Chapter 12: An Email and a Difficult Situation
“Ahh… it’s finally done!”
Stretching my body, I check the highlight video of the live stream that Kanna-san recently uploaded.
As expected, since Kanna-san is popular, other channels also have their own highlight clips.
“I think I edited it to be easier to watch compared to others… I hope it’s okay.”
Well, there’s no point in worrying since I haven’t even posted it yet. Thinking like that, I upload Kanna-san’s highlight video.
“Phew… Wait, is it already this late?”
Did I take too long? Looking out the window, I see that it has already gotten dark, and it seems like night is about to fall.
“Maybe I was too careful since it’s my first time? Well, I’ll get used to it little by little.”
Wait, this isn’t good. I need to start preparing dinner. Forcing my tired body to move, I leave the room set up for Kanna-san’s streams and head straight to the living room.
“Excuse me, Kanna-san. I lost track of time.”
“That’s not fair, Kanna-san!”
“…?”
What’s going on?
Entering the living room, I see Sayaka-chan and Rinmei confronting Kanna-san while showing something on their phones. Kanna-san, however, remains unfazed, calmly sitting in a chair.
“Um… did something happen?”
“Oh, Eiji-san. Thanks for your hard work on the editing. I made some coffee, so please help yourself.”
No, Kanna-san? I can’t drink coffee in this kind of situation, can I??
“…Eiji, Kanna is being unfair.”
“U-unfair?”
“Yes, Eiji-san!!”
Suddenly, Sayaka-chan, looking quite angry, rushes over to me.
“I want you to edit my videos too, but Kanna-san won’t allow it! That’s totally unfair!!”
“Uh, well…”
“…And Kanna is making Eiji do her editing… it’s unfair.”
Saying that, Rinmei shows me the highlight video I just uploaded. Also, the view count is quietly increasing, and for some reason, many people seem to be subscribing too…
“How did you know that I made this video?”
“Of course I knew. I’ve watched so many of your videos, Eiji-san. And… Kanna-san proudly posted it on X.”
Sayaka-chan gives Kanna-san a sharp look, but Kanna-san just sips her coffee without a care.
“Kanna-san, when did you post that?”
“I did it while Eiji-san was editing. Also, I created an account on your phone.”
“What!?”
In Kanna-san’s hand is my phone, showing the account she must have created for me.
(Huh? I thought I set a password. How did she unlock it?)
“Eiji-san, please say something! I want you to edit my videos too!!”
“…I also want Eiji to edit mine.”
Ugh… Since Kanna-san took me in, it’s not easy to refuse her, but maybe I should try saying something?
“Um, Kanna-san, could you please listen to their requests? I’ll make sure to edit everything properly.”
“No. I refuse.”
“C-can’t you reconsider?”
“Eiji-san…”
Suddenly, Kanna-san’s eyes lose their light, and she stares straight at me.
“You belong to me, you know? Do you dislike editing my videos that much?”
“N-no, that’s not what I’m saying…”
W-what is this? Kanna-san’s mood suddenly changed…
“Aah… this isn’t going to work…”
“…Kanna is unfair.”
“Wait, both of you?”
Contrary to their earlier frustration, both of them seem to have given up.
“Sigh… I really wanted Eiji-san to edit my videos too…”
“…Too bad.”
“Um… are you sure it’s okay?”
“Eiji-san, once Kanna-san is like that, no one can stop her. Look at her now.”
Following Sayaka-chan’s gaze, I see Kanna-san drinking straight from a bottle of alcohol she must have taken from the fridge.
“…What?”
“Eiji-saan… you’re miiine!!”
“Whoa!?”
Suddenly, she rushes over and hugs me tightly.
“Ehehe… Eiji-saan. My Eiji-san. You belong to me, so you can’t go anywhere, okay~?”
Her tight hug presses her large chest against me… and it’s uncomfortable, not to mention the smell of alcohol…
“Come on, Kanna-san! I’ve given up on the video editing, but hugging Eiji-san is crossing the line! That’s unfair!!”
“…Let go of Eiji.”
“Nooo! I won’t let gooo! I want to hug Eiji-saan!!”
For some reason, Kanna-san is acting like a child, and Rinmei and Sayaka-chan are desperately trying to pull her away from me.
(…I feel like my initial impression of her is slowly crumbling…)
With the image of a completely disheveled Kanna-san burned into my mind, I spent the rest of the day in chaos.
—
A few days later, as this kind of life continued, my phone rang from where it was placed on the table.
(Hm? Who could it be?)
I stop vacuuming and check my phone… and my face twists in displeasure.
(…Now, of all times? Who do they think they are?)
But this is my issue to deal with as well.
After reading the email thoroughly, I grab my phone and prepare to head out. I sent a message to Kanna-san, who’s still streaming in her room.
“Sorry, Kanna-san. I have something to take care of, so I’ll be going out.”
