A day off.
For people who work on weekdays, it’s a day to rest. Most folks head out somewhere, play the games they’ve been putting off, or watch videos of their favorite idols on their phones.
“Hey, Yusuke! Over here~!”
In the middle of all that, I’d been called out by a certain someone and was heading outside. I walked toward the person waving at me.
“Sorry, I’m late.”
“It’s fine. I’m the one who called you, after all.”
That person, Manaka Ashida, stood up from the bench and smiled when she saw my face. Her outfit… didn’t look like casual clothes at all.
“So what’s up? It doesn’t really feel like we’re going somewhere…”
“…I’d love to hang out if we could, but I actually need a little help from you, Yusuke. Yuna-chan’s helping too.”
“Yuna-chan? What are you two doing?”
“We’re having a small meeting about a collaboration. We were thinking of doing something together with the people who joined our companies around the same time, but we can’t come up with any good ideas.”
“…What’s Soji doing?”
“Ah… Soji-nii has some… woman troubles… no, a date… wait, not that either…”
“?”
“…Anyway, he has something he absolutely can’t get out of right now, so he’s not here. It’s fine though; the meeting is my job, so we don’t need him.”
As she spoke, Manaka casually took my hand.
“Come on, let’s hurry to the meeting spot. Time waits for no one.”
“H-hey, wait! You don’t have to drag me like that…!”
I’m gonna trip, I’m gonna trip!
Even as her usual pushiness put me at ease, I let her pull me along to the meeting.
◇
“Senpai… thank you so much. I’m sorry for bothering you.”
“No, it’s okay. I’ve got nothing but time.”
“…Please don’t say it like you’re unemployed. It makes me feel weird.”
“Ah, haha…”
Her sharp tongue hadn’t changed a bit. I gave a strained smile.
After Manaka had dragged me out, we finished the meeting with the people we’d be collaborating with in the future.
Though all I really did was tell them to just do whatever they wanted…
“That’s not all, right? You gave everyone all kinds of advice.”
“…Y-Yuna-chan? Did you just read my mind?”
“No. I just thought, ‘That’s something senpai would do.’ Looks like I was right?”
“Urk…”
“Sigh… Everyone was thanking you, you know? They said it was really helpful.”
“I-I see…”
I hadn’t noticed because right after the meeting, Manaka had dragged me off to do a bunch of work stuff.
“…Up until the other day, you were only my senpai.”
I thought I heard her mutter something like that under her breath. I turned toward Yuna-chan without thinking, but she looked exactly the same as always.
“Are you going to edit videos after this, Yuna-chan?”
“Yeah… Manaka-san hasn’t said anything else, so if things go as usual, I’ll head home and edit.”
She had technically made her V debut, but most of her videos were secondary creations—the kind people call “yukkuri”—so she didn’t stream live very often.
…Manaka hadn’t said anything more, and she told me it was fine to go home, so I guess it’s okay.
“If you don’t mind, could I watch you edit?”
“Eh?”
…Huh? What’s wrong? She’s completely frozen.
“Are you serious, senpai?”
“Eh?”
“W-watching me edit means… um… that kind of…”
“…That kind of…?”
“…I-it’s fine! Since it’s just my thick-headed, insensitive, idiot senpai, I’ll make a special exception and let you watch!”
Hearing her rattle off a string of insults I’d definitely heard before, delivered in Yuna-chan’s usual venomous tone, really hit me hard.
“R-right, let’s get going then!”
“Oh my, that conversation. Mind if I join?”
“…!”
Someone cut in just as Yuna-chan was speaking.
“Manaka?”
“I happened to overhear something interesting. I’ve always been curious about how Yuna-chan edits her videos… You don’t mind, right?”
“…”
“…Yuna-chan?”
That’s weird. These two are supposed to be good friends, but right now it feels like sparks are flying between them.
“…Are you sure work is okay?”
“Yes. Thanks to Yusuke, almost everything is taken care of.”
“Then why not rest and recharge? You don’t need to worry about someone like me.”
“That’s a good idea. But I’d like to visit your place… Is that not allowed?”
“…”
“…”
They’re good friends, right? That’s weird… They really don’t look like it at all right now…
“…Fine. It wouldn’t be fair to only favor senpai. Please come. You’re both welcome.”
“Thank you. I’m glad Yuna-chan gave permission. Come on, Yusuke, let’s go.”
“Eh? But—”
“Is there a problem?”
“…N-no, ma’am.”
For some reason, my instincts screamed that I absolutely should not go against Manaka right now.
And so, I ended up going with Manaka to Yuna-chan’s house.
…The whole way there, the two of them kept shooting sparks at each other.
