Her voice was high-pitched. She must be a girl.

This situation felt familiar… Something was at the tip of my tongue but I couldn’t remember properly.

“Locket pendant… locket pendant… could it be?”

“Umm?”

The mysterious girl tilted her head, puzzled by my sudden muttering.

The maid and knight standing behind me also looked at me with questioning eyes.

“Hey, I’m sorry, but can I help you look for your lost item?”

“Huh? Do you have any idea where it might be?”

“I’m not sure, but I think I might know where it is.”

“Really!?”

The girl leaned in close, reacting to my words.

Woah, she is too close… Her jewel-like purple eyes sparkled with hope.

“I can’t guarantee it’s what you’re looking for, but if you’re okay with that, I have an idea where it might be…”

“Please! Even if there’s the slightest bit of hope, I want to hang on to it !”

“I-I see… But please, back off a little. It’s hard to stay calm like this.”

“Ah…”

As if finally realizing that she had gotten too close, the girl’s cheeks belatedly turned red. 

With surprising speed, she quickly stepped back and bowed her head apologetically.

“I’m so sorry! I got excited…”

“It’s fine. Let’s just hurry and look for your item. If we take too long, someone else might pick it up.”

“Yes… you’re right.”

We both felt a bit awkward as we began walking, keeping a reasonable distance between us. The girl, the knight, the maid, and I moved forward.

If my vague memory serves me right, I remembered seeing something dropped on a street lined with stalls.

But what if it’s not there…?

She seems to have really high expectations from me, but she might be left disappointed in the end. 

When that happens, I’ll apologize sincerely. At least she’ll know I tried.

“Why am I getting myself into this mess…”

I had only planned to look around the royal capital today.

I should have just parted ways with her without saying anything unnecessary.

Relying on vague memories, I headed to the street lined with stalls.

It was daytime, and the street was crowded. We might even get separated if we weren’t careful.

Although reluctant, I knew I’d be in trouble if the girl disappeared. Slowly, I reached out and firmly grasped her delicate hand.

“Ahh—!?”

The girl made a strange noise, surprised by the sudden contact.

I quickly offered an excuse.

“I’ll hold your hand so we don’t get separated… please bear with it.”

“I understand… I’m sorry for causing you trouble.”

“No, it’s fine…”

An indescribably sweet and sour air hung between us.

Even without turning around, I knew the maid was smirking. I could hear her laughing mischievously. Looks like I’ll have to punish her later.

“Well then, let’s go.”

“Y-Yes!”

We started walking, carefully so she wouldn’t trip.

Our destination was a grain shop. From what I could vaguely recall, there was something next to that store.

Without hesitation, I walked straight down the street. Despite getting jostled by the crowd, we didn’t lose each other thanks to our linked hands.

After a while, we arrived at our destination.

“Haah… haah… there should be something here…”

Exerting myself after being ill, I was extremely exhausted. The girl beside me was also breathing heavily.

“If I recall correctly, it was next to this shop… huh? What’s that? There is something shiny stuck between those bags…”

Glancing around, I spotted a glinting object wedged between some bags beside the shop.

I was curious, so I reached out and grabbed it.

“Is this… a locket pendant?”

Conveniently, it seemed to be the very item we were looking for.

The girl glanced over at my voice. The moment she saw it,

“That locket pendant!”

She rushed over, closely inspecting the pendant in my hand.

“Is this what you were looking for?”

“I’m not sure, but if I look inside…”

Prompted by her, I gently opened the pendant.

Inside the locket pendant was a small photograph. The woman in it looked really familiar. Could she be her mother she was talking about?

“This photo… there’s no doubt! It’s my mother…”

The girl started crying tears of joy.

Feeling awkward, I handed her the pendant. 

After receiving the pendant, she embraced it tightly with all her heart, never wanting to let it go again.

Seeing her like this, I suddenly remembered something.

It felt like I had seen this scene somewhere before.

And…. The answer quickly came from behind her.

“Your Highness Princess Lilia! I’ve been looking for you! So this is where you were…”