After sending that, I leave the house.
The email read as follows:
“I want to talk. Come back to the company.”

Chapter 13: Resignation
“…I never thought I’d be back here just a few days later.”
The company where I once worked as if my life depended on it—AO Brittia.
Even though it hasn’t been that long since I left, it feels like something from a distant past.
I straighten the tie on my suit, making sure I’m presentable, and head inside the company.
◇
“Oh, you’re here. Took you long enough.”
As I enter the office as usual, I find my boss and a few others there.
Everyone except the boss looks uncomfortable and avoids meeting my eyes. Do they feel guilty for abandoning me?
“…So, what do you need?”
“Hm? What’s with that attitude? Is that how you speak to your superior?”
“…”
“Well, I’ll let it slide for now.”
Maybe because he sensed something different in me, he straightened up before dropping a bombshell.
“Starting tomorrow, you’ll be back at work.”
“…What?”
I couldn’t believe my ears. What is this man even saying? I had a bad feeling the moment I was called back, but I never expected him to say something this outrageous.
“…I have a lot I’d like to say, but what’s your reason?”
He lets out a deep sigh, looking at me as if I were a hopeless child or employee.
“You don’t get it, do you? Ever since you left, we’ve been in a real mess.”
Then, he begins his usual long-winded, pointless explanation.
According to him, this is what happened:
After they let me go, they dumped all of my work onto a new hire—on their very first day.
Now, I’m not trying to brag, but I always felt like I was doing several times more work than anyone else.
There’s no way someone who just started could handle all that, so within a few days, the new hire submitted their resignation and left the company.
With no one else to dump the work on, the boss started piling it onto everyone else. But with the added workload, people slowly started suffering from depression or quitting altogether.
On top of that, once streamers realized I wasn’t around anymore, many of them immediately canceled their contracts. The company, which was once considered a stable place to work, is now rapidly declining.
…Come to think of it, people were crowding around me when they found me earlier. Is that why?
“So yeah, that’s the situation. We’re really struggling without you.”
…You’re the one who fired me, so how can you still speak to me so condescendingly?
“I’m taking back your dismissal. So, come back to work tomorrow.”
He said it as if it were the most natural thing in the world. I was so dumbfounded that I couldn’t even react.
“…Sigh.”
Does he really think I’d just come back? After being used like a disposable rag and tossed aside when I was no longer needed… I can’t even get angry anymore.
“…Tell me something. What is this company to you? What do you think of the people who’ve quit?”
“Hm? What are you talking about?”
As if it were obvious, he replied,
“It’s just a way to make money. This company doesn’t mean anything to me. If anyone has sentimental attachments to it, they’re just idiots.”
“Idiots, huh?”
“Exactly. And the people working under me? They’re just money-making slaves… Isn’t that right, everyone?”
He turns to look at the people behind him, who silently nod while clenching their fists, not daring to speak the truth.
(…I see. This is how I looked from the outside, too.)
…I really need to thank Kanna and the others again. They took me in when I had nowhere else to go.
So, to not betray their trust, I speak up to the man who used to be my boss.
“I refuse.”
“…What?”
He looks stunned, as if he doesn’t understand what I’m saying.
“I said, I refuse.”
“…Do you think you can talk back to me like that?”
His voice is filled with anger. He clearly didn’t expect this response.
“I know. Apparently, your parents don’t know that you quit this job. What do you think will happen if I tell them…?”
…It’s true. I haven’t told my parents about this yet. They’d probably be devastated. I can imagine their sadness. But even so…
“You don’t need to worry about that. I’ll tell them myself.”
More than anything, I couldn’t bring myself to betray the people who took me in.
“Hmph… So that’s your answer.”
Suddenly, the people behind him block the exit.
“So, how about you stay here until you change your mind?”
“…Was that your plan all along?”
“You’re going to work whether you like it or not. And for all those things you said to me… you’re going to pay for them with hard work.”
…Well, I figured this idiot would pull something like this.
That’s why I came prepared.
“…I have a phone here with a recording of our conversation.”
“What!?”
The air in the room freezes as soon as I say that. But I calmly continue fiddling with my phone.
“And I’m thinking of posting this recording on YouTube and social media. If you don’t want that, then let me walk out of here. And don’t ever contact me again.”
“Y-You! Do you even understand what you’re doing!?”
“I understand perfectly. Oh, and don’t bother trying to take my phone or delete the recording. I’ve already backed it up on another device.”
With that, I face the boss, who is now sweating profusely across the desk from me.
“…I came here today to hand this over to you.”
I pull out a resignation letter from my pocket and slam it down on the desk.
“…Thank you for everything. Take care.”
With that, I walk past the still-shocked people and head for the exit.
And so, I severed ties with the company I had worked for all this time.

Wow, boldly signing that bankruptcy form by threatening a streamer’s beloved.
