Episode 9: Something Special

And so, I ended up talking with Hoshimiya-san about a lot of things.

I’d thought I’d head home much sooner, but time passed faster than I expected…and before I knew it, it was already nearing evening.

It was while we were talking about her request, “Please marry my big sister!”

“…Oh! It looks like my sister just finished her student council duties. She just messaged me.”

Checking her phone, which looked like a child’s model, Hoshimiya-san suddenly stood up in a bit of a rush.

Despite being in high school, she still carried around a small backpack like an elementary school kid. She put it on, bowed politely, and addressed me.

“She’s waiting for me at the school gate, so I’d better get going. Thank you so much for today, Yohei-kun. Thanks to you, I feel like it wasn’t a boring day for once.”

And just like that, I ended up talking with Hoshimiya-san about a lot of things.

“…Ah! It looks like Onee-chan just got finished with her student council duties. She just messaged me.”

Checking her phone, which looked like a child’s model, she suddenly stood up in a bit of a rush.

Even though she is now in high school, she dutifully carried around a small backpack designed for an elementary school kid onto her back, put it on, and bowed politely, saying.

“It seems she’s waiting for at the school gate, so I’d better get going. Thank you so much for today, Yohei-kun. Thanks to you, I felt like I was able to spend time without getting bored in a while.”

“No, no, it was really my pleasure. I really enjoyed our conversation as well you know. It was fun”

…Well, we did talk about some pretty unusual, weird topics as well.

But despite all that, it no doubt that it was definitely fun. Spending time with Hoshimiya-san was something truly special for someone like me, who just leads an ordinary life. I think it’s something I’ll can feel proud of every time her name comes up in the future, saying, “Ah now that I recall, I once had a chat with Hoshimiya-san!”

On other hand, hearing my response, she, Hoshimiya-san clearly pleased by my words, smiled pleasantly.

“Ehehe. When you say you enjoyed it too, it makes me feel really happy as well…♪ Even though you decided to accompany someone as boring as me, moreover in my boredom, Yohei-kun is really very kind.”

…Boring?

I’d never thought of her and her interaction in that way, but maybe she actually perceives herself in that manner?

If that were the case, I want to deny with all my might, that what she was thinking is not at all true. However,

“Well then, I’ll be off already! I don’t want to keep Onee-chan waiting too long and make her worry… Yohei-kun, Bye-bye~.”

After waving one last time, Hoshimiya-san hurried out of the classroom.

I wanted to tell that she was far from someone boring to talk to, but…well, I’ll save it for the next chance I get.

Though I’m not too sure if there will even be a “next time” at all.

“Un. Bye…ba–i.”

I waved back as well, but by then she was already gone…and I was the only one left in the classroom.

…It’s so quiet.

Even when I am alone in the classroom, the sound doesn’t reverberates. Outside, I could still hear the music club’s instruments and the cheers from the sports clubs, which was about all there is.

I hadn’t even noticed those sounds till before…I guess that’s just how absorbed I was in my conversation with Hoshimiya-san.

“—It surely felt like a time in dreams.”

Getting to chat excitedly like that with the one and only Hoshimiya-Hime —really it felt like such an honor.

Maybe, —I was able to actually become ‘friends’ with that ‘Hoshimiya-san’? I almost hesitated to even consider it, after all, she’s person that special to begin with.

But she did say, “See you tomorrow.”

If possible, can I have conversation like this with her …. or at the very least, maybe greet each other daily. I guess I can try saying hello when I spot her in the classroom tomorrow morning.

…With that thought in mind, I got up from my seat.

Somehow, before I knew it, my fatigue from earlier had just disappeared, and my body felt incredibly light.

I think it’s been a while since I was able to enjoy a time this fun.

More than leveling up in a game, more than setting a new high score, even more than pulling a rare outfit for my favorite character—this moment made my heart fulfilled.

For someone like me, a Mob A character, talking with her was that kind of a special event.

Even if everything that happened today was just because of Hoshimiya-san’s whim, and she decides to ignore me starting tomorrow…I wouldn’t resent her for it. In fact, that would be the normal thing for a Mob A character like me to go through.

That’s why I wanted to savor this moment.
