Interlude: A Simple Boy and A Gorgeous Girl
“I’m home.”
I arrived home a little later than usual.
Hasumi, on the other hand, appeared to be in a very good mood today. She’d never approached me right after school before.
Maybe she’s been in a good mood ever since this morning, but I couldn’t really tell because I was starving.
It’s nice for her to be in a good mood from time to time.
When I opened the door to the living room, I saw my father standing there reading a magazine.
“Oh, Makoto. You’re late. I need to speak with you, so please take a seat.”
He put down the motorcycle magazine he was reading and motioned for me to take a seat.
I was curious because, even though I was a bit late, it was still quite early.
“You’re up earlier than usual today, Dad. Is Mom out shopping?”
“Yes, there’s still a bit of time before Mom returns.”
My father said so in a very suspicious-like tone.
I believe he’s thinking of something stupid again.
“What is it?”
“You want to get your bike by summer vacation, right? So, here are the driving school admission papers; I’ll transfer the money to your account, so you can pay me back later, okay?”
He said that in a way that sounded like he was trying to make a good impression on me, and then he handed me the papers on the table. Furthermore, all of the fields were already filled out, and it appeared that all I had to do was submit the form.
I stated unequivocally that I definitely desired it, but I don’t recall saying anything about wanting to have it before summer begins.
“I’m fine, I’ll work part-time during the summer to save some money for it.”
“No, no, no.”
My father, for some reason, refuses to let me cover for it.
“Why the hell not?”
“Because I’d like to have a new bike by the start of the summer touring season.”
“What is it about, and what does that have to do with this?”
“I’m going to use the fact that I gave you the bike as an excuse to convince mom for a new one. Isn’t that a good plan? It’s called ‘Operation Good Dad’.” (TLN: Based chad)
I know my dad has been begging mom for a new bike lately like a spoiled brat, but he’s been busted on everything he’s done so far.
I had no idea he was seriously considering using this as an excuse. The part where he bragged about his so-called ‘plan’ irritates me and makes me want to punch him right in the face.
“…I don’t think so. Did you come home early to discuss this with me?”
“Definitely. Since Mom is a stay-at-home mother, this is the only time I get to talk with you alone. I dashed to the bank to deposit the funds in time for the bonus payday.”
Dad smiled broadly as he said this. No good, this guy, he’s an idiot…
He must have noticed that I was staring at him with a stern expression on my face, because he clasped his hands and asked me for a favor.
“Please, Makoto. I’m begging you. This is the only way I’ll be able to afford a new bike. Besides, it’s almost test week, right? Use that as an excuse to comb through at night.
You’ll have plenty of time to practice if you give it a month.”
“You want me to prioritize riding a bike over my studies? How’s that any good parental guidance?”
“Asshole, you’re going to have to do both, otherwise Mom’s gonna be upset with me.”
Now, which one of us is the idiot here? I am dumbfounded by his thoughts.
This guy… I’m confident that my sister and I inherited our father’s pace.
“Well, I want it just as much as you do, so why not?”
When it comes to his hobbies, he’s very good at making plans. My sister and I are the same, but our family is really full of hobbyists. I’m really sorry that we’re always upsetting mom due to that.
“I’m glad we were able to reach an agreement before Mom arrived. Good luck. I’m going to start looking for a new bike immediately .”
Dad walked out of the living room humming a song happily. Saki, my younger sister, appeared to have returned around the same time as he left.
“Welcome back.”
“I’m home. Did something good happen? Dad had a huge smile on his face.”
“It’s his usual sick behavior.”
“Yes, I see. He’s really carefree, isn’t he?”
I manage to swallow the words, “You’re not so different when it comes to freedom, you know.”
If I do say that, it’s just gonna end up in a fight, so I’ll just keep my mouth shut.
“Speaking of which, did you stay up all night again? You’ve got bags under your eyes, don’t you?”
‘
“Big brother, you’re really creepy…… You’re too sensitive to notice such things even with this flawless makeup plastered on your sister’s face.”
I know it’s because you don’t know how to adjust your schedule and often fall asleep. You’re the one who always makes me rush back.
“I’m fine because I only fall asleep at home. After all, I’m almost done.”
Is that okay? But I thought it would be pitiful to stop my sister from saying that with blazing eyes, so I let her do as she liked.
“I’ll let you do what you want, but do it in moderation.”
“Yes, yes, yes. I’ll show you when I’m done.”
She smiled with a grin on her face and chugged her coffee, and then ran out of the house.
She may look like a gal, but she loves to read and draw manga, and spends every spare moment she has drawing them.
Well, I’ll keep an eye on her for a little bit.
So I went back to my room to play a game.

“I’m back.”
My voice was the only sound in the otherwise silent room. I ended up talking to him until after school because I couldn’t talk to him in the morning.
But it was a lot of fun, so I think I’ll talk to him again tomorrow.
I set my bag down, took a shower, changed my clothes, and began preparing a simple meal.
I don’t expect anyone to eat it, so I didn’t put much effort into it. All that matters is that I can fill my stomach after all.
The only sound you could hear was the knife slamming against the cutting board, and when the food was ready, I began to eat it without saying anything as thanks.
However, since I had a good time on my way home today, I felt a little sad.
I turned on the television and tried to find something to watch, but nothing remotely interesting seemed to be on currently.
The meal, which was supposed to be warmer than lunch, was freezing.
I just stared at the ceiling after finishing dinner.
“……Things I’d like to do, you say. But I can’t think of anything.”
All I could hear was the ticking of the clock, with no specific image in mind.
To be honest, I’ve never considered what I wanted to do because I don’t have any time to live in the present.
But I’m guessing we’ll be switching seats soon.
Your hard times seem to last longer, and your fun times seem to get over in a jiffy.
Everyone claims that time is equal, but that’s a lie.
“I despise having to leave him.”
I muttered to myself quietly, but the words kept lingering in my ears.
Then, as if to shake off my unpleasant thoughts, I grabbed one of my favorite books from the shelf and disappeared into the world that had come to a halt
