but you could feel it in real life
“Fuwa…”
“That’s a big yawn? You didn’t get enough sleep?”
“No… I’m simply sleepy.”
It wasn’t because of lack of sleep or anything, I was simply feeling sleepy.
“Is it because you’re working way too hard at your part-time job? It’s pretty tiresome, isn’t it?”
“Not really. But, thanks for worrying about me, Yorihito.”
This guy who was looking at me with concern was Yorihito Kusakabe, a friend I had known since high school.
We had become good friends after being in the same class last year, and while I had a decent number of friends, Yorihito was particularly close to me.
“I’m just entertaining people in a mascot costume. It’s a piece of cake.”
“…I’ve no idea how you do it. If it were me, I’d die in the summer.”
“Yeah, you’ll.”
“Don’t say that so confidently.”
He lightly poked me on the forehead.
As we were playing around, the classroom suddenly became noisy…and there was only one reason for it.
“The princesses are coming to school.”
“It seems so.”
The two girls who entered the classroom from the entranceway were a dazzling pair of beauties.
They had been the talk of the school since they entered, and they had been asked out by countless boys, but they had turned down every single one of them with a guard as strong as steel… Yes, they were Minase and Aizawa.
(…I really did become friends with those two, huh…)
As I thought about that, the two girls passed by us without a word.
As classmates, we were greeted with a good morning, but that was it.
They had no friendly vibe that they had shown in the streets.
“They are still beautiful, aren’t they?”
“Yeah, I wonder if someone will confess to them today.”
“Maybe, I heard a rumor that a handsome guy from the soccer team will do it.”
“That rumor sounds too good to be true.”
“You’re right.”
According to one theory, spreading rumors like this was a way to create a situation that would be difficult for them to refuse, but it was clear that no matter what happened, they wouldn’t agree, after having talked to them a bit.
(I learned that not only are those two dating, but they also have a reluctance towards men.)
I also heard as Tsukki that both of them had been stalked in junior high school, which made them dislike men.
I wondered about myself in that situation, but it seemed that to them, I might have appeared to be just a mascot.
“Good morning, both of you.”
“Oh, good morning, class president.”
“Yo, president.”
A girl with sharp eyes called out to us from behind.
She was the class representative and her name was Aki Shinozaki, a classmate who could hold a decent conversation.
“What were you talking about?”
“Oh, just about whether those two will get confessed to again today.”
“Ahh…”
The class president, who seemed to have understood everything with Yorihito’s single remark, looked at the two of them with pity.
“Those two are very popular, but there are people who don’t look kindly on them rejecting confessions. I hope nothing happens…”
I see, there might be jealousy among the girls after all.
With them being so beautiful, it’s unlikely that boys would become enemies unless something drastic happens. Plus, they don’t have a bad personality, so it’s unlikely they would get any resentment… However, when it comes to jealousy, there’s not much you can do about it.
“I hope I can help if anything happens. As a classmate.”
“Huh? That’s true, but I never expected you to say that.”
Thinking about these girls I just said so.
Although we were in the same class, I had never talked to Minase or Aizawa, so I had never made a statement like this before.
“No way you…”
“It’s not what you’re thinking.”
I interrupted before he could get the wrong idea.
It’s true that I was interested, but precisely because I knew their relationship, I would never do anything to ruin it.
And as a man who loves yuri, my job was to watch over such ladies.
“But isn’t it okay? We know that Sakuya-kun’s kind… right?”
“Well, that’s certainly true… huh?”
“What’s wrong?”
For some reason, the two of them froze and looked behind me. When I tilted my head wondering what was going on, I suddenly heard a voice from behind.
“Ihomote-kun.”
“!?”
I flinched and unintentionally made a loud noise.
Fortunately, there wasn’t anyone around who seemed to have been bothered by the noise, as it was still quite noisy. However, I was surprised because I recognized the voice that had just called me.
“What’s wrong? Ihomote-kun.”
“No, it’s nothing.”
When I turned around, Aizawa was there.
