Chapter 85: On the Way to School in the Morning
“…Hey, do I really have to do this?”
Rinmei stood by the door, looking down and holding her skirt with a shy expression. Unlike her usual casual style, she looked adorable in her school uniform.
“Kanna and Sayaka both requested it. They said they wanted to see you in uniform.”
“Ugh…I wish they hadn’t asked…”
It couldn’t be helped. Both of them had even gotten up earlier than me this morning, which was rare. That showed how much they were looking forward to this. I wasn’t foolish enough to ignore their expectations.
“It’s fine. The uniform looks good on you, Rinmei. There’s nothing to be embarrassed about.”
“It’s not that…! Eiji, you idiot, moron, dummy!”
“Why am I getting insulted?”
I couldn’t help but think that as Rinmei, like yesterday, started hitting me—pretty hard, actually.
“Eiji-saaan! What’s taking so long?”
Sayaka’s voice called out from behind the door, sounding like her patience was running out.
“Ugh…”
“Just give it up. You’ve come this far; there’s no escaping now.”
Realizing this, her face turned red, even though her expression was usually unreadable.
“We’re ready over here too! I’m coming in!”
Thinking it was pointless to waste more time, I ignored her quiet “W-wait…!” and opened the door to the living room.
“Wow…!”
Inside were Sayaka with sparkling eyes and Kanna, who was smiling warmly while looking at Rinmei.
Both of them looked genuinely happy as they gazed at her, while Rinmei hid shyly behind me, clutching her skirt with both hands.
“Come on, Rinmei.”
“Ah…!”
I gently nudged her forward, and with no way left to escape, Rinmei blushed and faced them.
“…How…how does it look?”
“It’s perfect! You look amazing, Rinmei! So cute!”
Sayaka was visibly excited at her cuteness.
“Yes. Seeing you in uniform after so long, you still look like a doll.”
Kanna chuckled softly as she watched, her smile deepening. Unable to react to their responses, Rinmei simply stood there.
I wanted to keep watching the lively scene with the three of them, but…
“All right, everyone, it’s time for breakfast. If we take too long, we’ll be late for school.”
“…That’s true. As much as I’d like to see Rinmei in uniform a little longer, I suppose we have to. Sayaka, go get ready.”
“Okaaay! So, Rinmei, let’s go together, okay?”
“Ugh…don’t get so carried away…”
But Sayaka didn’t seem to hear her, sweeping Rinmei up as she did.
Watching them, I went about preparing breakfast as usual.
◇
“The weather forecast says it’ll rain today, so don’t forget your umbrellas.”
I reminded them, but it looked like I didn’t need to worry. They had brought cute umbrellas with them.
“Hey, Eiji. Since we’re here, why don’t we take a picture?”
“…There’s no need for that. We should just get to school.”
“Oh, come on. Why not? It’s a memorable day, after all.”
“…K-Kanna?”
“Yes. We still have time before we need to leave for school, so it should be fine.”
“E-even you, Eiji…!”
Even though they pushed the idea, it wasn’t a big deal to take a photo. I raised my phone in their direction.
“Everyone’s acting weird today…! There’s no need to go this far…!”
“It’s fine. It really is a memorable day. Make sure to take a good one, Eiji.”
“Got it. Here we go.”
I took the picture as they struck an adorable pose. Rinmei’s face, blushing a lot today, made the scene all the more endearing.
“L-let’s just go already!”
Unable to endure the atmosphere, Rinmei grabbed Sayaka’s hand and pulled her along.
“Hey, wait! We’ll see you both later!”
As I heard Sayaka’s voice calling after her, the door shut, and a familiar silence fell over the house once again.
“…Rinmei didn’t seem worried, but will she be all right?”
Kanna looked at her with concern, but I was pretty sure she’d be fine.
“…She’s tougher than you think, and she has a way of handling things in her own way.”
“? What do you mean by that?”
Kanna tilted her head, not understanding, but I simply started heading back to the living room.
“Come on, Kanna. Let’s focus on what we need to do. Rinmei will be fine.”
“If you say so…”
Though she looked anxiously toward the door, I was confident Rinmei would manage.
After all…the look on Rinmei’s face yesterday was rather devious.
And I realized…dealing with girls could be pretty scary.

Chapter 86: The Battlefield Called School
Under a blue sky dotted with thin clouds, the lively sounds of the school echoed as usual.
In this school, there were people focused on club activities, others concentrating on their studies—a variety of people gathered here. And in her own class, Class 1-C, it was no different. Conversations buzzed, showing the usual scene of students engaged in their topics.
The teacher’s sluggish lecture, students frantically studying after learning about a pop quiz, and others staring blankly out the window…It was an ordinary day, but that mundane routine was about to change due to a certain person.
The sound of the classroom door opening echoed. The students turned to look at the entrance, and then they froze, speechless. Was it a mistake? No, it couldn’t be. The person standing there was a classmate, someone unforgettable.
“…Hey, if I’m not mistaken, isn’t that…”
“Idiot! There’s no way…That person wouldn’t just come to school…”
“Then why is she here? And acting so calm?”
As such conversations flew around, she—Rinmei—walked in as if nothing were out of the ordinary, heading to take her seat.
“…Huh? Oh, right…My seat changed.”
Noticing someone already sitting in the spot she’d gone to, she headed over to the teacher’s desk to check the seating chart.
After locating her new seat, she approached the desk, where a group of male students had gathered.
“…This is my seat. Move.”
“Oh…Sorry…”
Without a word of protest, the boys, intimidated, stepped away from her desk. Rinmei hung her bag on the side of the desk and took her seat.
‘…………’
The previously lively classroom fell silent, with everyone staring at her. Yet, oblivious to their attention, Rinmei simply put on her headphones, beginning her daily music routine.
“…Hehe.”
It was a song Eiji had recommended, one of his favorites. Just knowing this made Rinmei’s lips curve up in a small smile.
‘…?!’
Everyone was stunned. They had never seen Rinmei smile or even change her expression. For them, the unsociable, stone-faced Rinmei was the norm. But now, that assumption had been shattered.
Seeing her smile was a shock.
“Hahaha! Man, something hilarious happened today!”
A loud voice abruptly interrupted the quiet atmosphere.
It was him. Recognizing the voice, everyone frowned instinctively.
There he was—sporting bleached blond hair in violation of school rules, a guy with a notorious reputation: Keisuke Kusuhara.
Rumors linked him to the underworld, making him one of the school’s dangerous figures. He was the very reason Rinmei had stopped attending school for a time.
It was this same person who had posted hate comments on her videos, making him a foolish, pitiful figure in many ways.
His entourage, also known for causing trouble, followed him into Class 1-C, to the dismay of the school faculty.
Nobody could stand up to them. No one wanted to risk what would happen if they did, so the other students all looked away…all except for one.
Rinmei, unaware of the boys’ arrival, continued to listen to the music Eiji had recommended.
“Ha…hahaha…ha?”
Noticing her, Keisuke’s laughter abruptly stopped. His companions also noticed and, following his gaze, were equally shocked to see her sitting there as if nothing had happened.
“…Why…Why the hell are you here?!”
Fuming with anger, he stomped closer, the entire class watching anxiously…all except Rinmei.
“Why the hell are you at school, Kō?!”
At his shout, she finally noticed him in front of her.
And her first response?
“…Who was it, again?”
Her voice was calm, as if she’d truly forgotten the person standing before her.
