- Chapter 14 - Cool childhood friend... boyfriend and vows
Yuu-kun… No. While I was kissing Yuu, I was remembering the events of the past in a flashback.
The first time I met Yuu was in the Tulip class of the kindergarten I attended.
That day I was playing with the building blocks, arranging them in a horizontal line, not taking into account the width of the classroom. There was no particular reason for this, but if I had to guess, I was probably wondering how far these blocks would extend if I kept arranging them in a horizontal line.
If you hastily put the building blocks side by side, there are problems that will naturally arise.
All the blocks in the classroom are gone.
They can’t be placed side by side any more.
When I would realize this, I’d lose interest in the building blocks and move to the corner of the classroom so as not to disturb others playing. That is If it was a normal day.
But that day was different. One of the boys looked over at the blocks I had lined up and ran out into the hallway.
A few dozen seconds later, he seemed to have brought some building blocks from another class and started arranging them side by side in the middle of the blocks I had lined up. I was more than a little intrigued by this.
“What are you doing?”
“Can’t you see? I’m just putting the rest of it together.”
“What for?”
“There’s no such thing. I just did it because I wanted to. Is this not good enough?”
‘I think it’s good.”
That incident was the beginning of my interactions with Yuu.
I was a boring person, if I do say so myself. I never found anything I did enjoyable, and my facial expression never changed. And yet, the way Yuu looked at me was always sparkling.
Then one day, Yuu pointed his finger at me and told me.
“I will protect Yuki. So you will support me.”
“Why?”
“Just because. Don’t make me say it, I’m embarrassed!”
I really didn’t know what it meant at the time. But now I know. I know now that it was just a slightly changed line from an animated hero story that was on the air at the time.
Yuu still kept that childhood promise he made to me.
It was the same in elementary and middle school.
Thanks to the fact that he was always next to me, when people called us a “husband and wife duo,” he would say, “Ah, yeah!” and affirmed it to keep me away from other boys.
But when we were alone, he would earnestly apologize to me.
“I’m sorry, Yuki-san. I lied again.”
“O-Okay.”
Every time he did, I felt a little bothered. Now that I have been able to go out with Yuu, I understand. I knew that I had started to have feelings for Yuu since that time.
And it was in high school that this fondness became definitive.
I don’t want to recall too many details, but it was when I was in a state of misanthropy.
When I think back to that time, I want to stick up for myself.
I want to not lash out at the people I love.
But despite my outbursts, Yuu did not relent.

And so I ended the long kiss with Yuu. We looked at each other and laughed, both of us red in the face, and then we both sat back down on the sofa in good humor.
“Yuu?”
“What is it?”
“When we first met, we played with blocks.”
“We did that too, right?”
“I want to think of it this way. Those blocks were what brought Yuu and I together. Isn’t it romantic to think so?”
“Yeah….”
“Yuu?”
“Yu-Yuki, I have something to tell you.”
“O-Okay.”
Pressured by the mysterious intimidation, I flinched.
“I will definitely come to get you. I will become a respectable person, someone people can depend on. So, when the time comes, will you be my wife?”
“Ah, au…”
I was caught completely off guard. If you say that to me…
“Yuki?”
“Uuuu〜”
“It hurts a little. Don’t hit me.”
“I’ll definitely be… Yuu’s wife! And I’ll have lots of kids!”
“W-What do you mean? I want an understandable explanation, ok!? Yuki? Yuki-saaaan!”
Yuu called out to me behind my back, but I was too happy and my face was smiling and giggly, so I fled out of the living room and into my room.
