I found myself lying in a bed without knowing any reason.

As I stared at an unfamiliar ceiling, my thoughts began to swirl.

The very first thing that matters is that I have to confirm whether I was in a place I recognized. If I had ended up in an unknown location, it would take time to return back home, and that would be troublesome.

I decided to ask the only maid left nearby.

“Um…”

“Yes?”

“Could you tell me the name of this area if you know it? I can’t remember anything…”

“The name of this area? This is the Royal Capital, Fairis… Wait, no way! Your overly polite speech… Marius-sama, do you not remember anything?!”

I just wanted to know the name of the place, but the maid I spoke to was utterly astonished.

Her beautiful face widened in shock, making her look somewhat scary.

Suddenly, the maid started shouting.

One by one, Maids began flocking into what I assumed was my room. Those who overheard our conversation reacted similarly to the first maid.

Shortly after, a remarkably beautiful couple dressed in luxurious clothing arrived. As soon as they saw my face, they burst into tears and hugged me.

“Oh, Marius! You’ve finally woken up! Thank goodness… The doctor said you might not make it, but you’re truly my son! You did well! Let’s execute that quack doctor.”

“We were so worried while you were bedridden! But it’s such a relief to see you looking healthy again. Is there anything you want? I’ll get you anything you desire.”

It was hard to react after being suddenly embraced by such beautiful people and it left me at a loss for words.

Their faces seemed oddly familiar. Could they be… acquaintances?

But the man clearly said that… I’m his son.

However, my father is not such a handsome man. He doesn’t look like a foreigner and is purely Japanese. And if the woman next to him is my mother, she is far more beautiful than my real mother. It’s impossible.

It would make more sense if someone told me this was a dream. Actually, could this be a dream? It feels absurdly real, but that must be it.

If it’s a dream, waking up should be easy. I can pinch my cheek to check if it hurts.

I reached up with my right hand and pinched my cheek.

“It… it hurts…”

It actually hurt. Unfortunately, I felt pain.

Seeing me acting weirdly, my parents cried out.

“Marius, what are you doing?! You just recovered from a fever, and now you’re pinching your cheek!”

“Don’t do that, Marius! Your beautiful, pearl-like skin will turn red! It would be a loss to the world!”

What the heck?! Why are they exaggerating so much?

A bit of redness on my cheek won’t affect the world. At most, my friends would laugh if they saw it. Though imagining it annoyed me.

“Your mother is right. For now, you should rest. Even though your fever has subsided, you’re still recovering. If anything were to happen to you, it would cause trouble for the Greylord Dukedom. If you understand then lie down and take rest, Marius.”

“Uh, okay…”

I laid down as instructed.

Once I did, I realized…

There is no such thing as aristocracy in Japan. A title like duke is simply out of the question.
