Chapter 45 : Filled With A Sense Of Happiness
For some reason, the first place Cecilia took me to was a theater.
Apparently, there was a place in the western district that specialized in theatrical performances.
We sat in the dimly lit venue, waiting for the play to begin, but before that, there was something I had to say.
“Hey, Cecilia…”
“Hmm? What is it?”
“This play… If I’m not mistaken, it says it’s a romance story.”
“Of course it does. It is a romance story, after all.”
“Why exactly do I have to watch a romance play with you?”
“Because it’s a date.”
“Oh, I see.”
…Wait a second.
So, because it’s a date, we’re watching a romance play together?
Now that she says it, that does make sense.
It’s a date, so there’s nothing strange about it.
—Wait, hold on!
Are Cecilia and I really at the stage where we go on dates to watch romance plays together!?
Could this be some kind of rehearsal for us becoming a couple in the future?
I haven’t triggered any kind of romantic flag with her, and I can’t imagine she has feelings for me — if anything, she’s only ever seen my most embarrassing moments.
At this point, I doubt her impression of me is anything special.
Which is exactly why I can’t make sense of this situation…
“Oh, it’s starting. I’m excited! This play has been getting quite popular among nobles lately.”
“Huh… I don’t really watch plays, so I doubt I’ll understand what’s so great about it.”
“Don’t say negative things during a date. Just watch, and you’ll see what’s good about it.”
“Is that how it works?”
Following Cecilia’s words, I stayed quiet and watched as the play began.
The story was about a noble lady’s romance.
A certain noblewoman, who initially saw a nobleman’s son as just an acquaintance, gradually started to notice him.
She realized her feelings after he saved her from a persistent suitor, and after many ups and downs, they ended up getting married.
[TL/N : This can’t be more obvious, why are these JP Protagonists so dumb.]
I had no idea what was supposed to be interesting about this, but Cecilia, who had clasped my hand tightly to keep me from running away, was completely captivated.
She watched with a serious expression, occasionally nodding in agreement as if she related to parts of the story.
Did this play really resonate with her that much?
Time passed, and eventually, the play came to an end.
The lights turned on, and the audience began to leave one by one.
People around us praised the store, some even had tears in their eyes.
I couldn’t relate to any of it.
“The play’s over. So, what did you think, Cecilia? For me, it was…”
As I turned to her, I was shocked.
Tears were streaming down Cecilia’s cheeks.
“C-Cecilia!? Why are you crying…?”
“Huh? Am I crying?”
“Just a little. Was it that good? Or rather, was it that moving?”
“Yes… It was a story I could really relate to. I’m truly glad we came today.”
“O-Oh… Well, that’s good, then.”
“What about you, Marius? Did you enjoy it?”
“Uh… yeah. It was fun. Watching a romance play every once in a while isn’t so bad.”
“Right? I’m glad you liked it, Marius.”
“Haha…”
That was a lie.
To be honest, I didn’t find it interesting at all.
But seeing Cecilia moved to tears, I couldn’t just say, “I didn’t enjoy it.”
I wasn’t about to destroy the mood that much.
“Argh, crying has made my throat dry. And I’m feeling hungry too — let’s have lunch next.”
“Got it. Where should we go? I doubt the restaurants around here will be too crowded.”
The western district was known as the nobles’ quarter.
Since there weren’t that many nobles, restaurants didn’t often get fully booked.
We’d probably find a place easily if we looked around.
“Let’s see… I have a restaurant I’d recommend, so let’s eat there.”
“A place recommended by you, huh? Now I’m curious.”
“I hope it suits your taste, Marius.”
Saying that, Cecilia once again linked arms with me.
The softness pressing against me created an indescribable tension.
“…Again with this?”
“Of course. We’ll be like this for the entire date. Just accept it and enjoy yourself a little, will you?”
“I really don’t see that happening.”
“That’s because you’re too uptight. Just stop thinking about it.”
“If I could do that, I wouldn’t be struggling right now.”
“Then try harder.”
“Not happening.”
And so, I was dragged by Cecilia as she led me toward her recommended restaurant.
She might be enjoying herself, but this date was turning out to be unexpectedly exhausting for me.
How many more hours of this do I have to endure…?