She wasn’t looking at me in the playful way she usually did as Tsukki, but rather with a neutral and somewhat lifeless gaze that seemed to look only at other men.
“You and I will be on day duty today.”
“… Huh?”
When I looked at the blackboard, I saw that my name and Aizawa’s name were written there. I looked back at Aizawa, and she seemed to be saying, “Let’s go to the staff room,” so I stood up immediately.
“I’m going to the staff room.”
“See you later.”
“Aizawa-san, make sure he doesn’t get lost.”
“I’m not a kid!”
I shouted, but Aizawa didn’t react to our exchange at all.
After that, we went straight to the staff room without saying a word, and even afterwards, there was no conversation until we received the diary and walked down the hallway again.
(Tsukki is amazing, after all. Or rather, if I didn’t have any interaction with my classmates, this is what it would be like.)
Well, it’s not like I was sad about it, but rather it was much better than being overly involved and being suspected.
As for me, I don’t want to be an odd note in their relationship, no matter what happens… Well, the situation is quite pleasing though.
(Kukuku, I know a secret that others don’t know. I’m the only one who can support their precious relationship. It feels so good!)
Ideally, it would be best if all human beings could affirm and accept yuri, and support their relationship. But alas, it’s a tough world out there.
In the end, there was no conversation until we returned to the classroom with the diary. And it was the same until after school, where we wrote our thoughts on the day while looking at the diary together.
“I always feel like this is such a hassle.”
“But there’s no way around it. It’s our job as the duty team.”
“Yeah.”
“Mm.”
Conversation over. By the way, Minase was also nearby, watching over Aizawa.
Most people would feel awkward in this situation, but I was different— I felt extremely comfortable, and my heart was racing.
“…Hmm?”
In the midst of all this, I noticed something, but we finished writing in the diary at that moment.
As a final touch, Aizawa and I headed to the staff room again, and our job was done after we gave the diary to the teacher.
“Good work.”
“Yeah. Good work, Aizawa-san.”
Minase was waiting diligently for Aizawa, and I was happy and excited that the two of them were going to enjoy a date after school.
As I felt the waves of their love in the air, I picked up a vase and started walking.
Actually, I just noticed something about this vase— I realized that the water inside hadn’t changed.
“White lilies(yuri)… don’t deserve to have dirty water, right?”
I remembered that the white lily symbolizes purity and innocence, which is perfect for their precious relationship.
“Where are you going?”
“Huh? Oh, the water was dirty. It’s the job of the Beautification Committee, but I thought the flowers wouldn’t like it with dirty water.”
“I see.”
“Anyway, you two can go now. I’ll clean this up and head home.”
I hope the two of them can create some yuri vibes and make me happy when they’re alone together.
That’s what I was thinking, but why did it turn out like this?
“Here, let me borrow the vase.”
“Okay.”
“Can I throw away this newspaper now?”
“Yeah, sure.”
They helped me even though it wasn’t really necessary.
But it was natural to finish quickly with their help, even if it was just a little bit. After that, we put the flowers back in the clean vase and returned it to its original place.
“Wow, it looks beautiful now.”
“Yeah, and it seems to have more life to it, doesn’t it?”
“That’s true. Oh, sorry Yuka, I need to go to the restroom for a bit.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll wait for you.”
Amazing… even just seeing Minase off, she had a beautiful smile. Whatever they do or talk about, their expressions show how precious they are to each other with their smiles.
Thinking that I can sleep well today too, I put on my backpack when it happened.
“…”
“Is something wrong?”
For some reason, Minase was staring at me.
She was silent for a while but then shook her head, so I left the classroom feeling uneasy.
“…Oh no! Rito is coming over today!”
Sangou was going out with friends, so Rito had nothing to do. We had made a promise to watch some yuri anime together, and I had prepared two shows for him…
That was close! I was neglecting my important mission.
“‘Strawberry Panic!’ and ‘Maria-sama by my side’, let’s go drown in yuri swamp!”
That day, Rito fell even deeper into the yuri swamp… and Sangou, who had a vague sense of it, became interested as well.
