- The Reincarnated Eldest Witch Sister Embraces Self-Sacrifice
- Chapter 6.1: Flashback 1 - The Second Sister Istos's Admiration
Ever since I can remember, Ulgiar Onee-chan was always what you’d call an adult. She never cried out of frustration or played carelessly like other children. She always stood as our example, a sister whom I deeply revered.
I still vividly remember when our parents were killed, and we began living in the orphanage. We were grieving, but not in despair, because Onee-chan had survived. We believed she could overcome any difficulty; that faith was steadfast in us.
Looking back, I feel a sense of indebtedness for relying so heavily on Onee-chan. I started working early, but even that was possible because of her. She earned money and found me a mentor; without that, I wouldn’t be who I am today. If I had started as an adventurer without preparation, I would have been easily killed by monsters.
The mentor Onee-chan hired was Kirios, a middle-aged adventurer with black hair mixed with white and an unshaven beard. Despite his unimposing appearance, his skills and character were genuine.
On the first day of training, Kirios said to me, “Hey, girl. I’m going to teach you the ways of an adventurer and how to fight, but do you know how much your sister paid me?” I didn’t know; Onee-chan had dodged the question, not wanting to worry me about money. He revealed it was ten gold coins – a huge sum for a twelve-year-old. Onee-chan’s sacrifice was beyond my imagination.
He asked if I was prepared to live up to that value. I was determined to repay Onee-chan’s kindness, ready to do anything.
The first week of training focused on physical strength, with no magical enhancement. I remember panting through the exercises while Kirios remained unfazed. After a week, I finally started learning swordsmanship and combat techniques.
One day, two weeks later, I was taken to practical field training. The first day was simple, just defeating weak monsters in the forest. But the following days included dungeon explorations and facing powerful creatures, making me aware of my abilities and the gap between Kirios and me.
Looking back, that experience was incredibly valuable. It taught me to discern which battles to fight and which to avoid.
On the last day of training, I sparred with Kirios one last time. I never managed to beat him, but I felt I had done my best.
Kirios told me he’d always be available for advice and guidance. Our relationship continued even after the training ended. He became a mentor second only to Onee-chan.
Ten years have passed since then, and with Kirios aging, I became one of the strongest adventurers in Polis Commercial City. With immense magical power and the sword skills Kirios taught me, few can defeat me. The powerless girl I once was had grown strong and shrewd.
…Since the beginning, Ulgiar Onee-chan was always an adult, shouldering worries alone and solving problems by herself.
I love her from the bottom of my heart. So next time she faces an insurmountable challenge, I will be there to help her, no matter what.
